24.01.2022 September is National Desexing Month! For the whole month of September we are offering 20% OFF ROUTINE desexing prices. Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world! Four out of five Australians have owned a pet at some time, and almost two-thirds of Australian households currently own pets. Despite these figures, around 23 cats and dogs die every hour of every day in pounds and shelters nationwide. Due to the ongoing problem of pet overpopulation, the...se healthy, loving animals are being put down because there are not enough homes available. Not only is pet overpopulation a serious problem but desexing also greatly reduces the likelihood of many serious cancers. Feel free to contact us on 6243 0083 for further information!

22.01.2022 Dogs Day Out!! The clinic is very excited to announce that Dogs Day Out will be happening on Sunday the 4th of October this year. We understand COVID19 has had a major impact on our society, however we would like to thank the community for following government guidelines, keeping infection cases to a minimum. There have been some adjustments mad...e to allow the event to take place whilst following safe practices as advised by the government. The event will be held between 11am 2pm at Simmons Park in Lindisfarne allowing more room for social distancing. The event will be split into two separate time sections to control crowed numbers (11am 12:30pm & 12:30pm 2pm). 16.01.2022 Sharing is NOT caring at Easter time. We have no doubt many of our clients were spoilt over the weekend with lots of chocolate goodies! Whilst chocolate is a yummy treat for us, it is important to remember that chocolate is toxic to dogs and other pets and ingestion often results in significant illness. Chocolate is toxic because it contains theobromine, a chemical similar to caffeine and used medicinally as a diuretic, heart stimulant, blood vessel dilator, and a smooth mus...cle relaxant. Theobromine can be poisonous and if eaten by our pets may result in severe clinical signs, especially if they do not receive early medical treatment. Clinical signs of chocolate poisoning depend on the amount and type of chocolate ingested. For many dogs, the most common signs (apart from the missing egg and the remains of foil wrapper) are vomiting and diarrhoea, increased thirst, panting or restlessness, excessive urination, a racing heart rate, muscle spasms (tremors), and occasionally seizures. In older pets that eat a large amount of high quality dark or baking chocolate, sudden death from cardiac arrest may occur, especially in dogs which already have heart disease. It is important to contact a vet clinic as soon as ingestion has occurred so we can provide advice on the medical treatment required. In the event on an emergency after hours, please contact AHVEC on 1300 302 912

16.01.2022 It’s that time of year again - AFL grand final fever! Whilst this year’s celebration will not be as big as years gone by due to Covid-19 restrictions, they are still set to go off with a bang! If you’re like us here at the clinic and are preparing for a big weekend of cheering on your footy team, please take a moment to include your furry friends in your preparations and remember that there are certain things about the day that can be very hazardous to dogs and cats! Things t...hat your dog or cat should avoid include: Barbecue food: sausages and other very fatty foods can cause severe and sometimes fatal pancreatitis. Barbecue skewers and chop bones/cooked bones: these are high risk for intestinal obstruction, especially skewers which can perforate the lining of the intestine and create a fatal abdominal infection. Beer and alcohol: alcohol is extremely toxic to the liver of animals severe symptoms can be seen even with small amounts. Raw meat, especially raw chicken: can lead to food poisoning and vomiting/diarrhoea/gastrointestinal upsets and should be avoided if not normally fed to your pet. If you suspect that your pet has eaten any of the above items, we recommend seeking immediate veterinary attention. It is also worth remembering that the loud noises associated with gatherings can be stressful for some animals, so ensure that your pet has a quiet, safe, secure place to hide and that there is no way for them to escape. With a few simple preparations, it is easy to ensure that your four-legged friends enjoy the day just as much as you do! Go Tigers!

06.01.2022 ATTENTION: Snake season already is here! Last week the clinic treated two snake bite patients from separate locations around greater Hobart. It is only September yet there have already been many sightings of snakes on the move this early in the season. The team at Lindisfarne Vet Clinic want your four legged friends to stay safe this summer and urge all owners to please keep a watchful eye out for snakes. It is crucial that you obtain immediate veterinary assistance if you b...elieve your pet has been bitten by a snake. Do not worry about going to your regular vet, simply get to the closest clinic ASAP! Calling the clinic to let them know you are on your way can help them set up equipment needed for your arrival. Some common symptoms that can occur in cats and dogs include: - Sudden weakness followed by collapse - Dilated pupils non responsive to light - Shaking or twitching of the muscles - Vomiting - Blood in the urine - Paralysis (may occur in the later stages) If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake try your best to limit their movement, transfer them to your car by picking them up and get to your nearest vet clinic as soon as possible! The sooner treatment is administered to your pet, the better chances of survival. Please share and tag your friends and family to help spread the word. Please remember: snakes are a protected species in Tasmania and should not be harmed. If you are concerned about the location of a snake then please contact Reptile Rescue on 0499 116 690
