24.01.2022 We might not be seeing much of each other at the moment but we would love to stay in touch with you all. Keep an eye on our page for some club history and a bit of fun! We thought we would kick things off with these two images: Lindisfarne Bay, 1955 - "The second ever race at LSC". These are the earliest photos we have of the club, that we are aware of. We would love you to share your earliest club photos/memories with us in the comments! *We are still compiling our club history and would love your submissions! You can message us if you have anything you wish to share for inclusion.

23.01.2022 What a wonderful day we had yesterday! It was a top job by the race committee to swing the course for a 180-degree wind change resulting in two excellent courses at approximately 40 minutes each. We enjoyed good sailing conditions with 23 boats on the water. Sailing was very close and exciting throughout the fleet, with many position changes. Overall the atmosphere at LSC was bright and bubbly, with a BBQ after racing. It is very encouraging to see new and younger faces abou...t - welcome to our newest member who joins us from Wynyard Yacht Club. Thank you to all our volunteers! Next week we sail back to back pennant races, and don't forget our Learn to Sail programs start in two weeks! John Mills

20.01.2022 WELCOME 2020 L2H ENTRANT - QUEST The return of the Nelson Marek 43 boat Quest to Tasmanian waters has provided a fantastic opportunity for a group of great mate...s and family members to form a tight knit crew of 11 for this years L2H Yacht Race. The new Quest syndicate of John Mills, Vaughan Lynch, John Lawrie, Jay Nibbs and brothers Adam and Nathan Mills have been sailing together and against each other for many years. Through their partnership with the Lindisfarne Sailing Club the group are keenly building the reputation of the club in mentoring younger sailors and developing our future keel boat sailors. A majority of the crew have a background in dinghy sailing from the club and collectively have a wealth of experience for this years L2H campaign. The syndicate partnership arrangements for John Mills, Commodore of Lindisfarne Sailing Club, have provided him with the unique opportunity of sailing with his sons and a diverse group of sailing friends. 20.01.2022 Opening Day 20/21 - Sunday 27th September 2020. We were thrilled to get back to the club and see all our sailors, families and friends back after the extended time away this year. It was also lovely to see the locals join us to watch the sail past in Lindisfarne Bay. Life Member Dugald McDougall took the sail past solute and honoured us by cutting the celebratory cake. There was a fabulous spirit in the air! Racing was close in both afternoon races, we saw some excellent racing with 26 boats on the water and we can expect a few more to return this weekend also!

14.01.2022 Announcing the 2020-2021 Travellers Trophy!

14.01.2022 BYC RULES NIGHT 5TH OCT!!!!! Hopefully, you’ll never have to meet these guys in the room. Murray Jones is an International Judge and Jonathon Rees is a Nation...al Judge. They know the rules back to front and have offered to run a rules seminar at BYC on Monday 5 Oct in the marina bar starting at 1900 hrs. It's obvious we need to know the rules, but there are some situations where your rights change. This is when the trouble begins. We’ve picked a few days before summer sailing begins so it will be great to have a refresher. Murray and Jonathon run a very interactive session and there’s no such thing as a dumb question. Also, there are some rules which will change next year. Murray and Jonathon will update you on these. Why not pop in and get some advice from the highest level of accreditation we have in the country. Meals are available from 1800 hrs and it’s a great opportunity to bring a few of your crew. Where: Bellerive Yacht Club When: Monday 5 Oct @ 1900 Cost: It’s FREE and everyone is welcome See you there. Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania Derwent Sailing Squadron Inc

05.01.2022 Opening Day 20/21

03.01.2022 A Quest for young sailors! Lindisfarne Sailing Cub is best known as a family-based dinghy club, but in a week’s time some of its prominent members will head up ...an ambitious keelboat racing campaign with the successful ocean racing yacht Quest. We bought Quest, a Nelson Marek 43, specifically to give young dinghy sailors an opportunity to sail in a big boat.to give them a future adventure in yacht racing, syndicate member John Lawrie, Past Commodore of Lindisfarne Sailing Club, said yesterday. Quest, which is also racing under the burgee of Bellerive Yacht Club, has had a long and successful racing record in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, including placing second in the 1995 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race when owned by Bob Steel. Our racing campaign with Quest, delayed due to the virus restrictions, starts next Sunday, 19 July, with the first race of the Combined Clubs Winter Series 2020, Lawrie explained. With 42 entries so far received, the quality of competition will be exciting and rewarding for our crew of young sailors, added Lawrie. Later in the view we plan to contest the Launceston to Hobart race as a lead-up to the 2021 Sydney Hobart, he added. In addition to Lindisfarne past Commodore John Lawrie, members of the Quest syndicate include present Commodore John Mills (also a past Commodore of Bellerive Yacht Club), Mills’ two sons Nathan and Adam Mills, Jay Nibbs and Vaughan Lynch. Nathan Mills, a 29er champion, will helm Quest in the Winter Series. They bought Quest at Mooloolooba late last year, but the yacht did not reach Hobart until March this year, just before the convid-19 restrictions stopped yacht racing on the Derwent. Quest was built by noted USA boat-builders Carrol Marine in the early 1990s and originally raced in Victoria, later being bought by Sydney yachtsman Bob Steel who sailed her to a podium place in the 1995 Sydney Hobart, Lawrie said, outlining the boat’s history. She also represented Australia at the Kenwood Cup and in recent years has been owned at Mooloolaba as Industrial Quest. The boat is in excellent order and we had the rig checked in Sydney on the way south. Due to delays Quest did not reach the Derwent until a week before Bellerive Yacht Club’s IOR Cup in March..and then that event was cancelled. Lawrie said the syndicate planned to race in as many races and regattas as possible to give an opportunity for young sailors to experience and enjoy keelboat racing at a higher level. Our original plan was to enter Quest for this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart but lack of race time has put that on hold to next year. Instead, we plan to contest this year’s Launceston to Hobart. We already have an experienced racing crew for the Combined Clubs Winter Series, with Nathan Mills, a 29er champion skipper, on the helm, his dinghy crewman Jay Nibbs as bowman and Vaughan Lynch on main, John Lawrie added. Lindisfarne Sailing Club was formed in 1955 and Lawrie believes Quest is probably only one of only a couple of racing yachts to have been on the club register. The club currently provides racing for Sabres, Herons and Firebug dinghies, with Past Commodore Lawrie a keen competitor in Sabres, a single-handed adult dinghy. He also owns a 505 dinghy. John Mills, a long-time member of Bellerive Yacht Club, previously owned Next Edge, the Lyons 40. As of Friday, 10th July, 42 yachts had been entered for what will be the inaugural Combined Clubs Winter Series with the latest nominations including Greg Prescott’s modified Farr 40, 2 Unlimited, and Ed Psaltis’s modified Sydney 36, Midnight Rambler. Entries officially close next Thursday 16 July at 12 noon with a fleet of between 40 and 50 boats expected.
