18.01.2022 In his latest and forthcoming exhibition Perth artist Lindsay Pow is revisiting scenes from the Karri Forests of the South- West. Thirty-five years ago Lindsay lived in Pemberton where he painted numerous other works showing the contrast between the deep shade and the whiteness of the Karri bark. The new works are more vibrant where Pow is, - trying to capture the coolness of the forest and the afternoon light. Lindsay often completes the oil on canvas paintings within one ...or two sessions and many have been impressed with the feat, watching as he has painted canvases during his previous exhibitions at the Moore’s building art gallery on Henry St in Fremantle. After seeing the Van Gogh exhibition in Melbourne July 2017, and hearing of Vincent painting seventy paintings in seventy days, Lindsay was inspired to increase the spontaneity in his pictures. Lindsay’s home-studio is located in a suburban backyard filled with large eucalypts, although none as tall as the mighty Karri’s of the Boranup forest near the Leeuwin Coast where Lindsay has often traveled. Lindsay draws the chosen scene first with contrasting tones and then builds up the colour when the form of the picture is established. He works both from photos and his imagination and is trying to recreate the way the light catches on the trees in the late afternoon. Lindsay’s works can be seen and purchased at the Moore’s Building Art Gallery from the 16th of February to the 5th of March. Lindsay himself will also be there where you can see him painting live and bringing the forest to life.
