23.01.2022 Ill be honest - I hate FAQs on websites! As this article says, theyre too wordy, too specific and hard to search. Theres almost always a better way to present the information for the reader.

23.01.2022 Do you assume your audience will read all your text word for word to get your message? We take our meaning from a combination of cues, including visual layout and words that jump out here and there. Clever? Misleading? Certainly in this case the audience wasnt impressed.

19.01.2022 Ive worked with lots of people who were trained to write in the traditional academic scientific writing style. No-one chooses to write in a way thats dry or difficult to understand, but its hard to undo your training. Writing with clarity and creativity takes practice, time and effort.

15.01.2022 The Australian Government's Department of Human Services is testing a beta version of their new website. They've copped a lot of flak for recent failed customer service efforts, but to their credit they've worked with plain English experts on this project, and they are asking for user feedback. Have a look - do you find it easier to read and use? Tell them what you think!

15.01.2022 When being correct gets in the way of readability, and distracts everyone from what matters. (BTW in Australian usage you can ditch both the commas and the full stop so the problem disappears!)
