24.01.2022 Some useful tips

23.01.2022 Before the sun sets on 2020 we wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all our valued clients and associates. We have been continually blown away by the strength, resilience, adaptability and vulnerability that each of you has shown throughout this year. This global pandemic has thrown us all some unprecedented curve balls that have significantly impacted our collective way of life which has challenged our individual thoughts, feelings and the way we connect with one-anot...her. At Lineage Group we were able to quickly adapt to the ever changing circumstances to continue supporting our valued clients and associates. We engaged virtual platforms to continue to collaborate and connect with business’, delivering much needed psychoeducational and counselling support that maintained ‘the hum’ of the BAU. We were intent on ensuring that individuals and teams were able to navigate through the even the hardest of days. Now we have nothing but gratitude and appreciation for those owners, managers and leaders who stepped up to ask for support not only for themselves but their teams as well. We believe this has created a firm ground to grow and build a more productive and dynamic organisation. We have learnt so much over the course of 2020 and we are now working on something which we can’t wait to share with you in the new year! But before all that we are looking forward to taking a much needed break away from the home office and far far away from home learning! We wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday break. From the team at Lineage Group x Please Note: We will be closing on Thursday 24th December at 12pm and reopening the 6th January. If you require urgent Mental Health support during this time please call LifeLine on 13 13 14.

23.01.2022 Whatever you’re fearful of and whatever you’re worried about just remember it’s all real to you. Don’t compare your story against someone else’s. Embrace (and don’t judge) your reaction to what it is that you are facing and what is hard for you. Find ways that will help minimise the impact of these worries and fears and help you to keep moving. ... If you need support - seek it out and ask for it. People like being asked for help. You will not be a burden. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #ruokday2020 https://www.facebook.com/FunniestFamilyMoments/videos/2401727766803393/?vh=e&extid=jG8T4M1QySQKg3pH

22.01.2022 "It's time to cheer on girls and women who want to sit at the table" Sheryl Sandberg In her book 'Lean In' Sheryl Sandberg encourages women to lean into their careers by seizing opportunities and taking risks. She acknowledges the power of support and the value of our network. We are hoping that by offering this space to acknowledge the hard work that women do to own and run a business (albeit during a pandemic) we can shine a spotlight on the great work they do. ... Tag away.... Also a side note - I'm now reading 'Option B' her latest book. A great read for anyone looking to further develop skills of resilience, gratitude, empathy and compassion

21.01.2022 How will you maintain a healthy balance between home and work - post pandemic? The countdown to return to school has commenced and with that comes the thoughts of how we will fill our days post pandemic. In another life we would be rushing from work to school pick up to the drop off at hockey and footy training. ... These days our lives are much slower and so much more productive and meaningful. So we’ve begun to think about how to integrate all the things we’ve loved to do during #iso with what our next chapter looks like. Not quite sure what this will look like yet ... all ideas welcomed Happy Friday #lineagegroup #lineagesolutions #iso #covid_19 #williamstown #recruitment #business #wellness #mentalhealth

21.01.2022 Does your business have a COVID-normal plan? Truth is we have no idea how long this virus will hang around for. The reality is that this pandemic has changed our collective response to how viral infections can be managed in the workplace. This change echos the global response way back in 1918 to the Spanish Flu that saw the formation of socialised healthcare systems and the beginning of epidemiology to find patterns and cause and effects in healthcare. ... So Spending time creating your COVID-normal plan is another way to future proof your business. Here’s a link to the Victorian Government COVID-Safe plan to guide you through what’s required in keeping your team safe and what to do if there’s an outbreak https://www.business.vic.gov.au//1937704/COVIDSafe-Plan.pdf #covidnormal #covidsafe #smallbusiness #recruitment #leadership #workplacesafetyandhealth #lineagegroup #mentalhealth

20.01.2022 This past week we have had the privilege of supporting the bushfire affected Gippsland residents in Metung, Lakes Entrance, Orbost, Newmerella and Marlo. These picturesque towns are built on the backbone of small businesses. And they are hurting. So ... now there are no excuses not rest and recharge either by the sea or gazing into the hills. ... Premier Daniel Andrews has promised $465 million in this year's budget, to encourage more visitors to regional Victoria as part of the Victorian Tourism Recovery Package. How it works: Victorian’s who have booked and spent at least $400 dollars on accommodation or tickets to attractions and tours can apply for a $200 voucher for spending money. 120,000 vouchers will be made available from December. What are you waiting for... support these small businesses and help them heal #visitgippsland #lakesentrance #orbost #metung #newmerella #marlo #supportsmallbusiness #smallbusiness

17.01.2022 Thousands of Australians are getting ready to switch back into ‘work-mode’ from ‘holiday-mode’ as we turn the page on 2020 and gear up for 2021. If you are starting to experience changes in the way you are thinking or behaving in the lead up to returning to work, there are some things you can do to lessen the impact of these sometimes overwhelming feelings. Research shows us that individuals are more likely to experience higher levels of stress-related effects such as feeling... ‘knots’ in the stomach, unusual emotional outbursts and ruminating negative thoughts when they feel they have no control within their situation. James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, suggests that creating a morning rhythm that is obvious, attractive, easy and satisfying is more likely to set you up for a day in which you are able to reach goals and feel a sense of accomplishment. His work draws from evidence based human behaviour research that has found that habit formation is simply about small changes. When these are intentionally put into action (i.e. morning routine) they become a vote for the type of person you wish to become. In September 2020 a large percentage of our clients that included owners of small businesses and employees, who were all working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic reported they were working longer than normal hours without a demarcation between their work and personal lives. Creating a morning and evening routine that replaced the time that their previous commute to and from their office spent was found to be highly effective in lessening impacts of stress and increasing more positive and optimistic thoughts. Habits, routines, rhythms don't have to be big to be effective. The most important part of any new habit is getting started not just the first time but every time. James Clear So .. it can be as simple as this Get up. Tie your hair. Grab a coffee. Clear your desk, And just START For more click the link https://www.lineagegroup.co//return-to-work-getting-starte

16.01.2022 I can’t breathe. These were George Floyd’s last words, as his neck was stood on in a Minneapolis gutter. The exact same words were spoken by David Dungay from... the floor of a Long Bay jail cell in 2015. Multiple officers restrained him, compressing him down. He had breached prison regulations by eating biscuits in his cell, and he died shortly afterwards. He was 26 years old. We’ve had over twenty years of Reconciliation. Our leaders speak out, our academics map pathways to change. Every time we lose one of our own, our people march in the streets. Our writers, filmmakers, painters, musicians, they tell our stories. They are the most productive, the most creative artists in the country. And yet somehow, they still don’t see us. They don’t know the names Kumanjayi Walker. Tanya Day. Ms Dhu. They turn the page on the injustice, and a blind eye to the statistics, because it doesn’t happen here. Around the country Aboriginal people are now organising protests in solidarity with those across the United States, precisely because we do understand their pain and anger. Maori activists in Aotearoa, and native peoples in the United States and Canada are doing the same. The aim of us all is to expose, and to have understood, the structural racism that underpins these events. To see that these minor incidents escalate into death sentences because racism causes those of us with the power of life and death, to miscalculate, and to overreact. It makes us hood and shackle a child in Don Dale, or to trip, and slam the head of a sixteen-year-old into the concrete in Redfern. Most of all, it leaves those of us with goodwill looking for a pathway out. Looking to a future where we can co-exist as equals, having settled the injustice of the past and the prejudice of the present. We have turned to examine these issues before. The Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody was handed down in 1991. Since then 432 of us have died. That is a rate of more than one per month. Aboriginal Australians know these statistics. We understand the history that brought us here. What shocks us is when our fellow Australians don’t know and don’t understand. In the United States, those in solidarity with the Black Lives Movement are now taking a knee, and publicly replicating the iconic protest of American footballer Colin Kaepernick. We now call on our fellow Victorians to stand in solidarity with us, and take a knee. Because it does happen here. We call on the Victorian Government, that will soon sit opposite us across the Treaty negotiation table, to take a knee, and to make clear that the names of our lost ones are not forgotten. ------ Aunty Geraldine Atkinson is a proud Bangerang/Wiradjuri woman. 14.01.2022 The Federal Budget announced yesterday that it acknowledged the struggles that most small to medium business owners are going through at the moment. The Budget has promised $4.6million to support SME’s mental health. Beyond Blues’ New Access program will deliver this support for business owners who can access up to 6 telehealth sessions with a coach. ... Our understanding is that these coaches do not have specific mental health qualifications. The coaches engaged in the program come with business experience and industry knowledge and are able to suggest practical tools to manage whatever obstacles are being faced. It is expected that this program will roll out next year. If you or someone you know could benefit from this support check out Beyond Blues’ webpage https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/newaccess #lineagegroup #business #smallbusiness #beyondblue #workplacewellness #workplacementalhealth #covid_19 #selfcare

10.01.2022 Today was sh*t for any small business in Victoria who began the day with the closed sign facing out. We didn't want to write another post on how to weather this storm well - instead we wanted to crawl in under the canopy and sit with those who are hurting. Today was hard.... Research tells us that to weather the storm well, one must think positively, be grateful and practise mindfulness. But some days this is just too hard. Restrictions in Victoria have been extended for by 2 weeks which means for some they feel they’ve drifted further from the shore. Owning and running a small business is tough. No set working hours, no overtime, no weekends. This pandemic is breaking and defeating the spirit of even the most mentally strong small business owners. You've come so far.. you will get through this ! #supportsmallbusiness #smallbusinessowner #smallbusinesssupport #mentalhealthsupport #supportingcommunities https://www.lineagegroup.co//for-victorian-small-businesse

06.01.2022 For many this has been a really tough year for reasons that are unique to each individual. So quickly we can be absorbed in our thoughts of what we have lost (employment, freedom, connections). We have come so far. It’s not over yet but it will be one day.... 06.01.2022 A recent research study by Monash University in partnership with several countries (Austria, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Italy, Canada and Spain), sought to identify how teachers responded to the challenges to inclusive education posed by COVID-19. The study identified 5 crucial elements that organisations and SME's can use to cultivate conditions where professional knowledge and skills are enhanced, where effective leadership exists, at all levels, and where the entire business is working interdependently in the collective pursuit of better outcomes. https://www.lineagegroup.co//leading-through-covid-and-bey

03.01.2022 Business and career focused group sessions build connection, collaboration and support. We know from our evolutionary origins that humans need to be part of a group and feel like they belong, in order to thrive. This insidious pandemic has isolated us from our tribe and even those of us who prefer their own company are seeking connection. Individually we are all experiencing the effects of COVID and collectively we are all experiencing the ‘COVID-Effect’... Research tells us that group support reduces the sense of isolation and feelings of helplessness and stress which can lead to depression and anxiety. The collaborative style of group support has been shown to improve motivation and morale, and foster a positive and optimistic outlook. And it is also a cost effective therapy session! Lineage Group facilitate a diverse range of small groups for likeminded individuals who are all sharing a similar experience. These include groups for those who are traversing the employment gap, small business owners and career development candidates. 02.01.2022 Victoria.. we're all in this together. We've got this If you’re like us and are wondering how on earth have we reached stage 4 restrictions ... this may help.... Simple answer : ‘Cognitive Dissonance’ Cognitive Dissonance is a term used in psychology which (simply put) allows us to justify our behaviour that is inconsistent with what we know to be true. The role that Cognitive Dissonance is playing throughout the pandemic is important to note. It reminds us to always pay attention to the story we tell ourselves and to challenge this story ...even if it’s uncomfortable. https://www.theatlantic.com//role-cognitive-disson/614074/
