25.01.2022 LinkedIn Local Rockhampton manager Kieran Moran will be featured on SmartHub Rockhampton's Facebook HubLive program this Thursday where he'll not only talk about how LinkedIn Local Rockhampton has become one of the largest business networking events in the region but why LinkedIn has become the most popular B2B social platform and how to use it by building a strong network of connections to assist in building your business. LinkedIn Local Rockhampton is a networking event wit...h a difference where like minded people get together and connect with each other in a 'no pitch' environment. 2020 was a difficult year where the event went to ZOOM for 6 months but we came back with our face to face events in September. The last 2020 event was in November with the next LinkedIn Local Rockhampton on February 11, 2020. Hope to see you there next year and tune in to SmartHub Rockhampton's Facebook HubLive program this Thursday at 1pm. See more

24.01.2022 The key to good business is to support those that support you which begins at home with locals - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. November 12 free to attend: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/linkedin-local-rockhampton- ..................................................... Capricorn Coast business owners are working overtime to build a last minute case for the Great Keppel Island resort redevelopment. With the current sale agreement to Altum Property Group ending in October, well-k...nown local operators met with Livingstone Shire Council to voice their support for Altum’s proposal to spend the $30m state government commitment on long-term infrastructure. The group’s Open Letter to Tourism and State Development Minister Kate Jones said taxpayer funds should not be spent on works which would provide a ‘makeover’ to the island, but rather strategic assets which will enable the island re-development to go ahead and deliver desperately needed accommodation on the island. Altum director Rob McCready said over the past 12 months the company had met regularly with business owners on and off the island, as well as key community leaders, to find out what the stakeholders in the region actually want. Everyone wants to see more accommodation on the island, access to be improved for locals and tourists and for the island to be cleaned up and equipped with appropriate services, he said. 22.01.2022 Risk is essential. There is not growth of inspiration in staying within what is safe and comfortable. Once you find out what you do best, why not try something else - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. ......................................................... MOST days when you drive past the Dean St Bakery, you will find a line-up outside. To tackle this issue, owners Sam and Crystelle Hayman have begun an expansion.... They have leased next door through Brian Gearney at Mr Real Estate and are in the midst of putting some doors in the middle, to create a shop on one side and a production space on the other. The popular bakery was opened in 1984 by Sam’s parents, Nigel and Kay Hayman. Prior to Dean St, his parents had Mount Morgan Bakery from 1977. Sam had been working in the power station industry for 15 years and Crystelle had her own hairdressing salon but the pair quit their jobs to take over the bakery in July 2018. They have been building up the business since then and are now taking their biggest leap and expanding. We still have a lot of the same recipes and the way everyone likes it, Sam said. 21.01.2022 Consumption is the sole end and purpose of all production; and the interest of the producer ought to be attended to, only so far as it may be necessary for promoting that of the consumer - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. ................................................... Following on from a difficult season, the future is golden for Tropical Pines. Over the next few weeks, the Yeppoon-based business will supply 230,000 Pure Gold pineapples per week due to other producers struggl...ing with the volume of fruit. General manager Paul Lange said much of the demand was due to short term changes in consumer buying patterns due to Covid-19. A large amount of pineapples will hit the major supermarkets over the next couple of weeks, he said. In the past you would have seen a lot of fruit, particularly pineapples being consumed via the hospitality industry, on cruise ships and in airlines, but that’s all dried up due to Covid, especially in Victoria with their significant lockdown continuing. People are really reliant upon the major supermarkets and the independent supermarkets for the bulk of their eating requirements at present so that fits perfectly into our market as a significant supplier of fresh pineapples to Coles, Woolworths and the independent supermarket sector. 21.01.2022 It is not the strongest businesses that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. November 12: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/linkedin-local-rockhampton- .................................... HEADING to an event and just need your hair styled? A new Capricorn Coast business has you sorted.... A Yeppoon hairdressers is now under new ownership and it’s not just your average salon. The Fringe Hair Room has been rebranded to Blo Hair Bar. Now owned by Nic Condon, the Arthur St business offers blowouts and hair styling. The business is aimed at servicing clients who are going out for an event, date night or celebration and just need their hair styled. The salon doesn’t offer haircuts or colours, just styling. It’s a concept that has been popular with clients down south. I thought why not do it here? Nic said. Nic owns Express Hair Salon in Yeppoon’s main street and was approached by Fringe’s owner to buy the salon. It made Nic think about what kind of twist she could put on it. I knew I didn’t want to open up a salon that was just the same, I knew I couldn’t just open another one, she said. I wanted to make sure it was a point of difference. Connect for full story.

16.01.2022 Despite real estate speculation, good or bad, the current growth in the region creates opportunity. Now is the time to either expand your services and/or create a business that can service the new population growth - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. ......................................................... A STAMPEDE of southern buyers fleeing the capital cities and the coronavirus pandemic is driving a new boom in the Rockhampton region’s real estate sales market. In recent mont...hs, Rockhampton’s Mr Real Estate owner and principal Jason Rayner said they were selling a house a day but sales were now accelerating towards an average of two per day. A 20-year veteran in the industry, Mr Rayner was greatly encouraged by the surge in sales activity, which he attributed to increased employment, an extremely tight rental market, and impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe that this is probably the best that I’ve seen it since 2013, based not only on the number of homes that are settling each month and also the (sale) price is starting to show signs of confidence, Mr Rayner said. I keep in touch with valuers, banks, and with solicitors and they’re seeing numbers that have been the best they’ve seen for over 13 years. Connect for full story.
14.01.2022 An organization, no matter how well designed, is only as good as the people who live and work in it - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. ................................................................. AFTER ONLY rebranding to Priceline Pharmacy three years ago, the Stockland Rockhampton Upper store has been awarded the highest honour across the company store of the year. Up against 470 stores across Australia, it won Queensland Store of the Year, which granted it eligibility to ...the next round. The store was up against six finalists for the Store of the Year and to store co-owner Dan Carptener’s surprise it won. The award ceremony was originally planned to be held in Singapore but was held virtually instead so the team joined with the Parkhurst staff to watch it. It was great to have the team there which wouldn’t have happened if it was in Singapore, Mr Carpenter said. It was a really proud moment, something I didn’t think we would achieve in such a short period of time. Connect for full story.

13.01.2022 If you're not reaching back to help anyone then you're not building a legacy - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. November 12 free to attend: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/linkedin-local-rockhampton- ............................... Although they weren't born and raised in Central Queensland, Liz Taylor (nee Pilbury) and her sisters certainly made their mark on the social landscape. Mary had the service station at Lammermoor, Lou built the supermarket at Cooee Bay - which Pam ran ...- and Desley continues to provide community solutions and volunteer on a range of projects. Liz recently returned to coast, where she and her late husband Hugh opened their first restaurant in the 1970s, to launch her first cookbook. The couple were newly married when they landed jobs on Great Keppel Island when it was owned by TAA airlines; Hugh was second chef and Liz worked in the office. "We were friends with the people who delivered our fruit from the mainland and, one day, they told us there was a little shop for sale," Ms Taylor said. "We opened Reef and Beef where Subway is now, and after a year in the caravan park, we moved into a unit above the restaurant." Ms Taylor said Yeppoon was little more than a country town at the time, where everybody would know your name. Connect for full story.
12.01.2022 Much like starting your own business, the art of music is about the creation of something that drives you to be inspired by what you love - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. November 12 free to attend: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/linkedin-local-rockhampton- .......................................................... ROCKY music icon Jeremy Marou has a new business venture as co-owner of The Goat Bar and Café. He and friend Jamie Boon have bought shares in the business and tog...ether they have big plans to make it the next Tivoli, similar to the popular music venue in Brisbane. The pair have been friends for years after originally meeting at a corporate golf day. The opportunity to acquire shares in The Goat came up as one of the owners decided to move on and, after a year of talking about it, the timing worked out. The business is now owned by four equal partners. It’s still a bit surreal for Jeremy who laughed that if you had asked him five years ago if he would own a pub, he would have said ‘not a chance’. It’s every man’s dream to have their own pub, he said. It is pretty exciting. Just to say I have a little spot I can call mine, sitting right in the heartland of town, bring my live music in, pour a beer from time to time... it’s really special. We have some directions to take the place. Connect for full story.
11.01.2022 Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true and don't let your dreams be dreams - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. .................................................. AT JUST 24 years old, real estate agent Riley Neaton has joined David Bell as co-owner of Ray White Rockhampton. For the past three years, Mr Neaton has been making a name for himself in the industry.... He recently took home four prestigious awards at the Ray White Annual Awards, including No. 4 Queensland Salesperson, Alan White Elite Performer, Clients’ Choice Award and Queensland Rising Star Award. He is now joint principal of Ray White Rockhampton, alongside Mr Bell. He said owning his own real estate business had been a goal of his since his first day as a sales agent. I have always aspired to go into that position and work alongside David, he said. It really is a dream come true, but it took a lot of hard work and a lot of time to get to where I am. I am inspired by what David has accomplished with the office and how he has taken it to the high standard it sits at today. Hopefully, I can excel in the same way and continue to nurture and grow this market leading business. He has age and wisdom behind him as well as a lot of experience in the industry, while I bring the fire and energy, so I think we complement each other well. Connect for full story.
11.01.2022 What drives me is the prospect of turning an obstacle into a business opportunity, and then growing that into something lasting and rewarding - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. .................................... MOUNT Archer visitors could soon be able to purchase food and drink as council has called for expressions of interest (EOI) for Fraser Park. The EOI was for a commercial opportunities at Fraser Park at the Mount Archer summit.... The EOI called for applicants to propose a range of different ideas to use this space for food and beverage services in the unique location. The last coffee shop closed in 2011 and since then, tenders for the use of the site were called in 2011, 2014 and 2017 but the site was not able to be leased. It was understood there were enquiries previously but nothing formal was received. The redevelopment of Fraser Park has resulted in upgrades and new infrastructure including the nature play area, boardwalks, amphitheatre and new amenities. As the redevelopment nears completion, it is anticipated a cafe or commercial business may now be more attractive in the marketplace. The EOI would be active for 21 days with a shortlist of tenderers to be prepared that will then be invited to provide written tenders. Connect for full story.
10.01.2022 To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. I believe being named on this list highlights the importance of research on data analytics in areas such as the detection of money laundering. Mr Best’s project was developed in collaboration with CQUni’s Accounting Data Analytics senior lecturer Dr Kishore Singh, and was published in the International Journal of Accounting Information Systems. 10.01.2022 Sometimes the greatest thing to come out of all your hard work isn't what you get for it, but what you become for it -LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. November 12: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/linkedin-local-rockhampton- ..................................... MORE than 26 years ago, Emerald hairdresser Jodi Pike opened the doors to her salon Jodi’s Salon. Ms Pike, a qualified hairdresser, started with just herself and a second-year apprentice.... Over the years she has employed 121 apprentices and currently has 19 employees, including 11 apprentices completing a Certificate III in Hairdressing. Jodi’s Salon was the regional winner of the Small Employer of the Year category at this year’s Queensland Training Awards. Ms Pike said a business was not a business without the team. I am very proud of my team the win is still sinking in, she said. She said it was hard getting hairdressers in rural areas. We would train apprentices, but a majority were female and when they had children they didn’t always come back to hairdressing, she said. It’s not like someone would train, become a tradesperson and then stay in that trade fulltime. So, I decided early on to continue to train apprentices. Connect for full story.
10.01.2022 Prospecting for gold is much like business where the most valuable part of the prospecting process is your own time - LinkedIn Local Rockhampton. November 12 free to attend: ............................................................ QUEENSLANDERS wanting to enjoy low budget, family-friendly activities closer to home are contributing to a spike in demand for prospecting and fossicking. That’s according to Clermont business owner Frieda Berry-Porter, who has called on Burdek...in state election candidates to commit to increasing public prospecting areas. She believes this should include in state forest and council reserves. Mrs Berry-Porter, owner of The Outback Prospector, makes a living selling metal detectors and accessories for recreational prospecting out in the Clermont goldfields. She said the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic had contributed to an increase in interest for prospecting and fossicking. We see people from a wide range of postcodes and occupations being drawn to the simpler life, what might be called ‘virus refugees’, to reconnect with the bush and chase a bit of gold out in the regions, particularly with the recent record gold prices, Mrs Berry-Porter said. MONEY for a 1000-seat Keppel Bay Sailing Club Convention and Sporting Hub was today laid down by State LNP Deputy Leader Tim Mander and Keppel candidate Adrian de Groot, but Brittany Lauga,... the Keppel seat’s current occupant, doubted the opposition party’s accounting. He said if the LNP was elected, work would begin next year and take about 12 months to complete. Last time I was here, we had the Keppel Bay Sailing Club showed me their plans, their vision, for the future, he said. I have to say that I was incredibly impressed by it. EMU PARK beach goers now have the ease of grabbing a barista-made coffee on the beachfront after a new coffee and drink shop opened.
