24.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. That's the theme of this year's NAIDOC week - an important time for recognition and celebration of our State and country's rich cultural history. First Nations people have occupied and cared for Australia for over 65,000 years, and that history can teach us so much about our beautiful, unique country.

21.01.2022 Our staff at LTC are committed to keep our community and staff safe and healthy. Here are some helpful tips to reduce the spread of COVID-19: wash your hands with soap or sanitizer, often if you are sick stay home cover your cough, sneeze into a tissue or wear a face mask ... stay 1.5m away from others Be smart, be safe and be kind. These are tough times for everyone.
19.01.2022 #COVID19 Frequently asked questions Q: Can I visit my family/friends over the Easter break? A: In most cases, no. Public Health Orders have been introduced tha...t set out rules regarding staying at home and not gathering in groups of more than two people in public. The Orders state that anyone leaving their place of residence needs a reasonable excuse for doing so. Visiting family/friends over the Easter break to socialise is NOT a reasonable excuse. While we understand that Easter is traditionally a time spent with extended family and friends, these are unprecedented times. Unless you are providing care for a family member in another residence, stay at home. Try connecting with friends and family through other means such as over the phone or webcam.

06.01.2022 MEET THE TEAM! Introducing Isabel Williams. Isabel is our Community Officer/Tutor at the Centre and has been a part of the family for three years. She is full of knowledge and passion for teaching others. She makes learning so easy you don't even feel like you're being tutored. Here is what she has to say:... "I consider myself an aunty to all. I am very well known to everyone in the wider community. I like the thought of being a positive role model and an approachable person to all who seek me out for advice and knowledge about their family tree. My favorite hobbies are: bushwalking, gardening, ancestral history and caring for the environment/all creatures great and small. My primary role at the Linking Together Centre is to tutor suspended kids and support them in their learning until they return to class. After teaching for many years as a teacher in a classroom, working here as a tutor keeps me in touch with what I like doing and keeps my mind healthy. I find it very rewarding especially supporting young students who face challenges in their school environment and to help them make better choices for themselves." Next time you pop by the centre, be sure to say hello to Isabel.

She has been part of the family for three years. Here is what she has to say:... "I’m a proud aboriginal woman born and raised in Inverell by a single mum. I am part of a big extended family in both Inverell and Tingha, so I am well known to a lot of people in the community and I wouldn’t change a thing. I left school in year 11 and starting working 2 jobs at KFC and Inverell TSG to leaving both jobs and moving on to start a new career, getting a Traineeship as a Community Officer at the Linking Together Centre. I enjoy/love spending time with my family and friends. "I love working at the Linking Together Centre because I enjoy being able to assist the people in the community where we can, even if it’s just the little things. It makes my day knowing they are getting the support they need! Due to COVID we are unable to do community fun days and activities like we usually would throughout the year. The community misses it, so I do and I look forward to having these events again when things ease. I work with a great team at the Centre. I’m just really dedicated and passionate about helping/supporting the young people I work with and out in the community." Make sure you say hi to Taylor next time you are at the Centre.
