25.01.2022 NOW SHOWING Leon Pericles Worlds within Worlds ... Leon's work exploits the idea of visual overload with great elan. Working in three dimensions, his multi-faceted prints, paintings and sculptural works are a feast for the eye. He describes them as 'worlds within worlds that have a compass point of infinite distance with the clarity of an intimate environment,' and that sense of endless possibility, of expansive horizons and unbridled range beautifully captures their optimism and generosity; characteristics never in short order in Leon's life and work." (From Forward by Prof. Ted Snell in Leon Pericles: Just Scratching the Surface; A Retrospective) Leon Pericles admits he is The Man Exploding with Too Many Ideas. A constant flow of concepts come to him with never enough time to do them all. In this show we explore his many talents with a selection of his masterful etchings, accomplished paintings and 3D mixed media constructions. Vibrant colours, detail overload and a sense of humour permeate his works. OFFICIAL OPENING SOLD OUT. Thursday 12 November TWO SESSIONS ARE NOW BOTH FULL 6-7pm and 7-8pm Official Opening FULL as numbers are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. SUBIACO GALLERY 2 299 Railway Road (Cnr. Nicholson Road) Subiaco Monday - Sunday 10am - 4pm See more

25.01.2022 There are those that work desperately to become an artist and then there are those that could not possibly be anything else; creative souls with the gift to transform emotion and imagination into physical representations that alter and inspire others. Whilst it is rare to have such talent, it is not unusual for those with these gifts to cross between different creative disciplines. Paul Carter is one such example. He may have sold over 3 million copies of his books as an au...thor, but make no mistake about it - his art is just as formidable as his writing. And there is a common ground between the two, an inescapable reflection of the man himself. A raw modern style with the brutal and direct language of Vonnegut and the pop immediacy of artists such as Basquiat or Lichtenstein. 23.01.2022 The eagerly anticipated 2020 exhibition by Yvonne Zago is now available for previewing. Fever Dreams is a place where magic exists and anything is possible ... "I have always wanted to be a storyteller. I'm not very good at it verbally. My words trip over themselves in their eagerness to come out all at once, so painting is a way I can do this. Ultimately however, my goal is for it not to remain in fantasyland, but to transcend that. I am not somebody who just paints for myself. I believe in reciprocity. I would like to find what is compelling in what could be dismissed as corny but try to make it universal" Yvonne Zago 2020 Fever Dreams 15 August-3 September SUBIACO GALLERY 299 Railway Road (Cnr. 22.01.2022 My painting explores romantic landscape painting and the deeper emotional response and engagement through mysterious and shifting Australian landscape. 16.01.2022 FEVER DREAMS We invite you to join artist Yvonne Zago on Saturday 22 August from 1-3 pm for a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon! My paintings are never just about the figure, the landscape or the characters and animals within the painting plane; theyre about how all of those elements interact and co-exist together. A painting cannot exist without a viewer and in the space between the painting and viewer is a constant flow of unseen communication. Each person brings ...their own threads of narrative to the work, and I like to imagine each thread spinning webs around the painting forming a huge cocoon of invisible stories. 14.01.2022 Burned and Turned, Time, Unpredictability and Rejuvenation inform this body of work. Whilst fascinated by the markings of the Bardi Moth wings, I was intrigued to learn the Bardi Moth only lives for twenty-four hours. While working with the Bardi Moth images, I lost close family members and the value of time became so much more important. Soon after, the Covid tsunami hit and the value of time took a new dimension again. I use fire to create my images and with the artwo...rk in this exhibition, used various other mediums that have unpredictable outcomes to reinforce the unpredictability of this year. Where we are, right now in time, might feel as though we are enduring an unpredictable, impervious fire, but like fire in nature which rejuvenates plants and flowers in our bushland, I hope we can gain a new a new perception that will brighten our world and give a fresh sense of hope. Sandie Schroder 2020 Working with wood, Ian Moss states: "There is a natural tactile warmth in the wood and the silky smoothness of the surface always gives pleasure like almost no other material. The variations in colour, patterning and grain make each piece of wood unique before the wood turner creates something new from it." 12.01.2022 'TRANSIENCE' . . . no moment is forever, all moments are unique. "Every moment is a nexus of future possibilities and unrealized potential, each holding unique values waiting to be realised, or left to slip quietly and inevitably into the past, a mere echo of what might have been. ... Through each window of observation, light, liquid & timing, conspire to reveal new perspectives, each born of coincidence and destined to reveal itself, though fleetingly, as further evidence of the transient nature of the world around us. A reminder of the simple, yet infinite wonders, just waiting to be recognized. These are my instinctive responses to what presents before me, and are the results of personal reflection, and the following of my own curious nature, while contemplating the 'forever dance' between the water and the light!' . . . 11.01.2022 Non Sequitur Matthew Wright 14-30 August These works are an investigation into habitat and personal space within a suburban context. 09.01.2022 Who are these people populating the canvasses of Australian artist Stewart MacFarlane? Across four decades, MacFarlane has recruited friends, strangers and other artists to act as protagonists in his staged dramas. His paintings glow with saturated colour, often theatrically lit, highlighting the anxieties lurking beneath the patina of our apparently techno-comfortable contemporary urban life. His work is held by collections including The National Gallery of Australia, Canb...erra; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; Artbank, Sydney; regional and university collections and internationally in the United States. In 1827 English explorers arrived to a stunningly beautiful Swan River and surrounding landscape. They described it as looking like a large park. What they were witnessing was a vast estate skilfully managed by the Whadjuk Noongar people over thousands of years. Experiencing his work is like being immersed in nature and feeling its different states of change. In his new series, the viewer is invited to contemplate each work intimately through subtle pictorial devises. 07.01.2022 Leading WA husband and wife artists Peteris (Peter) Ciemitis and Jillian Ciemitis are calling for the community to adopt an outlook of calmness and reflection during the pandemic. The exhibition uses the idea of a transect; a path over the landscape along which observations are made. Jillian and Peter have delved into several landscape points to pause and look around; an imaginary rock hewn landscape, a fog shrouded forest, or a sublime old city. In each place, the view...er is invited to take stock and absorb some of the details. Exhibition curator Karen Shirley said Transect is a thought provoking, collaborative response by two internationally acclaimed artists working in different media on how change affects our sense of place on any transect, whether it be urban or rural. 02.01.2022 In 2020, there is a need to pause, to take in our surroundings and recover some calmness. TRANSECT Peteris and Jillian Ciemitis... 5-27 September Mandoon Estate Gallery Artists Peter and Jillian Ciemitis have responded by putting together an exhibition that does exactly that; pauses to take in surroundings. This exhibition uses the idea of a transect; a path over the landscape along which observations are made. Jillian and Peter have delved into several landscape points to pause and look around; an imaginary rock hewn landscape, a fog shrouded forest, or a sublime old city. In each place, the viewer is invited to take stock and absorb some of the details the artists offer up.
