We will reassess whether to go ahead with Open Days in forthcoming months as events unfold. This is an unfolding crisis and we will be advised by medical authorities on what is best practice for our volunteers and visitors.

14.01.2022 Thanks everyone for making our AGM over Zoom so successful tonight. Congratulations to the Committee elected for 2020-21 - President - Jill Wheeler Secretary - Drew Hopkins... Treasurer - Karen Ronan With committee members - Sue Collins, Janet Pathe and Monica Keefe. A big decision passed by all at the meeting tonight was to waive the membership fee (of $28) for the 2020-21 year due to Covid-19 . Normally, the annual subscription for the Society has to be approved at the AGM. Our committee decided to not levy a subscription in 2020-21, but to simply roll over everyone’s subscription. This also means each member’s membership has been automatically renewed for 2021. It was decided to also include any new members to join during this year. (Membership forms can be found on our website www.lintonhistory.org.au). We feel this is an appropriate decision to take, as the pandemic has prevented us from providing our usual level of service to members, and consequently our expenses have been lower than usual. However, if you are in a position to make a TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation, to assist us with overheads, and special projects in the coming year, we would very much appreciate it. Donations can be sent by cheque, or paid directly into our Donations Fund: Westpac BSB: 033 605 Account: 416659. Please notify the Treasurer Karen Ronan if you are paying online, and please let Karen know if you require a receipt; phone 0409 026 310, or email [email protected]. A BIG thank you to those who have very generously sent donations.

13.01.2022 The Old Lintonians Association World War 1 ‘Roll of Honor’, unveiled in 1917, commemorating local men who enlisted in the AIF. Those soldiers who had been kille...d were identified with gold squares. This Honor Roll was subsequently hung in the Shire Offices where it remains to this day. A war memorial erected in 2003 outside the Shire Offices added more names & included a female nurse (& also those local veterans of World War 2). 108 locals enlisted in the AIF in WW1 of whom 16 were killed or died of wounds, representing nearly 15 per cent of those who volunteered, a big loss in a little gold rush town. The national death toll was almost 18 per cent of the total who served overseas. Thus Linton’s loss was proportionate with that of the nation’s as a whole. Many other soldiers returned home ill or traumatized. All of them, along with those locals who fought in other wars, remembered by the Linton community on ANZAC Day 2020. See more
