This article highlights recent research which confirms that handwriting skills needs to take priority over keyboarding skills in early primary years. https://www.aare.edu.au/blog/?p=5296

18.01.2022 In the deep and dark land’s heart Where moans the South Wind cold, You will find a sun-filled cave When you walk a spiral road.... Shimmering stars will sing above To the crystals that glitter below, While you draw your light from a flame so bright Bringing warmth to all with your glow. As the longest night draws near, today we found the warmth within; every student and class teacher walked the spiral with reverence with Bessie playing on guitar. The spiral was made with our local foliage collected by Josh and the team, and arranged in our beautiful hall by our principal Tracey. (Original poem by E. Schwartz; adapted by Linuwel Class 4 2020)

18.01.2022 Class 3 have recently shared their wonderful, creative work & the great joy of their first major project. This is often a significant project throughout many Steiner/Waldorf schools throughout the world. Each child created a model of a traditional home from around the world. The book 'Young Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe, from our recent main lesson provided much inspiration for many of the models. The children were also inspired by their own reading, research and a variety of cultures and traditions.

10.01.2022 A conversation with Nadine Dyer! Nadine is one of our teaching staff who works with our senior students (Classes 11 and 12). With enormous enthusiasm, she will ...take up the role of Class 11 mentor in in 2021. And over to Nadine... What is your role in the high school, what subjects do you teach, what is/are your area(s) of specialisation or main subject area? This year, I am the Year 12 Mentor. I teach Society and Culture; Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation; Work Studies; and I facilitate and support the students in their Major Project and Self-Directed Learning but technically my areas of expertise are English and Wellbeing! What led to you becoming a teacher at Linuwel? I went to a Steiner School for the first 8 years of my schooling, and I always knew that I wanted to teach using Steiner’s approach. When my husband and I chose Linuwel for our children’s education, I knew that I wanted to teach here. So, when a position opened with a Class 10 group, I jumped at the opportunity. What is your background? I grew up in Sydney and studied for dual qualifications in Primary and Secondary teaching while swimming for Australia. I worked on the motivational speaker circuit before taking a position in PR and Marketing at Macquarie University while I finished my teaching degree. I taught in Sydney and at various schools in the Newcastle area before moving to Maitland, and since then I have completed a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and have worked as wellbeing consultant and mentor before joining the Linuwel team in 2017. What are your interests and what are you passionate about? I am passionate about supporting young people to find their voice, develop resilience, and to reach their full potential all very lofty ideals but in the everyday, I like to garden, to play guitar and sing (however scrappily), and if I can string a few hours of solitude together, I write. #steinereducationaustralia#humansoflinuwel#linuwelsteinerschool

07.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. The NAIDOC 2020 theme was spotted in the Class 1 garden today!
05.01.2022 NAIDOC week begins today and Linuwel School is proud to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2020 National NAIDOC Poster, Shape of Land, was designed by Tyrown Waigana, a Noongar and Saibai Islander man. Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created... our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land. 02.01.2022 This is a creative response to Ziggy Ramo’s song ‘April 25th'. The song speaks to a double standard held by white Australia, in that we can acknowledge what the ANZACs sacrificed for their culture, but still cannot come to acknowledge what Indigenous people have sacrificed for theirs. In an interview with Q+A on the ABC, Ramo raises the point that there were indigenous soldiers fighting in world wars one and two who didn’t obtain the same recognition as their fellow white c...ounterparts. This is at the core of my artwork. In the picture I have placed an ANZAC soldier on a plinth, representing the one ANZAC truth, glorified and unchanging. Below the plinth are the shadows of the trenches, the unbiased reality that is rarely seen. The trenches are what the ANZAC plinth is built on, not only in the picture, but also in reality. In the trenches are the Indigenous ANZACs symbolizing that their deeds of service were buried along with the trenches themselves. - William, Class 12
02.01.2022 We welcomed our students back to school today with great gratitude of the Wonnarua land upon which our school lives.
02.01.2022 Year 12 have been working hard to bring together their final set of assessment tasks for 2020. This beautiful piece was the creative response to an exploration of language, identity, and culture in English. In reflecting upon the film, "Charlie's Country" this piece expesses the idea that spirit and identity are held together through memory, and memory shapes who we are. The stone has been used to represent spirit, and as the properties of rose quartz are associated with rela...tionships, love, trust, harmony, and peace. Memories that draw on these hold the spirit just as the memory knots hold the stone. Being stone, it is also of the land, just as the central character, Charlie, is of the land. The shape of the piece shows how Charlie, moved from his spiritual connection to the collective dreaming of his people, through a sense of dislocation and loss of identity, to reconnection with love for Country and Culture, and finally coming to a point where he was ready to share his memories and knowledge with the next generation.
