24.01.2022 We’re delighted to confirm Limor Ladyada Fried, electrical engineer and founder of Adafruit, as one of our keynote speakers for linux.conf.au 2021. Limor will talk to us about how Python is snaking its way into hardware, Linux single board computers and more. Limor was the first female engineer on the cover of WIRED magazine, awarded Entrepreneur Magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year, and was on the cover of Make: Vol. 57. She was a founding member of the New York City Indu...strial Business Advisory Council. Limor was named a White House Champion of Change in 2016. 21.01.2022 We are pleased to announce that ticket sales for linux.conf.au 2021 have now launched! This year the conference is taking place online, worldwide, from Saturday 23 to Monday 25 January. Saturday 23 January will be a day of Miniconfs, followed by two days of main conference on Sunday 24 and Monday 25 January. We have a limited number of swag badges on offer. 21.01.2022 We have a record-breaking number of women speaking at LCA2020. We are hosting a Women of Open Technology breakfast to celebrate success of women’s involvement in the tech industry and highlight areas for improvement. The breakfast will offer the opportunity for women to come together for a ‘meta discussion’ about diversity and how the industry could become a more inclusive place for women and other marginalised groups. If you have ideas or developments you want to share with our community in January 2021 you best get your skates on. You have until this Friday 6 November to get your submissions in. The theme centres around a question many of us have been asking ourselves in 2020: "So what’s next?. ... How can open source play a role in creating, helping and adapting to the ongoing changes we’re all facing? What new developments in software and coding can we look forward to in 2021 and beyond? 15.01.2022 Call for sessions for our 12 MiniConfs are still open. What’s a MiniConf? MiniConfs are day-long streams focussing on single topics. This year we have MiniConfs covering open administration, education, hardware and security (just to name a few). ... What should I submit? You need to write a short abstract covering what you plan to speak about, which will be reviewed by the MiniConf organising teams. If you’re unsure about your idea share it with our Twitter community or just submit it! When do I need to submit by? You’ve got just over a month, with proposals closing on December 8. BUT, if you get in early you might receive early acceptance, which starts from November 17 (that’s just two weeks away...)

03.01.2022 We’re thrilled to confirm Cory Doctorow as one of our keynote speakers for linux.conf.au 2021. Cory Doctorow is science fiction author and tech activist. He has worked for the Electronic Frontier Foundation and helped found the Open Rights Group. He is an advocate of liberalising copyright law. He has held various academic posts and is a visiting professor of the Open University. His latest novel, Attack Surface, was published earlier this year. Cory will explain how software freedom is essential to human freedom, and discuss the urgency of reclaiming our digital rights in an era of digital monopolies.

In her keynote, Omoju will discuss participation in open-source as a form of cognitive apprenticeship. She will map out how the transition step from novice to expert aligns with the progressions we see in the roles taken on in open source communities. Omoju will share ideas on how to make the transition from beginner to master faster by acc...essing what we know from education research.
