24.01.2022 An initial discussion two months ago between Brisbane Macgregor Lion Narelle Wyvill-Anstey and Councillor Steven Huang about helping Seniors during this Covid-19 situation, started with the idea to help 100 people and has grown to helping 500. As part of the Community Care Pack Project, Brisbane Macgregor Lions, Councillor Steven Huang and Narelle Wyvill-Anstey together with the Australian Ethnic Chinese & Taiwanese Communities were able to source bulk supplies and spent a c...ouple of working bees putting the community care packs together. Each pack contains 10 face masks, hand sanitiser, 2 toilet rolls, a box of tissues, soap, a kitchen paper towel roll, one litre long life milk, tea, coffee, 2 serves of soup-in-a-cup and a random gift. Brisbane MacGregor Lion Cr Steven Huang and Paul Shih (Honorary Ambassador of the Lord Mayors Charitable Trust) have arranged to donate 500 Care packs to Seniors & those in need. They also obtained donations and sponsorship from: Glamorous Wok, YFG Shopping Centres, Juxgold Development, Knowledge Bank Institute of Australia, Cr Steven Huang, Shenay Sun, Shirley Xu, Xinrong Liu, Anna Wang, Vivian Song, Cathy Dai, Nancy & Cecilia Nie. 11.01.2022 Happy Interational Friendship Day to all! #201Q1 #Q1Lions #InternationalFriendshipDay #WorldFriendshipDay #KindnessMatters A little about the day!... World Friendship Day, also known as International Day of Friendship takes place on 30th July. The original idea for a day of friendship came from Hallmark cards in the 1930s. Originally celebrated on 2nd August, the day was largely viewed cynically by the public as a money making exercise, sales of friendship day cards did not take off in Europe and by the mid-1940s the day had faded into obscurity in the USA. The idea of a day to honour friendship was, however, adopted by a number of countries in Asia where it remained a popular custom to reserve a day for celebrating friendships and the exchange of gifts between friends. The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation that campaigns to foster a culture of peace through friendship. Many years later, in 2011, the 30th July was declared as the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly of United Nations. With the growing popularity of social media throughout the world, there has been an increase in celebrating World Friendship day and International Day of Friendship online as well as with community activities in local communities aimed at bringing those of different backgrounds together.

10.01.2022 Some Brisbane MacGregor Lions club members with family and friends are pictured volunteering at our recent Bunnings BBQ on Sunday. Covid-19 restrictions have changed the way people must queue and order with payments able to be made by card as well as cash. It is a much needed boost to our fundraising and a positive start to 2021. Thankyou to those who were able to help and those who came along and enjoyed a sausage sizzle whist supporting our community fundraising.
10.01.2022 World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to attract awareness and encourage action to protect the environment. The theme for 2020 is Celebrate Biodiversity as 1 million species are facing extinction. Simple things we can do to protect our environment: Reduce, reuse, recycle; volunteer at cleanups; conserve water; shop responsibly by buying sustainable products; use energy efficient light bulbs and electrical appliances; plant a tree; dispose... of chemicals and pollutants responsibly so they do not end up in our waterways. Brisbane Macgregor Lions Club is doing its share for our environment by taking part in Cleanup Australia Day and by taking part in various recycling projects such as Qld Container Refund Scheme, Recycle for Sight (Lions Clubs International Worldwide Eyeglass Recycling Program) and TerraCycle (A program to recycle used oral products and bread bag tags).#WeServe See more

05.01.2022 Our club was able to help with the request from Southside Community Care Inc to supply 8 single and 2 queen bed mattresses. These mattresses are for the supported accommodation properties where homeless families are housed during the crisis period. These families can be one parent or 2 parents with one or up to six children. Families who are homeless or moving around temporary accommodation often have few belongings. Southside Community Care has 16 crisis accommodation proper...ties which they furnish from community donations including from our LAPD (Lions Assist Property Dept) program. For health and safety reasons mattresses are best provided new and tenants take the mattresses when they move to more stable accommodation. Through our LAPD program, and with a discount given by BigW Garden City, Chairperson Narelle Wyvill-Anstey was also able to provide 20 new pillows to Southside Community Care. They had no pillows left in stock so the help was invaluable.
