08.01.2022 It’s Queensland Road Safety Week. Saving lives and reducing serious injuries on our roads is everyone’s responsibility! We're hosting a Nomad Safety morning tea... at Springsure Virgin Rock rest area between 7 and 11am. We will be offering free caravan weighs, safe towing advice, other road safety information and free giveaways. Everyone is welcome! 07.01.2022 Attention camp oven cooks! On Saturday the Springsure Rural Fire Brigade is organising a camp oven cook-off competition, and they need you! The competition is m...ade up of four categories: scones and damper, soups or stews, roast meal and finally desserts. Pat Kooyman the Captain of the Springsure Rural Fire Unit and organiser of the camp oven cook-off says the key to success is getting the right heat. "A lot of people don't take the time to cut their timber, get their fire going for a few hours to get their coals right and then cook their meal. "You've got to learn how to read your coals from your fire. A lot of people make the mistake of mounding the coals up around the camp oven and on the lid and it becomes way too hot. "I'm afraid to say it's a bit of a dying art; a few of us older blokes are still doing it, but what we'd really like to see on Saturday is a few of the younger people get out and give it a go." The Camp Oven Cook Off is happening on Saturday afternoon from 3pm at the Springsure Lions Park under Virgin Rock.
