12.01.2022 The Lions Club of Kalamunda proudly sponsored a young boy, Steele Serramondi, in the Lions Children of Courage Awards. Steele was born on the 29th Dec 2011 in North West Western Australia and at 5 months he was airlifted to Perth by the Flying Doctor with a serious heart condition (diagnosed at Ebstein Abnormality of the Tricuspid Valve) After surgery, partial success and he celebrated his 1st birthday. Shortly after he became ill and the doctors decided the only option was ...to fly him to Melbourne for further surgery. 11 hours in the operating room and off to ICU, unfortunately all did not go well and Steele was back in surgery for another 8 hour marathon with a 50/50 chance. Thankfully, success Steele pulled through and the family returned to Perth. He is getting better day by day although further surgery will be required as he grows older. Steele attends school and is doing well. Thanks to the Doctors, Staff, Hospital and Heart Kids. Our thoughts and best wishes go to him and his wonderful parents Hani and Karl See more

02.01.2022 Hug Bags was started a few years ago by Sandy Heales with just a few ladies and has grown to about 12. We make and give bags to children - usually from domestic violence situations to bridge the gap from when they are taken until they are placed into foster care. The bags are made gender and age specific and contain items they need before they are placed. The children range from babies to 18 years of age. The bags contain all their toiletries, a toilet bag, pyjamas, under...wear, socks, t -shirts, shorts, pencils, rubbers, rulers, colouring books, always a toy, a bear and a blanket or quilt. This means that they have something of their own to take with them. We each provide and rely on the generosity of donations to make this possible. We have been fortunate to have both Youth Focus and Lions Club Kalamunda make donations to help us buy some of the items required and provide Christmas Presents. Some ladies knit bears or sew toys. We make wash/toilet bags from rubber backed curtaining and cloth bags 23 x 20 to hold all the items each child receives. All the items we give are new. We work with Dept. of Child Protection and McKillop House and also give items to Fostering Hope. We have also donated to the Police Dept. and at present are trying to help the Esther Foundation which has recently re-located to Kalamunda. The clients there range from babies to mature women. Some of these people are also from domestic violence situations and others are trying to turn their lives around from addictions. Over the last 12 months we have donated over 100 bags to children in need. In additions we have this week donated 36 bags to the Esther Foundation for children from babies to 20 years old. It is amazing how much this means to these children and it gives us great pleasure to provide these bags. I am happy to talk with if you would like to know more. Bev Downing If anyone would like to assist please contact Lions Kalamunda . See more
02.01.2022 At last a post from us, we have been busy but havent posted any of our tasks. Here are a couple of events we have carried out recently. Three members volunteered again for our 14th attendance at the City to Surf , this year carrying out parking management. As with past years , start at 6am (freezing cold) and finished about 8.30am , enjoyed the time , and thanked by the organisers, well done all. On Friday 13th Sept , we assisted the Maida Vale Primary School (one of our loc...al ones ). Our task was to supply sausage sizzle for about 350 kids. The day was their sports day. Setting up easy , getting cooking easy , then the chaos . The kids had a dinner break of 45 minutes and every sausage sizzle had to be ready for pick up. With 7 of our members and 5 parents , we smashed them out, bit of a queue but everyone got fed and the day progressed. Well done everyone and a well deserved rest in the arvo. See more
