15.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW... It is estimated Australians use 1 billion disposable coffee cups each year; that’s approximately 2.700.000 paper coffee cups thrown out every... day. DID YOU KNOW... It takes 30 years to decompose and the new bio/ eco cups still need more than one year to break down. WE CAN STOP THIS WASTE... We can recycle the coffee cups! ECO ENVIRO CONCEPTS have a vision to introduce recycled and compostable materials back into our household lives. Coffee cups are collected from eco-friendly folk, markets and community gardens. The cups are then processed separating the plastic to make raw material. This raw material is then used to make punnets, pots, germination cubes and bricks. DID YOU KNOW... ECO ENVIRON CONCEPTS are going to be at the Nhill Lions Community Market on Sunday 21st March at Nhill Jaypex Park. The mission of Eco Environ Concepts is to recycle 180,000 cups per year into compostable products and they have chosen to come to our Market to help them do that. SO, SAVE YOUR COFFEE CUPS AND BRING THEM TO THE MARKET!

13.01.2022 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! Wishing all of our Lions that are Mums and all of the Mums of our Lions a great day!

11.01.2022 Thank you to Lion Lesley Gordon for this write-up :) On the day following Valentine’s Day [Saturday 15th February] family and friends of Fern Alden and Glen Elliot were invited to a surprise event! Meticulous planning had been quietly taking place for many months unbeknown to the group who gathered near the amazing archway crafted from rusty shovels at Nhill Billy Farm.... Just after 5pm Ian Meek drove his gorgeous old jalopy to the assembled party with Fern and daughter Lani on board, beautifully attired in beaded and fringed Roaring 20’s style dresses and headpieces. By then guests were beginning to get a little suspicious just what was going on???? A beaming Glen and radiant Fern then informed those present that this event was their Wedding! The registered celebrant notified everyone that the date [15th Feb] held a special significance for the couple in that on this date 16 years previously they had gone on a date for the very first time. From the ceremony amid cheers, laughter, hugs and happy tears, Fern, Glen and Lani led the party to a beautifully set out area. A long bridal table sat between two large silos, a chaise lounge area and an authentic rusty old ute. As requested on their invitations, the dress for the occasion was Roaring 20’s and before long guests knew why..... A Murder Mystery involving each person playing the role of flapper, bootlegger, waiter, shifty bar tender, private eye, film producer and many more roles soon had the wedding guests trying to solve a dang, grizzly crime! Yankie accents abounded and the unbridled dramatic antics of all the players kept everyone on their toes and amused. Throughout the evening the Nhill Billy caterers served up a hot roast meal and Geoff Woodward entertained everyone with his unique music. During speeches to congratulate the happy couple, numerous guests spoke of their high regard for Fern and Glen and daughter Lani concluded with her endorsement Just the best mum and dad! I love you. Congratulations Fern and Glen may you enjoy many more happy, healthy years together.

11.01.2022 NHILL LIONS COMMUNITY MARKET SUNDAY 21ST MARCH 2021 JAYPEX PARK, NHILL Don't forget to save those coffee cups folks .......... Eco Enviro Concepts will be at the market to collect them all! See you there!

06.01.2022 From Lion Shirley Blackwood - Even in times of isolation Nhill Lions remember. In the peace of late Anzac Day afternoon, President Lindsay Blackwood lays a wreath on behalf of all the members. Lest We Forget.

05.01.2022 Thanks to Lion Shirley Blackwood for this write-up. :) 10th March 2020: Tuesday evening a large contingent of Nhillites travelled to Goroke to support Nhill Lions Club Youth of the Year recipient, Mikayla Farmers, in her quest to advance to the final stages of this prestigious award.... The competition was held at the Goroke P12 College at which students and teachers from the college catered a delicious two course meal for more than 60 people. Mikayla was one of three contestants competing for the Lions Youth of the Year Zone Finalist Award. The two other excellent contenders were Pippa Munn from Kaniva and Kyra Clarke representing Natimuk Lions Club. These three young women each faced an interview panel of judges followed by two impromptu questions before they delivered their prepared 5 minute speech. Mikayla’s chosen subject was Are Social Media Friends ‘Real’ Friends? It has been stated, that on any given occasion, due to the fact that each of these young women presented their topics and themselves so admirably, any one of them could have been a winner. Youth of the Year is divided into two sections The Public Speaking Award and The Overall Award which takes in the interview, resume, and personal presentation. On this occasion the Nhill Lions contestant, Mikayla Farmers was announced the winner of not only the Public Speaking Award but also the Overall Winner. This means that Mikayla will progress to the Lions District Final to be held in Torquay at the end of March. Mikayla’s achievements are yet another example of Nhill [country students] punching above their weight! The Lions Club of Nhill Inc. are extremely proud of Mikayla and wish to acknowledge the continued collaboration and support of the Nhill College with this wonderful program for our youth. Congratulations Mikayla and very best wishes for further success.

05.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Some info from Fire Protection Australia: It is important that smoke alarms are tested regularly (usually monthly) to ensure they are operating correctly. In addition, every year, generally at the end of the daylight saving period, it is strongly recommended that you replace the batteries in all smoke alarms located in your home. Smoke alarms should also be cleaned / vacuumed at this time.... Cheers, Kerrie

03.01.2022 Thank you to Lion Lesley Gordon for this write-up. :) IN THE SPIRIT OF LIONS AWARD In 2016, the Lions Club of Nhill voted to offer an annual award to a pupil from each primary school in Nhill. They dubbed it the In the Spirit of Lions Award.... Each year the Lions Club of Nhill Inc. Youth Director attends all three Primary School Presentation evenings to present this award. The award is for a suitable recipient who is chosen by the Teachers and is, in their opinion, the young person who best demonstrates the Lions’ motto Where there is a need, there is a Lion The teachers at each of the Nhill Primary Schools choose a pupil who is always ready to lend a hand on any school activity or project. This student exhibits the qualities of good manners and respect toward fellow students and teachers with no expectation of reward. Although this award is similar to a Citizenship Award, the Nhill Lions members believe an award such as In the Spirit of Lions, given in the junior school years, may provide recognition to a less outgoing, quieter student, one who may otherwise go unnoticed. In December 2019, Lion Shirley Blackwood [Nhill Lions Youth Director] attended graduation and end of year activities at the three primary schools, where she presented Certificates and a presentation to the winning students. Recipients for 2019 were Bailee White from Nhill College, joint winners Olivia Watson and Hanna Cannell from St. Patricks Primary School and Rachel Reichelt from Nhill Lutheran School. Congratulations and well done to all these students. Photo: Lion Shirley Blackwood with 2019 Nhill College recipient of the In the Spirit of Lions Award, Bailee White.
