22.01.2022 Dont forget the Heritage Trail Opening at noon this coming Sunday. Please share this post with all your friends. We would like to see as many as possible at the opening.

21.01.2022 Some days ago, we issued an invitation to the opening of the Park Orchards Heritage Trail for Sunday 19th May 2019. We are now pleased to report that the Trail has been opened by the Mayor of Manningham, Paula Piccinini. The development of the Heritage Trail is an initiative of the Park Orchards Lions and is a gift to the community in recognition of the clubs 40 year anniversary along with the 100 years of Lions internationally. Further detail on the Heritage Trail is avail...able on the Park Orchards Lions Club website. https://www.lionsparkorchards.org/po-heritage-trail.html The Lions Club of Park Orchards thanks the Manningham Council for their support, guidance and financial contribution towards the development of the Heritage Trail. The club is also grateful to Lions International for their financial support that contributed to the success of the project.

20.01.2022 We regret to inform everyone that the Park Orchards Community Carols scheduled for Sunday December 1st has been cancelled due to the forecast inclement weather. We thank everyone for their patience. We had been delaying this decision as long as possible in anticipation that the forecast may improve but sadly can delay no longer. We thank everyone for their input and hard work and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

18.01.2022 Another one of the several worthwhile causes that the Park Orchards Lions Club supports.

18.01.2022 The Park Orchards Lions in negotiations with the Manningham City Council are planning to build a Community Wall. You have the opportunity to immortalise your name on a brick and support the local community at the same time. Please register an expression of interest as per the details in our notice.

17.01.2022 The Car Rally is only two weeks away. If it is not already in your calendar, please put it there now and please get your entries in. The funds raised will be going to Bushfire Relief and medical support on the Kokoda Track. More information on the Car Rally website.

17.01.2022 A very big thank you to Bunnings for their generous $500 donation to the Park Orchards Lions Club in the absence of the clubs ability to raise funds through regular sausage sizzles at Bunnings. With our traditional fund raising opportunities suspended due COVID 19, the donation from Bunnings will assist the clubs deserving welfare activities. Thank you Bunnings.

16.01.2022 Every year, for many years, the Lions Club of Park Orchards has supported the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. In the early years, our members would hit the pavement and door knock on the Red Shield Appeal Weekend. More recently, our members would stand on the intersection of Blackburn and Doncaster Roads and rattle the tins to the passing traffic. The support that we received from the Salvation Army was terrific. The members of our club are extremely disappointed that we ar...e unable to participate as tin rattlers due Covid19 restrictions. In the absence of our opportunity to knock on doors or rattle tins, we do support the Digital Door Knock at https://www.salvationarmy.org.au/red-shi/digital-doorknock/ The Salvation Army provide important services to people in their time of need. And as an outcome of COVID19, the demands for support from the community have stretched the Salvation Army and at the same time, their major fund raiser for the year has been curtailed. If everybody who would normally throw spare change into the collection tins either to a door knocker or at an intersection could donate a small amount to the digital doorknock, together we could help those in need.

15.01.2022 The Lions Club of Park Orchards set up their Snag Buster at the North Ringwood Shopping centre today to raise funds for the people impacted by the Bushfires. The members of the club had a great time cooking snags while the shoppers enjoyed the snags cooked by our master chefs and were very generous with their donations into our bushfire donations bucket. For those who missed out today, the club will be at North Ringwood again next Saturday January 18th between 8:30am and 1:00pm. Be sure to come and have a snag, a chat to our members and support our fund raising for those impacted by the bushfires.

15.01.2022 Annually, the Lions Club of Park Orchards presents community spirit awards to sporting clubs and primary schools in the local area. The award consists of a trophy for the recipient individual with a cash donation to the host club/school. With the current bushfire crisis, the Park Orchards Tennis Club has requested that the $300.00 cash component of their 2019 Community Spirit Award be redirected towards those people impacted by the current bushfires. Park Orchards Lions would like to thank the Park Orchards Tennis Club for making this generous donation. A great demonstration of Community Spirit. Thankyou POTC.

12.01.2022 On Friday December 6th, the Park Orchards Lions will be cooking the snags at Bunnings Nunawading. The proceeds will be donated to people impacted by the NSW/QLD bushfires.

06.01.2022 Park Orchards Community Wall Update: Unfortunately the Lions Club has had a couple of minor delays in getting the final approvals from council for the Community Wall and this is largely attributed to the difficulties associated with work processes in a COVID-19 world. The impact of this is that the wall is unlikely to be constructed until after Christmas. While the application to build the wall is still progressing with council, we are happy to confirm that we still have th...e capacity for a few more bricks and accordingly, we have extended the application close off date to 31st October. So there is still time and room for more applications. Application forms for a place on the Park Orchards Community Wall are available on the Park Orchards Lions Club website at the following link; https://www.lionsparkorchards.org/po-community-wall.html

06.01.2022 On Sunday the 19th May at 12 noon at the corner of Hopetoun and Park roads a significant project will be unveiled that details the rich and colourful history of Park Orchards. The Park Orchards Lions Club, with assistance from the Manningham City Council, have been working over the last 12 months to deliver a Heritage Trail that gives an account of many of the great sites, characters and facts about this great suburb. This Heritage Trail will provide the chance to learn abou...t, and provide answers to questions such as the following; Is it true that the suburb of Park Orchards had a golf course? Why are there so many pine trees in the suburb? Was Domeney the first oval and sporting complex in Park Orchards? What role did the Chalet play during the Second World War? Was there ever a spy school in the suburb? Who was Domeney Reserve named after? What is the history of the Park Orchards Primary School and who gave their names to the 4 school house names? What is the significance of the small chapel at St Annes school and church? What leading role did Tom Petty provide in the local history? Did you know that there was once a small hospital in Park Orchards? How did Park Orchards end up with a street design layout that resembles a miniature version of Canberras layout? Why is Park Orchards fortunate enough to have a 100 acres of virgin bushland in the middle of the suburb ? The answer to these and many other questions will be answered when you join us for the official opening. This will be a great chance to mix with other community members whilst enjoying a traditional Lions Club sausage sizzle or perhaps a coffee? Maybe you would like to go on a tag along walk to see part or all of the Trail .Whatever, it would be wonderful to see a large crowd there to celebrate the occasion. The Heritage Trail is a gift from the Park Orchards Lions Club to the local community to celebrate 40 years of local service, where in excess of $1million has been raised over this time and used to benefit local , national and international projects. Coincidently it happens to coincide with 100 years of service internationally by the Lions organisation.

06.01.2022 Park Orchards Community Rally is fast approaching. The Rally is scheduled for Sunday 1st March. Benefiiciaries of funds raised will be the Kokoda Track Foundation and Bushfire Relief. More detail and entry forms available on the Car Rally website. http://www.pocommunityrally.com.au

05.01.2022 We know it is only October but before we know it, Christmas will be here and by then hopefully we will have some significant relief from the Covid-19 restrictions. In the meantime in preparation for Christmas, the Lions Club of Park Orchards is happy to let everyone know that our Christmas Cakes are in stock and available at Lorenti’s, the Park Orchards Post Office and the Blue Dog Café. The Lions Club are most appreciative that these three businesses in Park Orchards are supporting the club and encourage the community to support these businesses while popping in to buy a Christmas Cake.

04.01.2022 Save the date: Sunday March 1st 2020 - Park Orchards Community Car Rally

03.01.2022 Like all everybody else within the community, in the current environment the Lions Club of Park Orchards has had our activities severely curtailed. The club has adapted as best we can by using Zoom technology to host our regular meetings. The clubs fundraising activities have effectively stalled during lockdown but planning is about to begin for if/when the club can return to normal activities. In the meantime, the club has discussed the merits and issues surrounding the C...OVIDSafe App. And while there are some issues with the App, the club believes that the benefits of the App for the community, far outweigh the risks. Most of our members have already downloaded the app or are planning to do so in the near future. The club encourages members of the wider community to seriously consider doing the same. As has been well publicised within the media, the Victorian government is also undertaking an extensive testing program and the Park Orchards Lions Club would encourage all members of the community who meet the criteria to get tested. Criteria details are available on the Health and Human Services (DHHS) website at the following link. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/getting-tested-coronavirus-covi In the meantime keep safe.

02.01.2022 KTF is a very worthwhile cause that the Lions Club of Park Orchards is proud to support. It is one of a number of great causes supported by our Lions Club. While we dont support projects for the plaudits, It is always great to receive acknowledgment for the work we do.

02.01.2022 Matt and Tim were challenged by some of our awesome clients this morning to eat 8 sausages each in a bid to raise some money for the Lions Club of Park Orchards... fundraiser. We can (with proof) say that this was completed by both boys within less than an hour. Money has been raised by some of our Friday morning clients with all proceeds going to the fundraiser. Excellent job boys and clients!!! Disclaimer - dont try this at home See more
