06.01.2022 Some Information from Lion Tony Kennedy N2 YOTY Chairman. Dear Lions, I trust that your club has decided to participate in the 2020-2021 Youth Of The Year (YOTY) YOTY contest. This contest is aimed at all young people between 16 and 18 years of age and it is your opportunity as a Lion to work with the youth of your local area. The YOTY contest will help the youth that you work with to build skills that will be essential for their further education and will assist them to be v...aluable participants of society. As I have tried to stress in previous communications, the most important level of the YOTY contest is at the club level where it should be considered as a very special Lions activity that builds up the youth within our local communities. I encourage you to work with the youth of your area, who will soon be applying for tertiary, or TAFE, or trying to gain apprenticeships or employment. All of which require strong interview skills. In my last newsletter article, I introduced you to Anthony who with some confidence boosting and the YOTY interview training and the encouragement of Lions members in his area would now be a senior officer in the Australian Army. He would also be a member of his local Lions club contributing further to society. Anthony has two younger siblings and twenty cousins. Because of his rewarding experience with the Lions YOTY contest, Anthony would have encouraged his siblings, cousins, and friends to enter the YOTY, which may have seen another 20 young adults become members of Lions Clubs of Australia. It would be terrific if every club within MD201 can hold a YOTY training session to build the skills of youth within their community. I strongly recommend using the Youth of the Year program as a chance to get to know the youth of your community, working with them, by holding club level interview training session and as an add on a YOTY contest. This would have best been organised to have been held by now. However, early October may still be possible. Any later is likely to be too late due to exams. Key dates: N2 district YOTY contest, Cooma, NSW, 5 - 7 February 2021 NSW / ACT State finals, south coast, NSW, TBA, April 2021 MD201 YOTY contest, Canberra, 7 - 10 May 2021 For further information please refer to the Lions Youth of the Year (YOTY) website, https://lionsclubs.org.au/activities/youth/yoty/ I am proposing to meet with my fellow club level YOTY chairs within the next 2 weeks online via Zoom. An invitation to join a Zoom meeting will be sent by email. I look forward to receiving your club’s YOTY registration. Kind regards, Tony Kennedy N2 YOTY Chair
