25.01.2022 A HELP UP FOR A BABINDA SENIOR Finding a genuine local need and solving it is very satisfying in community service work. Annie Wonga, aboriginal elder of Babin...da, is one who steps up time and time again to recount the traditional stories and make everybody feel welcome at public events and occasions in the area. Rarely does the community get a chance to do something personal for her as age catches up with her physical capabilities. Last December the Babinda Lions Club members got down and dirty and constructed a concrete walk up ramp giving Annie direct access to her carport. It was highly successful and a welcome addition. Getting the team back together for a little dedication ceremony at the site has been almost impossible during the pandemic this year. It happened just last week making it a highlight in what is a very difficult year for genuine community service activities. Pictures: 1 The small project plaque. 2 The team on the site. Glen O’Malley, Ted Griffin, Frank Gatti, Annie Wonga, Stephen Gatti. Missing was Tony Lanzi. 3 Other pictures include construction on the ramp.

As Lions, we should genuinely acknowledge and respect each other’s individual values, beliefs, efforts and ideas. As Lions, we should maintain high standards of integrity and be conscientious in our approach to work. As Lions, we should collaborate with the aim of empowering each other to be the best that we can be. As Lions, we should acknowledge and assume responsibility for our own actions and personal behaviour and know that we are entitled to expect the same from others. As Lions, we are to represent Lions in a way that respects the Lions Purposes and Ethics and promotes confidence in the organisation. As Lions, we are to treat everyone with respect and dignity and in a reasonable, equitable and fair manner. We are not to intimidate, bully or belittle. Sound familiar? It should because it’s what you signed up for Being a Lion is a wonderful privilege. So wear your badge with pride and remember why you signed up to be a part of this great organisation (For a deeper look into the official Lions Australia Code of Conduct, here’s the link https://lionsclubs.org.au//2020-LIONS-CLUB-CODE-OF-CONDUCT) #LionsAustralia #WeServe #KindnessMatters #WearYourBadgeWithPride #LionsFamily #District201V2
