It’s not about who’s winning. Moves are made, strategies tested and tactics observed. Certainly not black and white! Personally, I don’t always see the power struggles as a negative. Young minds are finding a voice. As long as that voice is appropriately expressed.. we are all good! ... Controlling sass is a developing trait.No one wants to quash a child’s spirit, but harness it for the good. What parent doesn’t want their child to be confident, resilient and strong willed? Whilst I occasionally feel I am being vigorously dispossessed of my sceptre and sovereignty LOL; I also see it as a baton I am passing down. It symbolises independence and goodwill. Our children learn from us.. the good and the bad. We only hope they grow to be fierce. Learn to openly express their own opinions respectfully and never be a push over in life. 17.01.2022 Anzac Day 2020 was definitely celebrated with a difference. The ‘Driveway At Dawn’ services this year, brought about so much creative joy. I for one, have just loved seeing all the shared images of these creative efforts. Whether they were messages chalked on our streets, handmade lanterns glowing on the footpaths or artwork/craft hung in our driveways. 12.01.2022 2020 : Escaping A Brave New World Living through a global pandemic is hard enough for adults to comprehend; let alone our children. Lives interrupted, on-hold, turned upside down or just plain cancelled. Lockdowns, social distancing, face masks and hand sanitiser; our new ‘normal’ words.... Our children sense our consternation. It’s encouraging to remember that fuelling young creative minds and sparking their imagination can be a great form of escapism and expression. In collaboration with Frankie, (a young creative lil dude I know), I have created this small artwork to evoke thoughts of this pandemic- through the eyes of a child. Frankie wildly doodles and draws for fun. 12.01.2022 Our children are doing it tough right now. They may be experiencing fear, uncertainty, and there is definitely lots of change. But with positivity, love and imagination.we will all charge ahead .....and get through this together. In 2015, I painted a small piece with a pink T-Rex. The collector contacted me last year and asked if I would consider painting another two for her. So I created a little series about Grace, Strength + Leadership. The Princess + The Long Neck / ... Sometimes life’s challenges will feel a little ‘out of reach’. We must teach our children that they will need to strive hard to reach their goal. But with real grit, a good heart and lots of kindness; they can reach them, no matter how big and impossible they seem. The Princess + The King / We all have ’monsters in our lives'. Our monsters can be fear, anxiety, self-doubt, low self esteem. But what matters most.is that we teach our children to SNARL right back at them! The Princess + The Triceratops / Sometimes they will have to learn to just put their best foot forward, ride the monster and charge ahead with confidence. With a little imagination and creativity, we can change the world.
12.01.2022 A bushfire I’ve never forgotten. I drew this in 1985, I was 6.5yrs old. Fire was threatening our home that backed onto bush. I still remember the fear. The fear in the adults around me. I saw that same fear in my daughters face, when the choppers recently filled the smoky air and she had to go pack her bag for evacuation.... These horrendous fires burning across our country right now are hard enough to watch as adults, let alone through the eyes of a child. They see our fear. They sense our concern. They worry too. They worry for the beautiful wildlife injured and perished. For the tall trees that are burning. For the heroic firies on the frontline. I truly hope that my daughters children can draw pictures of koalas, because they saw one in the wild. They can sculpt a tree because they stood beneath one that still proudly stands in Old Forest. Or they paint a colour-filled picture after snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef. I truly hope that these unprecedented + devastating fires of 2019 are a catalyst for some positive change. Be it a change to slow -or prevent - climate change. A national change to sustainable energy. A change to toughen sentencing of those who commit arson and threaten communities. A change to further support our emergency services with access to bigger fire fighting aircraft. Hope and pray these ease soon.

02.01.2022 Mortality. We all know it is inevitable. Certainly not something we want to dwell on, but it is a predestined and unequivocal fact for all who walk this planet. Sadly, some do know their own journey here is on borrowed time. Cancer is one of these reasons. Both sobering and saddening, to everyone it affects.... Despite this heavy knowledge, a creative, young and vibrant woman decided to face this unfathomable and sad truth with finesse and dignity. On learning of her terminal condition, she bravely asked me to consider creating an artwork for her. Humbled and honoured, I couldn’t refuse. CHASING BUTTERFLIES . became a collaborative piece between us. She shared with me many of her personal thoughts. What was important to her, what makes her HER. She used to find freedom and energy in marathons and running. Her feet were her wings. She has this intrinsic appreciation for the smaller things in life and finds harmony in entomology . The delicate nature of butterflies, the fragility of dragonflies; perhaps it’s the liberty these tiny and beautiful creatures have, that intrigue her. Family are also an integral part of her life, so we represented them symbolically in the painting. Running, flying and travelling with her .every step of the way. Her journey here may be condensed more than she would’ve hoped, but this amazing, caring and good-humoured soul is continuing to fill her days with grace and beauty. Keep chasing those butterflies beautiful lady. Love and light. LLx
