25.01.2022 HEALTH SUPPORT. I’ve just done a special order of lung tonics and stress herbs to support people directly affected by the fires. If you’re a first responder, or someone who has lost home/property in the fires and would like naturopathic health support please get in touch. I have allocated a few spaces next week for free naturopathic consultations. Image @dion_georgopoulos
25.01.2022 Connect before redirect As someone who is good at avoiding things, it can be a struggle It can be as simple as staying with your child and holding them whilst they deal with their negative emotions instead of redirecting them to the happy emotion... Or listening to a friend, instead of giving them advice It allows us to tolerate our feelings instead of suppress and avoid them, which may help our overall mental health by building resilience and tolerance to feelings. Maybe? What do you think?

19.01.2022 A new study (2020) assessing trace elements and mineral levels in children with ADHD found that blood levels of chromium, magnesium and zinc levels in children with ADHD were 21% lower than the healthy controls. They also had higher copper levels. The authors concluded saying the decrease of trace elements, namely magnesium and zinc, and the elevation of copper may significantly contribute to the risk of ADHD or its severity and/or comorbidity High copper levels have long be...en blamed for hyperactivity, lack of focus and increased anxiety, but the important thing to note (and what they substantiated) is that it's more about the ratio of copper to zinc, so in fact the problem has more to due to low zinc not high copper Zinc deficiency is also associated with skin rashes, reduced sense of smell, mood disorders, impaired hair growth, reduced immunity, poor wound healing, erectile dysfunction, and reduced birth weight in babies Strict vegetarians/ vegans, breastfeeding women, people who drink too much alcohol, and people who have a poor diet are at higher risk for zinc deficiency. So are those with certain digestive problems, such as Crohn's disease The Australian RDI for zinc is 3-7mg for children and 8-15 mg for adults Good food sources of zinc are red meat, poultry, oysters, sardines, beans, nuts and seeds

17.01.2022 Hyperactive or Hypothyroid? New research uncovers misdiagnosis of mental illness in children Attention!! Every parent of a child or teenager that has been diagnosed with a mental health condition should be made aware of this new research A large paediatric study, which included 2,480 children aged 10-18yrs diagnosed with hyperthyroidism(Grave’s disease or otherwise), found a clear association between hyperthyroidism and each of the following mental health conditions: ADHD, ...adjustment disorder, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, suicidality What does this mean exactly? It means that if your child or teenager has presented with symptoms of palpitations, weight loss, tremor, distractibility, restlessness, or fatigue they could have been wrongly diagnosed with a mental health condition ...... 13.01.2022 Green tea, undoubtedly the healthiest beverage on the planet It contains less caffeine than coffee, but enough to produce an effect. What caffeine does in the brain is to block an inhibitory brain chemical called Adenosine. This way, it actually increases the firing of neurons and the concentration of brain chemicals like dopamine and norepinephrine It also contains the amino acid L-theanine, which increases the activity of another brain chemical GABA, which has an anti-anxie...ty effect and has been proven to improve memory, focus and attention Not only can green tea improve brain function in the short term, it may also protect your brain in old age and reduce risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease Lastly, it has also been proven to reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes by helping to decrease weight and improve blood sugar regulation
10.01.2022 I hope everyone’s doing ok out there xo taken by @jessicatremp at the peak of summer, when we were still allowed to hug our friends.
09.01.2022 Many thanks to those of you who have reached out and purchased one of my immune essentials packs. As a small business your support does not go unnoticed and for that I am always grateful. The mushroom complex is running low, but I still have a good supply of immune boosting syrups and tinctures. #noneedtopanic https://www.lisahodge.net.au/shop-1
07.01.2022 Morning immune tonic creations @jessicatremp
07.01.2022 As a mother, there's literally nothing worse than spending hours in the kitchen preparing a wholesome meal and your kids turn their nose up Especially when you did your best to add a little bit of nutrition.. but not too much so that it's still tasty for the child's palette. If you're anything like me, you don't even like spaghetti Bolognese 'A La kid style', but now you and your partner either have to eat it or throw it in the compost bin. It's not uncommon for children on t...he autism spectrum and children with learning difficulties to have a restricted palette, eating only white foods (wheat and dairy) There's actually a very good explanation for this. Let me try to break it down for you. Wheat and dairy can basically be like cocaine to these children. I'm not joking, there's research to back it up. Anyone that has seen me as a client knows that I don't follow the trend of restricting foods from the diet without good cause. To remove a particular food or food group from the diet I need to have a good reason for that particular individual sitting in front of me. What's good for one isn't always good for all. However, there is one exception to this rule, and that's for people on the autism spectrum where I generally don't hesitate suggesting the removal of dairy and gluten. Basically, these chemicals break down into structures very similar to opiates and are what's called biologically active, meaning they are absorbed whole. For someone with impaired digestion or intestinal permeability they enter the bloodstream, cross the blood brain barrier, and engage with opiate receptors in the brain having a morphine like effect causing symptoms like: Zoning out Repetitive behaviour Sleep issues Constipation It's a vicious cycle because the opiate effect, like cocaine increases dopamine levels that create an addiction these foods and thus, limited variety of other foods in the diet. Many parents think that their children will starve if they take these foods out, but honestly I've seen it over and over again if gluten and dairy are taken out the child's palate will open up and they are more willing to try new foods. One more thing, they need to be taken out for 6 months to 1 year to see results Any questions, let me know, or if you'd like a handout about how to do this diet change leave your email in the comments and I will forward one to you Pic of chamomile, a wonderful herb for digestion
04.01.2022 I’m self proclaiming today Corona Sunday, a day in the kitchen with copious amounts of garlic. In all honesty, is anyone else stockpiling for the week ahead? I’ve got a vegetarian spaghetti sauce and chicken soup brewing on the stove. How about you?
