16.01.2022 Why Do I Promote Head & Neck Cancer Awareness? Three years ago on World Head & Neck Cancer Day I came back to Chris O’Brien Lifehouse for a 3 week post-op check.... I had no idea it was #WHNCD nor was there any mention in the hospital. From those who have taken time to read my posts since here & on the blog, you will know I had no idea of any cancers related to the head & neck. I certainly was shocked squamous cell carcinoma ( mine) is found on skin inside the mouth. It is a little known yet GROWING cancer in Australia and world wide. Beyond Five where I volunteer as an Ambassador is an organisation with ONE paid employee. One! Some grants & donations help with sharing messages & resource making. Beyond Five is always grateful for support via donations but in the BIG competitive world of illnesses, charities & more, it’s a very small one. Today I’ve shared information & photos to help raise awareness & promote understanding of a cancer group that leaves patients dealing with post diagnosis & treatment scars for life- changed eating methods, inability to communicate & reluctance to venture into the public for any kind of socialisation where eating & drinking happens. Today I share here images from my local Central Coast Head & Neck Cancer Support Group & more. Due to COVID19 we have not gathered together since February. I continue to promote awareness because more people will benefit by the sharing of knowledge & symptoms so early diagnosis of Head & Neck Cancer gives a better chance of survival.

10.01.2022 This month in the lead up to World Head and Neck Cancer Day on 27 July we will be working even harder to raise awareness of head and neck cancer in the general ...public across Australia. You can help by SHARING our early detection messages with friends, family and work colleagues. There are NO screening tests for head and neck cancer, early detection can save lives. It can also mean less invasive treatment and a faster recovery. If you have symptoms for three weeks, don't wait! Book an appointment with your doctor or dentist today. 02.01.2022 "Don't be ashamed to cry, Let me see you through, 'cause I've seen the dark side too." Today is #RUOKDay, and what better day to launch Scrub Choir 2.0, with... over 400 RMH Staff members singing "I'll stand by you" by The Pretenders. Led by Music Therapy Director Dr Emma O'Brien OAM, the Scrub Choir has been an opportunity for staff at the RMH to take a moment out of their busy day, or after a shift on the COVID-19 wards to unwind and reflect. Many people who participated found it a therapeutic experience. Some highlights of this latest instalment include some of our RMH Doctors in a string quartet, Nurse Kathy who leads the song in AUSLAN, and many of our interpreters and nurses sharing their native language. We hope you enjoy our gift to you today. And please, look after yourself. Help and support is available. Please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 for immediate assistance. In an emergency call 000.
