24.01.2022 Humpday Tips Gluteus Medius muscle is the ‘side’ glute muscle. This muscle facilitates hip abduction or (when put simply) moving your leg away from the midline of your body. However functionally this little muscle has a very important role as a pelvis and lower extremity dynamic stabiliser. This means it is crucial in movements where we are momentarily on one foot before transferring weight to the other ie. RUNNING If the Glute Med. is weak you will get compens...ation from other muscles to maintain pelvic stabilisation. These may include lower back muscles and leg muscles specifically ITB or knee adduction (knock knee position). This compensation may cause significant pain and it is only a matter of time before injury occurs. SO STRENGTHEN!! Above we are targeting this muscle with Banded Clams Get in touch today if you would like guidance with your training program #humpday #wednesdaywisdom #injuryprevention See more

19.01.2022 Inversions Such a hot topic of conversation in my Pilates class this morning & online! Let’s look at the headstand - the key is conscious movement: Start with your stable base, elbows wide so you can stack your shoulders directly above Clasp hands around back of head As you come onto your toes lengthen through the legs and FOCUS on drawing your belly button into your spine with hips high... Control the movement, do not use momentum for entry Keeping one leg tucked in allows you to have a stronger center of gravity, start with this entry Resist jumping - engage the core, draw the belly button into the spine to pivot the hips with control to stack on top of your shoulders To progress give the double leg entry a go! By consciously activating your core you are able to stabilise throughout the movement & remain in control. Try your inversions with these cues - would love to hear how you go! #bodyawareness #pilatesinstructor #consciousness #inversion #headstand #pilates #yoga

When doing exercises alone without such guidance, it’s easy to fall back into old patterns of movement that aren’t as beneficial. You might h...abitually bend your knees or elbows for example as it’s ‘easier’.
