23.01.2022 HYPNOSIS AS A POWERFUL PART OF PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY Lisa Cunial is an experienced psychologist who is an expert in hypnosis, and uses it as a powerful option in providing enhanced treatment. "I was interested to see Michael Mosley, on "Trust me Im a Doctor" (SBS series 5 episode 2) discover Hypnosis and the benefits. The main conclusion is that yes it is beneficial in many areas, it is a phenomenon that is measurable and recognisable, and most importantly if you are looking ...for it as a tool for clinical intervention it must be used by a registered professional like psychologist." It is a very useful and powerful tool that I use in the treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, pain management, enhanced relaxation, creating pleasurable experiences, IBS, to mention a few areas. It is used as part of therapy and leads to enhanced treatment results. Anyone who is curious can contact me and discuss. phone 0415 182 577
21.01.2022 Its great to explore exciting areas. Last year I went to Melbourne to develop my training in hypnosis. Ive been using relaxation and mindfulness in interventions for years, and felt it was going beyond, and it was. Into hypnosis. While you may think of hypnosis as something only in the movies, hypnosis is used in real life to help people with depression, gastro-intestinal disorders and other health problems. Because hypnosis can help people manage and, in some cases, recove...r from illness, it is becoming a more common part of treatment plans. Lisas areas of expertise and interest include grief and bereavement, adjustment to life events, challenges, and change; relationship issues such as relationships with partners, friends, colleagues, or family; parenting issues; adolescent issues; drug and alcohol problems; depression and other mood difficulties; stress management and life balance; and anxiety and anxiety disorders. Hypnosis can extend theraputic interventions in these areas to increase potentacy. Hypnosis is also a really pleasureable experience, so immediately counters depression, lack of enjoyment and anxiety. Lisa offers hypnosis for a range of issues such as changing habits, relaxation, sleep, pain, stress management, and general wellbeing. As a psychologist she is well qualified to use hypnosis appropriately, in the context of a broader and comprehensive therapeutic approach. This means that she can assess whether hypnosis is warranted for a particular person or issue, and can advise on helpful combinations of hypnosis and other therapies
19.01.2022 Today is Womans Day, being a woman in todays modern society can take everything we have, and its is often dificult to understand the pressures of modern society, mixed with older urges and needs of the female body and the effects on a woman. It is special being a woman and it is special to have women in our lives. Unique understanding is gained by openly listening, lots of love and safety in all the vunerabilities this brings up in such a diverse group. Life and thoughts are mostly irrational, so understanding can open many doors to closer relationships with ourselves and others.

It is a form of control and easily abused. on a bright note - there is a fantastically available and free way to access many introduction type courses for interest, ...basic learning in a many areas offered by Australian Universities. Have a look and a try. The program is well designed and so accessible. I think it is fun. Im doing a few myself. https://www.open2study.com/

13.01.2022 Learning is the best thing we can do, absolutely. Learning means we make new connections in our brain and whole neural networks. If we dont use it we lose it and new learning is using it. Specially designed learning can assist with brain rehabilitation and mood management.
13.01.2022 There is headlines about the Anorexia help line not recieving funding to continue next year. Anorexia and any eating that is problematic responds to treatment. Food is such an enjoyable and wonderful thing. Yet it can easily become a nightmare. We all need food, but the relationship with it is easily disrupted. Anorexia is a quiet but can be deadly condition that really seems so difficult to manage, as many anxiety based disorders are. However, it is possible with cognitive b...ehavioural techniques to tease out this difficult relationship that has developed with food. Using tools, that are sometime counterintuitive, it is possible to change the relationship with food, to aim for a vital, meaningful and satisfying life. Any poor relationship with food can be treated. This includes: over eating, automatic eating, eating foods that have poor or no nutrients, eating a restricted number or amount of food, even some intolerances as these can be an inflammatory or perception based evaluation. The difficult relationship starts with control, to get control over something is a satisfing achievement, however when used to deal with difficult emotions, control becomes a problem. Anorexia is disorder that starts with using control over food, but as the difficult emotions continue, more control is resorted to. But as perceptions become distorted about our bodies, control is continued to the point of starvation. Even if adequate food is eaten the amount of energy and time used to control the eating can mean the person and loved ones lose out on other aspects of life. If you or someone you know has any of these, it is possible with respectful, experienced and normal treatment to improve. good nutrition is the basis for good Physical and Mental Health. We all deserve to have the best possible.
12.01.2022 Headlines today state that girls and womens rate of suicide are sharply increasing. What a great area of concern. The feeling of wanting all the awful feelings to stop is not uncommon. It is so important to understand that these feelings need to be achnowledged and action taken to learn not to believe or act on them. Learning to protect and acting on values, not hiding and pretending there is not a problem. Use any resourses to get real help.
08.01.2022 Sleep Better, Be Better..... put it simple, Poor sleep is a major risk factor for Mood Disorders also obesity, diabetes, and immune dysfunction. The importance of sleep cant be understated. Women typically report poorer quality and disrupted sleep, and this is associated with higher levels of depression and other illnesses. Often men sleep less, work more. ... Teenagers suffer difficulties, especially with mobile phones and computers. It is estimates that 70% of teenagers are chronically sleep deprived and that a change of school time to a later time in one state of America, saved 30% of car fatalities. This was because teenagers got more sleep. This had more of an impact than seatbelts or drink driving programs. Young people die in cars because of sleep deprivation leading to fatigue. 24 hours from waking is like being .5 over the limit. Sleep medication does not promote sleep health. It is by education and changing our habits, attitudes and behaviours that can improve sleep. Especially as there is lots of myths and misconceptions about sleep. When I work individually with people it is part of treatment to assess sleep and if it is identified that better sleep is a goal, a tailored program of intervention will ensure the best possible outcome.

01.01.2022 Making decisions about anything in life can be hit and miss. We often have absorbed "rules" that we use. These can make us feel like we are making the right decision. But more and more, rules dont serve us well. Especially when they are made by people who are nothing like us, or do not have the same situation, needs or demands. They often leave us making decisions that dont fit us or the world we live in. They are just not flexible enough. Just abandoning rules and having n...othing to base decisions on is also problematic, as we are left high and dry, or heading in ways that dont satisfy or we end up with just as bad or worse decisions. Using feelings to make decisions also can be a problem as they change, are based on a very small perception of the world, and there is no guarantee that feelings lead us in a direction that actually helps the feeling. Trying not feel bad makes things worse. It is important to know our feelings and take them seriously into consideration. So what do we do? How do we make decisions in a rapidly changing complex world? Poor tools leads to stress, anxiety, adjustment issues and poor mental health. One very important tool.......... Identifying and developing VALUES: -then use them to make goals, then behaviours to try to move toward these values. Pursuing well developed values bring satisfaction and meaning to life. Also they act like rudders to get through the storms of life. We may come out of a storm a bit tattered, but it we have a valued direction, we can renavigate, put up sail and find that path that brings us a sense of who we are. Doing work developing values, is really so fundamental. It should not be left to chance, or popular/social media or groups that overlay values on us. There are many ways of working out individual values. Not just adopting someone or a groups value system. They may end up looking similar, but knowing how to do it ourselves is of upmost importance. Many stress and distress conditions can have poorly developed values as a foundation. Learning to develop these can alleviate so much stress and anxiety. Using experiential based exercises to identify and develop values is an important part of the therapy I offer. Please share this if you think this is of any value to help others.
