25.01.2022 Why am I running to be a councillor in this years Yarra Ranges Council election? To improve on our wellbeing which in-turn will promote community spirit/pride. To give everyone in our community a clear voice in council deliberation/decisions and to provide a fresh perspective. What expertise or attributes do I have to undertake the role of Councillor? I can understand legislation, analyse and problem solve, work as part of a team and communicate effectively. I am inclusive, r...esponsive, effective and responsible. What is my vision for Yarra Ranges Shire? * Safer and secure neighbourhoods * Strong and sustainable economic environment * Quality and affordable public services/housing for all. * Healthy environment for future generations by encouraging environmentally friendly practices. 11.01.2022 Happy to be approached by Mt Evelyn Community website to provide some further details about myself. Follow the link to learn about my vision, the expertise/attributes which I can bring to the role and a little bit of background info about me. http://www.mt-evelyn.net/council-elections-2020/ Candidate statements as part of the ballot pack will be mailed out between October 6 to 8 2020.
10.01.2022 This October event is to raise mental health awareness. I have chosen the virtual event to participate from Victoria. According to a Royal Commission in 2017 into Victoria's Mental Health System, Yarra Ranges Shire "has some of the poorest mental health statistics in Victoria". I will copy a link to a brief by Yarra Ranges Council in the comments. It outlines this situation and what has been endorsed in 2019 by our council regarding the matter. https://www.walkforawareness.org.au/

03.01.2022 Invited to the MESCH Inc committee zoom meeting last night, I was first off the rank to speak about my position regarding the Mt Evelyn Recreation Reserve, Clubs and the re-development of the Pavillion. I like the community to know that I support any improvements to the reserve, such as the installation of a second netball training area for winter use. The Clubs, I am excited to see so many young people playing a sport, many of whom are girls which play football. I understan...d from a recent article in the Mt Evelyn Mail (2020) that the cricket club has just formed a full girls team. This is also fantastic, for the club is on its way to having female cricketers in all age groups. The re-development of the new pavilion - the plans seems to tick all the boxes of the AFL and Cricket Australia set of guidelines. I consider it a fantastic achievement to be able to get grants from both the Federal and State government for this project. Any further financial support to maintain a high-quality sporting Pavillion, to improve the grounds will be of great benefit. It will increase membership numbers, bring more sport spectators, help our local economy and allow for all members of these clubs to most importantly enjoy themselves. 02.01.2022 What is a good councillor? The Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) Campaign Tool Kit outlines what is a good councillor and suggests that its not one ...who is consistently re-elected" or one who is always in the local paper" (VLGA 2020, p.11). But rather a good councillor is one who is "willing to listen and get things done (VLGA 2020, p.11). I believe this describes me, that I, Lisa Di Battista if elected will be a good councillor for Billanook Ward. See more
