24.01.2022 ‘National Threatened Species Day’ Across the country on September 7th we raise awareness about the the plants and animals at risk of extinction... The Tasmanian Devil is the world's largest carnivorous marsupial, reaching 30 inches in length and weighing up to 26 pounds.... It’s oversize head houses sharp teeth and strong, muscular jaws that can deliver one of the most powerful bites of any mammal. Once abundant throughout Australia, Tassie Devils are now only found in Tasmania. A catastrophic illness called devil facial tumour disease (DFTD) discovered in the mid-1990s has killed tens of thousands of Tasmanian Devils. This rapidly spreading condition is a rare contagious cancer that causes large lumps to form around the animal's mouth and head. Tasmania’s devil population has plummeted from 140,000 to as few as 20,000, and the species is now classified as endangered. It’s important to support any organisation involved in the protection of our native flora and fauna. 24.01.2022 Goolwa Art & Photographic Exhibition The wait is over! The Goolwa Art & Photographic Exhibition starts tomorrow! After a delay due to COVID (2020 was postponed) I’m so excited to be included amongst a selection of local and interstate artists showcasing a few pieces of my work at this amazing event.... . The exhibition is open from Saturday 27th March through to Monday 5th April at the Signal Point Gallery, Goolwa. . Open daily - 9:30am to 4:30pm (including Easter) . Over Easter there will be Artists in Residence every day displaying their artistic skills and in the theatrette you can go on a photo journey with images from Australia & USA. . 17.01.2022 ‘Wish Upon a Star’ Another capture from the ‘Night Under the Stars’ workshop on Friday 13th with @godwardphotography @lindsaypoland @diamondscamera @jeddobre ... a moment of luck when the clouds cleared and we witnessed a shooting star! Did you know these amazing streaks of light are not stars at all?...They are caused by tiny bits of dust and rock (called meteoroids) falling into the Earth’s atmosphere and burning up.... 13.01.2022 ‘Showered in Stars’ Each night the moon kisses secretly the lover who counts the stars... Thought I’d try a star trail at the marina @cruisingyachtclubofsa on NYE. This was a series of shorter continuous exposures (total time 18 minutes) using the Live Composite mode on my Olympus M1X. 09.01.2022 ‘Anisoptera’ I read, in most cultures, the dragonfly symbolises wisdom, change, transformation, light and adaptability in life... but I have always wondered why they appear to hover by the water, dipping just their tails in every so often. Well, did you know they are actually laying eggs?... Dragonflies lay their eggs in water, or on plants that grow in water. They hatch into nymphs, which will eventually metamorphosize into adult dragonflies and leave the water. Their scientific name is ‘Anisoptera’, which my Greek friends will know () means ‘unequal’ ‘wing’, because their hindwing is broader than their forewing. Caught this female laying various eggs about the Torrens River at Linear Park recently... Fascinating Friday Facts! 07.01.2022 ‘Willing the clouds away’ Where there’s a Will there’s a way! Hmmm... these puns are getting worse ... Making the most of the astro photography workshop whilst waiting for the cloud (or ‘willing’ it) to disappear, we had a play with light and introducing subjects.
