25.01.2022 Spring colours are likely to find their way into my artwork, I suspect. Wildflowers including Parrot-pea, Sun-orchids and Bulbine Lily. #wildflowers #flora #flowers #colour #spring #springcolours #orchid #inspiration

23.01.2022 I don’t know how to express my thoughts on all of the fundamental arts organisations which nurture Australian artists and Australian stories losing funding, and the funding being ripped away from the arts in general. In hard times, it is the arts which get us through - music, poetry, literature, theatre, cinema - there is no longer a Minister for Arts and the portfolio is lumped in with roads and transport. It defies logic and it defies that sense of magic and wonder which we so desperately need in our lives. La Mama is just one example -I heard that 60 arts organisations are going to lose funding. We need to preserve our Australian voice, our Australian stories. In this world of corporatised blockbusters imported from elsewhere, and streaming services such as Netflix and others, we risk losing this precious thing.

10.01.2022 Continuing the review of new art forms I explored in 2019, Eco-dying was a surprise pleasure. This beginners workshop was run by Irene Pagram from Colac as part of the Art In Dereel workshop program. Combined with an introduction to felting, by Jane Bear, also from Colac, this was a full day workshop. I enjoyed the felt making, and was pleased with the felt bowl I created, but the repeated rolling of the wet fibres to make a small square of felt took a toll on me with my recovering spine, so I don't think I will be doing that at home. 07.01.2022 Not a silver bullet: Country Fire Authority's chief fire officer Steve Warrington calls for calm discussion around the "emotional" issue of fuel reduction burns.... "Some of the hysteria that this will be the solution to all our problems is really just quite an emotional load of rubbish, to be honest," he said.

06.01.2022 Over the last 18 months I have been enjoying intuitive painting because it feels so energetic and taps right into my immediate response to colours and textures. This article by Carol Z Brody explains her intuitive process with watercolours so clearly. Worth a read if this idea appeals to you. https://www.artistsnetwork.com//intuitive-painting-lends/

05.01.2022 See Vivien’s work in Dereel : Venue 13, Golden Plains Community Arts Trail

05.01.2022 At the end of 2018 I had extensive surgery on my spine, which meant I could not bend to take macro photographs of wildflowers: the basis of my digital art. Nor could I use the computer to create surface design patterns for fabric and scarves. Thankfully I am part of an arty community. I spent time with friends, just chatting and drawing.
