This year’s topical theme, ‘Saving our Rainforests from Fire’ is very relevant for our communities along the north coast. The feature of this year’s event is two online panel discussions facilitated by well-known ABC journalists Kerry O’Brien and Mick O’Regan. The first panel will discuss the impacts of the fires on our rainforests and the lessons learnt. The second panel will focus on what on-ground actions should be pursued and how bushfire management should be improved to minimise the impacts of future major bushfires on our rainforests. SHARED POST On the 24th November, the Lismore Girl Guide unit is hosting a Female Trades night from 5:30 - 7:30 at their hall in Magellan Street. They are aiming to have 4 women in Trades to talk to the Guides and possibly give a small demonstration to the 9 girls in the unit who are aged from 10 to 14. You are welcome to come early to set up if needed, but please let me know. ... Basic things to cover - What do you do? - Why you like it? - How did you get into your trade? - Question time - This is optional...Show and tell which could lead into a demo that the girls could try. Not overly complex but something you do on a daily basis and is easy enough to understand and for the girls to have a go. As I said this is optional, but encouraged as it may excite, inspire and could lead to a life skill or a future career goal. **Has to be safe, covid conscious with appropriate PPE, which I’m happy to discuss, as to how it can be organised ** We are hoping each Tradeswomen to have 15 - 25min depending on what you’d like to say, do and/or show. 08.01.2022 WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU We are asking for community feedback to help guide the future of waste management and recycling in Lismore, its villages and rural area...s. Waste management is a key service provided by Council and a major component of our annual budget. We have been a leader in waste management for some time. However, there has recently been multiple changes in the waste industry such as the introduction of China’s National Sword Policy and the Federal Government’s waste ban, compliance costs associated with EPA levies, licence conditions guidelines, together with our own on-site fire, that we must respond too. Council has developed a Discussion Paper to help the community understand the broader issues and challenges facing the waste and recycling industry. We are asking people to read the Discussion Paper and complete an online waste survey. The Discussion Paper and waste survey can be accessed via Council’s community engagement hub at www.yoursay.lismore.nsw.gov.au. The survey is open until 4 December 2020.

This is a NSW Government funded project to help provide COVID safe spaces for people to sit and relax in the CBD and help connect the green spaces throughout our city centre. Over the last few months LCCI has been actively representing the needs of our members and business operators in the CBD in workshops with @fourfold.studio alongside other community members, organisations including @redinc_official @the_back_alley_gallery and more plus other local business operators. These workshops have been a collaborative approach to help guide the design team of the Lismo...re Laneways Project. The aim? To co create and achieve the maximum outcomes from NSW Government grant funding for business, events and activations, broad and inclusive community accessibility, arts and culture, much needed infrastructure and face lift. To begin to give our city a streetscape worthy of a regional capital and a drawcard for locals and visitors. Now its time to have YOUR SAY on the design, its impacts for you, your individual business and help finalise a solution which reflects the progressive, innovative and economically sustainable community we want to have.
