22.01.2022 Here’s Molly Darvall, who visited yesterday with her sister Nichola, and is the subject of this work. Amazingly, Molly is only in Year 12, and this work was selected for Art Express but Molly decided to include it in the Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize once it was accepted as a finalist. MOLLY DARVALL Lives and works in Kyogle, NSW Fly with me... (Nichola Darvall) 2020 oil on wood NFS The relationship between humans and the natural world is a delicate gesture, distinguishing a tender mutuality and mental discord, that coexists seamlessly in nature. Capturing the essence of my little sister in fluttered emotions extends our needs to confide and disguise our emotions in youth culture. She is freed and enlightened, however, protected by the realities of perception which are hindered by teenage insecurities. Through her portrayal, I come to understand the complexities of relationships, emotions and even the environment, the process of necessary healing revealing the subtleties and resonances of an emotional state between natural elements. @mollydarvall #hurfordhardwoodportraitprize
