25.01.2022 So we asked our Educating Rita characters Rita and Frank how they’ve managed the Covid19 lockdown. Their responses give us a glimpse of their home lives. Here’s what Frank told us: ‘Well, there is nothing as good as a lockdown for me to indulge my true passion: drinking. But then they had to come up with a way to teach university over the internet. I'm not a technician, I'm a bloody Arts lecturer! I'll be glad to get out of the house again, Julia has been nagging me about m...y drinking the whole time. Bloody irritating, I can tell you.‘ Like Frank (Gray Wilson), we are pleased to be back too! See www.lismoretheatrecompany.org.au for a link to bookings
24.01.2022 A huge shout out to our Rita (aka Elyse Dallinger) on her birthday! Isn’t she fabulous!! (Photo by Richard Johnson) Bookings for Educating Rita are open (shows over three weekends from Feb 12)- www.Lismoretheatrecompany.org.au
21.01.2022 From our long time member Gray Wilson: Friends and supporters of our marvelous theatre family, it is with great regret that I inform you our semi regular stalwart of the LTC, Annabelle Crow passed yesterday morning. With more than 25 years of involvement in our Company, she performed many shows with us a dependable and reliable performer who always gave her best, she would regularly step in when someone else had to drop out. She was a little notorious for always trying to sn...eak a glass of wine backstage... when times, rules and restrictions were a little different. She had a great sense of timing, an endless capacity for fun and generosity, and a ruthlessly ascerbic tongue when required (as she interpreted it.) There is no doubt she could at times be a bit difficult, but there is no question about her love for our community, including our theatre. Follow this post for information on her wake/party/funeral - probably in Dunoon. But if I can, I will organise an LTC gathering in her honour as well. You will be missed far more, and by so many more than you could ever accept or imagine. Vale Annabelle. See more
20.01.2022 As you’ll see from our last post, Charles Derek is moving interstate so we are remembering his LTC stage appearances. If you have a photo or memory, we’d love you to share it with us. This one is from our recent filmed rehearsed reading of MACBETH- interestingly, this play was Derek’s first theatre experience with us back in 2002 too.
18.01.2022 GOBO Tech Australia did an amazing job supplying all the #wemakeevents GOBO's to participating Australian businesses and venues free of charge. 13.01.2022 It’s the first Wednesday of the month so that means it’s LTC committee meeting night. Lots to discuss about programming, grant applications, maintenance and more.
11.01.2022 Today is the day! Tonight LTC joins thousands of venues across Australia and around the world to bring attention to the plight of the live events industry.
10.01.2022 It’s been a huge week for our Rita (Elyse Dallinger) so we hope she can put her feet up over Christmas and read a bit of TS Eliot (or will she read Ruby Fruit Jungle again?)
09.01.2022 Thanks to editor Angela Bettess for including our article about our rehearsed reading of MACBETH in the latest From the Bower. The reading was filmed and is now on YouTube. https://fromthebower.net.au/1066-2/
04.01.2022 Tonight LTC joins a global campaign to raise awareness and appeal for assistance to survive the affects from the pandemic Covid-19. Unfortunately LTC like most venues across Australia and around the world aren't financially able to operate under social distancing restrictions so must remain closed. It simply costs more to open than we could make from a 20% capacity. We hope through the We Make Events movement governments will start to support the live event industry before it...'s too late. You can help LTC survive through this period by making donations here. https://www.trybooking.com/au/donate/ltc #wemakeevents #lightitinred #WeMakeEventsAus #gobotech #communitytheatre #volunteers #yourLTC
04.01.2022 LTC is in some good company tonight going RED with both venues and production companies experiencing the full affects of Covid Shutdown.
03.01.2022 COVID-19 has hit our community theatre hard, like many other arts organisations. As a result of the lockdown, we had to postpone our opening show for 2020 and cancel the rest of our 2020 season. This was devastating for our theatre family. We have not been able to use our theatre, to perform or rehearse, or for our actors to hone their skills. As a result, we decided to provide our actors with a safe, socially distanced acting exercise, by staging a filmed, rehearsed reading... of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, in conjunction with the Star Court Theatre, Lismore NSW. To watch this rehearsed read, click on the following link to our YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/uD_PKguIXZA To help keep LTC alive and thriving, you can support us at https://www.trybooking.com/au/donate/ltc.
03.01.2022 This afternoon (in the air conditioned comfort of our Rochdale Theatre) some of the members met to farewell Charles Derek who is leaving us to live in Adelaide. Derek joined our theatre company in 2002 when he played Lennox in Macbeth, his first ever stage role. The year before he’d auditioned for a TAFE theatre course performing a soliloquy from Hamlet. He was successful as ‘by far the oldest in the course’ he said. Previously, Derek had joined a community choir, performin...g at City Hall and told us ‘I rather liked this being on stage but I wasn’t much of a singer’ Derek left school in the UK at 15 to work on a farm that he described as ‘slave labour’ and left to become a laboratory technician. His boss encouraged him to study for his matriculation in maths and science at evening classes by saying ‘write it down until it sticks’ - advice that later helped him learn his theatre lines. Derek has played numerous roles in his 18 years at LTC and has appeared in several short films. When asked his typical roles, Derek said ‘I can play sleazy’ to which Sharon Brodie, LTC President, added ‘He plays a mean villain’. Derek says that in his background reading, he came to understand that ‘inside you are all these possible characters - not only Jesus Christ but also Hitler’. Derek’s favourite roles at LTC include Judge Brack in Hedda Gabler, a husband in Fallen Angels and a doddery old man with a mysterious past in Influence. Other LTC members commented ‘Derek always says please and thank you- that’s so much appreciated back stage’ ‘Derek’s ability to know his lines was awe inspiring’ ‘His station in the dressing room was meticulous’ ‘Derek helped me learn lines at a difficult time by bringing me rosemary oil and practising over and over with me’ Derek attributes his attention to detail and meticulous way of working to his years as a science researcher at University of Queensland. When playing an irritable Welshman, he listened to numerous recordings and even sent a tape via a friend to someone in Wales to record particular words in the script. Derek thinks his stage performing years have ended, saying that the physical demands of late nights have become too difficult. BUT he thinks Adelaide winters could see him visiting our area- perhaps we can persuade him back on stage again then...... .....meanwhile thank you Derek, we will miss you. See more
01.01.2022 It’s the final rehearsal of Educating Rita before the Christmas break and poor Frank (Gray Wilson) is not liking the humidity- we quickly put the aircon on to avoid any excitement! You can book for Rita at www.lismoretheatrecompany.org.au for three weekends of shows starting Feb 12.
