12.01.2022 School holidays are here! With many people, children and parents and grandparents as well as teachers and other school staff, having their regular routine altered by the arrival of school holidays, these tend to be quieter times for appointment bookings. Office hours are therefore reduced during these weeks, with Elizabeth, Tracy and Ann Maree taking the opportunity for a few days of Leave at various times. ... But don’t worry, we won’t be far away.

11.01.2022 With lots of information online about psychologists, how do you know if a psychologist is qualified? Well, the simple answer is that the term "psychologist" is a protected title under National Law, and can only be used by somebody who holds current registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. There are 3 levels of registration:... - General Registration: standard full registration for practising psychologists in Australia. - Provisional Registration: temporary registration for psychologists who have completed their university training and are finalising further training during a period of supervised practice. - Non-practising Registration: for those not currently practising, such as when on extended leave. Some psychologists will also be members of professional organisations such as the Australian Psychological Society (APS) or Australian Association of Psychologists Incorporated (AAPi), with such memberships open to any psychologist who chooses to join ... although there can be different levels of membership for various reasons. If in doubt, you can confirm that a psychologist is registered at the Psychology Board of Australia website: https://www.psychologyboard.gov.au/

08.01.2022 The report from the Mental Health Reference Group is out!! You may or may not have noticed some news articles about changes to Medicare for psychology. It's worth noting that these are about recommendations and not policy at this stage. In June 2018 a 21-member Mental Health Reference Group was formed to review the mental health items of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and report back to the MBS Review Taskforce with their recommendations.... This report is now available, and details are due in March for how stakeholders, consumers and the general public can provide feedback to the Taskforce for consideration. * Headlines aside, Medicare isn't for "10 free sessions". The Medicare rebate is set as a percentage of the government's determined minimum fee, and is intended to help with making access to services more affordable. A psychologist who Bulk Bills an appointment is providing a significant discount. http://www.health.gov.au//publis/Content/MBSR-pcrg-consult

06.01.2022 Belly Breathe with Elmo to calm your inner monster. Feel your belly move in and out... - feel your belly move out when you breathe in, feel your belly move in when you breathe out, so that you know you’re breathing from your diaphragm and making most effective use of those lungs. ... Or just sing along with Elmo.

04.01.2022 Details of the government’s emergency funding for mental health for those affected by the bushfires continue to emerge, especially as meetings with provider organisations clarify the details around access and eligibility. Note that there are a number of avenues receiving the funds to provide support, one of which is the ability to access the Medicare system for psychologists and others in private practice as is done currently but with the sessions in addition to the usual 10... session limit and without the usual referral process being required. Eligibility for support is also based upon having been affected, and is not limited to those directly affected by personal loss. Details are attached, but if you believe that the bushfires have affected you or someone you know even though you weren’t in one of the devastated areas, check to see - you may be eligible for support based on things such as the impact of the intensive media coverage. https://www.health.gov.au//mental-health-support-for-austr
