25.01.2022 We are excited to announce that we will be providing 5,000 children who are supported by The Smith Family with access to LiteracyPlanet for 12 months. Did you know, 1 in 6 children in Australia currently live in poverty? The children The Smith Family support often face significant disadvantages and for some, every day is a struggle. We acknowledge how it might be extra difficult for these families during the impact of COVID-19. Often these children don’t have the resource...s at home to participate fully in remote learning. Which is why LiteracyPlanet is excited to support The Smith Family with its comprehensive literacy program!

23.01.2022 Happy #InternationalLiteracyDay! This has been a UNESCO initiative since 1966, in efforts to fight illiteracy. Literacy is a fundamental human right and the foundation for lifelong learning. It is fully essential to social and human development in its ability to transform lives as UNESCO states. It’s more important than ever to highlight the importance of improving literacy during this challenging time as educators, parents and students grapple with remote learning challen...ges. Some interesting global statistics: 773 million adults and young people lack basic literacy skills; 617 million children and adolescents are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics; During the initial phase of the pandemic, schools were closed disrupting the education of 62.3 per cent of the world’s student population of 1.09 billion; Adult literacy and education were absent in initial education response plans, therefore many youth and adults with no or low literacy skills have had limited access to life-saving information. Learn more about this movement here: https://www.un.org/en/observances/literacy-day and join us in celebrating #InternationalLiteracyDay!
