25.01.2022 Something we are working on for Year 12s...
24.01.2022 It's HSC trial time in NSW. These prompts will help to get higher level responses from Year 12 students for Paper One.
23.01.2022 A great writing project we are working on - bringing the James Wood story to a wider audience. Totally inspiring.
23.01.2022 All good writing creates wonderful, emotionally engaging images. When Year 12 students write fabulous imaginative pieces, they can use elements in a discursive or persuasive. Using the great work of a dear student who shared his experiences of being out on his Grandparent's farm, we created a beautiful imaginative piece, inspired by The Surfer. I then showed him how to turn his great work into a discursive. Good writing is never wasted and should never be left around, not being read or heard.
23.01.2022 And here we go. Stage two. Blue skies ahead. Teach the teachers and anyone else interested is learning how to write. Coming to webinars and audiences near you in 2021!
22.01.2022 Hi to all our new community members! If there are resources you need - let us know - we can help! Here's another exercise that will help students write better emotionally charged imaginatives. It also helps with Texts and Human Experiences....... Good writing discusses the range of human emotions - typically two opposing emotions.
21.01.2022 Amplify your writing immediately - use verbs! True in all types of writing. Verbs work so hard and create brilliant images and action.
20.01.2022 A lightbulb moment! Talking all things diversity and inclusion - making schools more friendly to all
20.01.2022 For unseen texts: teach students to look for contrasting worlds, images and feelings in the one text. Hopefully this graphic will help...
17.01.2022 Surprise, surprise... What we have been saying for years... Learning to write is very hard. ... Teaching how to write is hard too - teachers are not taught how to at university...there has not been a lot of international research in how to teach high school students how to write effectively... Some schools are brilliant at teaching how to write - Loreto Normanhurst, Abbotsleigh, Turramurra High. Some curriculum authorities - Queensland and Victoria but so many kids miss out. So many young people do not have outstanding modelling and opportunities to learn that writing is a process of mistakes, review, thinking, synthesis, changing, rewriting and rewriting. This is why we wrote our books - we wanted to help fill in the gaps... https://www.smh.com.au//students-struggle-as-review-finds-
17.01.2022 Listen to the clinking laughter of delighted children.
17.01.2022 In case you were wondering why teaching writing is something of a challenge...in addition to considering spelling, sentence construction, grammar and paragraphing and articulating concepts such as justice, betrayal, love and disappointment and why nature matters....
15.01.2022 Mesmerising. Powerful. Brilliant.
14.01.2022 We are amazed at the quality of responses this scaffold produces. Good writing needs good support.

11.01.2022 Fantastic, and funny - a great resource for helping young people write fantastic stories.
10.01.2022 Great writing is emotionally precise and specific - like this...this is what we are aiming for in imaginative, persuasive and discursive....
09.01.2022 And more evidence of the poor state of writing in NSW.... https://www.smh.com.au//half-of-nsw-teachers-say-they-were
08.01.2022 I think we are on the cusp of a new Zeitgeist... fantastic article to include in a discursive....
04.01.2022 It’s all about composing your story today - learning to write about conflicting feelings and ethical dilemmas - how would you go?
03.01.2022 T'is the season for young people to write discursives...these resources will help.
02.01.2022 When talking about motifs...and why they are effective...these will help.
01.01.2022 If you have an HSC student in your house, this scaffold will help them structure their responses to the short answer section of the Common Module paper.
01.01.2022 Wow! Just posted this on some teacher Facebook groups and it has gone off! This helps students write higher level responses. The look of satisfaction on their faces when they bring together all the parts is why we teach. If anyone would like a PDF of this post - please email [email protected] We have received requests from teachers all over the state and it has been fantastic to be able to assist.
