19.01.2022 CONSERVATION & PRESERVATION One of the Society’s most recent donations is a collection of receipts, invoices and customer orders belonging to Josiah Holt who operated a store in Hartley in the late 1860s. These items had sat on a metal spike in one of the sheds on the property for many years prior to donation to the Society. Among these are handwritten receipts signed by Andrew Brown for the yearly rent of the farm from 1862 to 1867. ... The Society has been privileged to have access to the skills of Preventative Conservation Consultant and Educator, Tegan Anthes, through the Museums Advisor Program, funded by Museums a & Galleries NSW. Tegan has been demonstrating the correct method of brush cleaning and repairing these fragile pieces of paper to ensure that they are stored in the best possible condition. The Society is thankful for the support of the Lithgow City Council in coordinating the Museums Advisor Program in this area. Tegan will continue in this role for the next twelve months, working with our Society as well as Eskbank House Museum, Lithgow Library & Learning Centre, Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum and Lithgow State Mine Museum. 13.01.2022 As the Sun set in the Sky last night 18th October 2020, the universe gained another flickering star. Violet Thelma Draper, Born 10/7/1928 known as Thelma, Thel...ly, Mum, Mother Dear, Grandma, or Aunty Thel took her last breath whilst sleeping after a wonderful life of being the fourth born child out of 10 for Lila and Herbert Keegan, Aunty, Great Aunty and Great Great Aunty to her sibling's children, Wife to Norman, Mother to Ronald, Colin (deceased), Anne, Graeme and Jefferey. Grandma to 13 Grandchildren and Great Grandma to 7 Great Grandchildren. She had no more lessons to teach or love to give. An excellent community servant through organisations such as Scouts, LINC, Lithgow Family History (Foundation Member) Lithgow View Club and her Political Party, she sat on many a street stall for different organizations to raise money for them. Will be missed and always loved by many <3 Update 20/10/2020 Funeral Details: Friday 23rd October 2020 at 3pm Norwood Park Crematorium Bathurst Bradwardine Road, Bathurst N.S.W Due to Covid Rules we will need people who wish to come to the funeral, to private message me as to numbers coming as we are limited to 100. Please note that only a small number of people are allowed in the chapel and that has been determined. You will be required unfortunately to be outside most likely standing where there will be screens to watch the service. A livestream will be available and a hard copy will eventually be available I am acutely aware of Covid measures and whilst we have not had direct instructions to do so I advise people to wear masks We will not be holding a Wake, as what is necessary for Covid safety was decided to be too onerous and I thank everyone for their understanding. Update 21/10/2020 For those people who cannot physically be with us here is the link to the livestream of the Service. https://streaming.funeralsuite.com.au/e/rAV9ETaB Thanks Jeff

05.01.2022 We have just started loading some newly digitised archives to our catalogue from the early 19th century. These records relate to Aboriginal people and cover the... dates 1832-1835 and 1837-1844. The records are ‘blanket returns’ which are lists of Aboriginal people who received blankets from the colonial authorities. The records are broadly arranged by locality and include both Indigenous and European names for each person as well as their age. These record series are, and always have been, an incredibly valuable source for people tracing family and personal history. http://ow.ly/KRtZ50Cijs9 #NAIDOCweek2020
