Good job teams This morning the squad was activated to reports that a couple of 4wds became in d...istress and needed som assistance. After learning the location of the 4wds the captain and deputy worked with LITHGOW POLICE at the local station making contacts and finding ways to get to them thankfully there was a near by mine with a haul road visible and was able to contact someone with a key to the site. 11.01.2022 ANOTHER BUSH RESCUE TODAY ON THE NEWNES PLATEAU Emergency Services were involved in the search and rescue of 4 missing bushwalkers this afternoon on the Newnes ...Plateau. The group was returning from a walk to Rocky Creek Canyon when they missed their exit. Exhausted and having run out of water the group activated an EPIRB. Police Rescue, Lithgow VRA and NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called into action at around 2:30pm. The Rescue 209 helicopter located the bushwalkers, and after a short refuelling stop in Bathurst, returned to winch the group to safety. The chopper landed on Glow Worm Tunnel Rd near Deep Pass Rd where the group was assessed by Paramedics. The 4 apparently declined transport to hospital for any further treatment. 11.01.2022 CANYONERS LOST OVERNIGHT ON THE NEWNES PLATEAU Seven canyoners have been led to safety this morning after spending last night out in the open on the Newnes Plat...eau. The group, consisting of people from Sydney & Melbourne, lost their way late yesterday returning from an expedition to Rocky Creek Canyon on Galah Mountain on the Newnes Plateau. They were attempting to return to the carpark when they mistakenly took the wrong track. A search for the canyoners commenced this morning involving Lithgow VRA and Lithgow Police, together with the Police helicopter Polair. At around 11:00am both parties came together, with Lithgow VRA leading them out to safety. Despite overnight temperatures falling to just 6 degrees, the well-prepared group was in high spirits upon their return. 2 of the 7 were assessed on scene by Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries, however all in the party were able to leave the scene shortly after.
