16.01.2022 This week staff from the Lithgow Railway Workshop completed the overhaul of the second bogie under BE 346. After a number of weeks of being striped down and refurbished the bogie was put back together and signed off. The carraige out of the shed into the yard to enable it to be lifted by Henrys cranes. The bogie was placed back under it and now waits for the call to start a new chapter of its life in service with LSMR. Another first class job performed by the staff from LRW.
16.01.2022 On Monday 31/10 LSMR and LRW were pleased to host a visit to the Workshop by Katie Brassil Executive General Manager External Affairs and James Marshall Group Manager Stakeholder Engagement for Centennial Coal. The pair were shown around the workshop by Tim Elderton LRW Director and were accompanied by members of the LSMR Board Executive. We were delighted to show both Katie and James the work LRW undertakes for SSR and indirectly Centennial Coal on its coal wagons. They were particularly keen to see how LRW and SSR supports the endeavours of LSMR as it prepares to provided the community with a tourist railway in the Lithgow valley.

14.01.2022 The Workshop is playing host to some RailCorp ballast wagons which are in for bogie overhaul. This work is normally undertaken at Eskbank but because of the coal wagon conversions taking place there the ballast wagon work has been transfered to the LRW facility at State Mine. The wagons make for an interesting photograph something that hasnt been seen since the mine closed in the early 1960s.
14.01.2022 To say the LRW was busy would be an understament. There are locomotives lined up for services, some for repairs, recommissioning and no less than 4 in for wheel set replacements starting with C504 which commences Monday. Outside work is also underway on servicing Sydney Trains ballast train.
13.01.2022 This week the workshop played host to BGKF 1105 Q which was formally a coal hopper and has now been converted to carry grain. The wagon has undergone all manner of changes including a fibre glass lid which can be removed should the need arise to carry coal again. The wagon came up from Eskbank to undergo a twist test as part of its testing regieme to become accredited. A great collaberative effort from the team at LRW and a great employment creator for Lithgow.

08.01.2022 The first shipment of Southern Aurora cars arrived at the Workshop on Thursday 23/11 and work commenced the following day. The cars will recieve a ground up restoration including holding tanks for the toilets and an internal makeover. Work on all cars is expected to be completed by the 1st quarter of 2018. This is quite a large contract for LRW and shows the Workshop and staff are cabable of all facets of rollingstock restoration and maintenance. This is great news for LRW as it is providing further employment opportunities in the rail service industry and is contributing to Lithgows ecconomy.
08.01.2022 LRW is extremely busy at the moment with the coal wagon conversions happening at Eskbank and Railcorp having their ballast wagons serviced. We see new wheel sets being prepared for installation back into a BRM this week.
08.01.2022 Following on from the story recently reported in the Lithgow Mercury concerning the contract the Lithgow Railway Workshop has been awarded. The contract to convert a large percenatge of the 180 coal wagons recently purchased by SSR from PN into wheat hoppers will be a massive boost for the Workshop and a great opportunity for Lithgow. Already the workshop has had to engage more staff to undertake the project. The scale of the project can be gauged when you look at the photographs of the sea of coal wagons lined up in the top yard ready for processing.
05.01.2022 The workshop has a few visitors this week for various problems to be attended to. there has also been a major reshuffle of equipment in the yard and shed in preparation for a major contract which will keep the workshop humming until mid next year.
03.01.2022 Saturday morning saw RL304 leave the workshop after a week long recommissioning program. The locomotive joins the extensive SSR fleet now roaming the state.
02.01.2022 Obviously looks can be deceptive but there were a few locos at LRW last Friday and a lot of activity at Eskbank Yard.
01.01.2022 LRW is currently running to capacity with a number of locomotives in for servicing, repairs and of course recommissioning in the case of the RLs. This is of course in addition to the wagon maintatnce and coversion work also going on in another part of the system. LRW and SSR are major contributors to the ecconomy of Lithgow.
01.01.2022 Today 25/8 saw one of SSRs C class do some track testing on the recently layed road into the Workshop extension.
