25.01.2022 Did you know the Pet Registration laws have changed? Last year, the NSW government made some changes to the Companion Animals act, specifically around desexing cats and dogs and registration fees. Dogs now have to be desexed by the time they are 6 months of age. If they are desexed after they are 6 months of age, then there is a higher lifetime registration fee. ... For cats it's slightly different again. Cats are now to be desexed by 4 months of age. And if you choose not to desex your cat, then an annual fee will be charged on top of the once off lifetime registration fee. There are some exceptions to every rule, but exemptions must be applied for appropriately before the cat or dog reaches the age limit. The Government has brought these laws in in hopes of fostering more responsible pet ownership and lessening the strain on rescues and city pounds through strays and unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. Have you recently brought a young furry friend home? If so, it might be time to think about booking them in for the desexing! Give the friendly team at Lithgow Vets a call and we can answer your questions or make a booking for you!

21.01.2022 Were starting another Online Puppy Preschool class next week! Our Preschool has three online sessions where we discuss everything from puppy health to puppy behaviour. Well talk about what you should and shouldnt feed your puppy, some training tips and even teach you how to understand your puppys body language. But the fun isnt all for you humans! Luckily, your puppy doesnt have to social distance, so they also get some Puppy Play Dates with their class mates. Drop your puppy off with us and they get a supervised play session where they can have a bit of fun and learn to socialise with other puppies! Our Online Puppy Preschool is run using Zoom. Dont know how to use it? Thats okay, we can walk you through it. All you need is a computer, tablet or smartphone and a reliable internet connection!

19.01.2022 Can you speak your puppys lingo? Getting a new puppy is exciting. But getting to know them as they settle in can be a little challenging at times. Being able to understand your puppy is crucial. If you know what your puppy is feeling in a situation, it will leave you better equipped to deal with it! This is just one of the things that we teach you in our Puppy Preschool classes. What do you think these dogs are feeling?

19.01.2022 What did you think about the body language of the two dogs in yesterdays post? Did you get it right? This is a pretty common picture when two dogs meet for the first time. You might see this when you introduce your puppy to your dog for the first time, or perhaps when you meet another dog out on a walk. Being able to read your puppys body language and see the signs could help you avoid situations where your puppy is scared and likely to lash out through fear (or be lashed ...out at by an uncomfortable dog). It will give you the opportunity to reassure them and and make sure they have good social experiences. This is why we are so passionate about animal behaviour and why we want to pass these skills on to new puppy owners in our Puppy Preschool! Being able to understand your puppy is the key to making sure they live happy, healthy lives!

15.01.2022 Heartworm is a deadly parasite that is spread by mosquitoes. All dogs are at risk, even ones that spend most of their time inside! Just one little bite from an infected mosquito is enough for your dog to get heartworm. They then grow into adult worms in your dogs heart. They are very difficult to kill and they are life-threatening to your pooch! For a limited time, we are offering FREE heartworm testing for any dog that starts on Pro-Heart, a yearly heartworm prevention injection. Call us to make an appointment, or book online! #protectyourpooch

08.01.2022 Cat boarding clients - hello!!!! As many of you are aware we closed the "Purr Inn" at the beginning of COVID due to people not being able to travel, the cattery not being utilized, and because we were unable to have sufficient staff to cover all the weekend shifts. Due to this still being an ongoing issue we have decided to regrettably close the cattery permanently. We are so sorry for those clients that used our boarding regularly.... However, it has allowed us to convert the cattery room into a visiting room for pets during COVID and a room where people can be with their beloved pets as they say their last goodbye. Thanks so much for your understanding. We hope you and your pets all have a wonderful Xmas break.
