24.01.2022 A has been enjoying building with blocks lately and Ive noticed that shes quite skilful at balancing them on uneven looking surfaces. She has been successful at using the tree branch cut off with smooth blocks together and today I was impressed how she could stack heavier wooden blocks on top of a much smaller block without them tumbling over. I knew it reminded me if something Ive seen before, what do you think?

22.01.2022 Whilst matching the sea creature to its mate on the mat, we are not only learning about where they live, but recognising the similarity between the one in her hand the one on the mat. I am encouraging A to vocalise which creature it is and where she thinks it goes, both improving her language and thought process. She even found a donkey in the box of sea creatures and knew that it didnt belong there.

20.01.2022 Today we began using the photos of our families. We started by putting them into a large pile and the children sorted through and picked out their family members. We then looked at each photo and the children told us who they were and were very excited as they were yelling out names. We shared the photos around so we could see each others family members and we could remember some of their names too. Then, we got out our new scrapbooks and drew ourselves and our family members

20.01.2022 Special delivery from The North Pole today. The girls are officially on Santas Nice List and theyve been working extra hard at being good this year.

20.01.2022 Welcome to 2019. It’s going to be another great year with lots of fun, learning and new experiences

19.01.2022 Mmmmmm doughnuts!!!

19.01.2022 Today we tried an experiment. We collected some items and tried to guess if they would sink or float. Sometimes, they did both, either when the water soaked in, or if they filled with water, to make them heavy.

19.01.2022 Santa will be sure to open the door and find the Christmas tree with this magic key

19.01.2022 Our vege garden has been growing well from all the rain. Weve just harvested our first strawberry and our basil is getting bigger and weve got a tiny little capsicum growing

18.01.2022 Play shops with pretend food, cashiers and money are such an excitement for children as they act out being shop assistants and customers. As well as being a great way to encourage interaction and communication, play shops with their pretend money can also help develop numerical skills. In promoting mathematic understanding, play shops are great preparatory aids for pre-school children. The girls put into practice what theyve learned in the real world. They looked for the ...barcode to scan, placed the items in the bags, counted the coins as they took them out of their bags to hand over to the cashier and even said thank you, have a nice day when they left the shop. After we went shopping, we went to the coffee shop where we enjoyed a nice relaxing coffee and cake. We had to be careful because the coffee was very hot. Charli made sure all her groceries were put away in the kitchen when she arrived home. After that was fine, she decided that she was going to make cake and jelly.

18.01.2022 The weather is warm and its water play time.

17.01.2022 Thank you to miss Cs mum for bringing these egg cartons in. This activity is great and involves a refined use of the small muscles which control the hand, fingers and thumb. With the development of these skills, a child is able to complete important tasks such as writing, feeding oneself, buttoning and zippering.

17.01.2022 Fun times together

17.01.2022 C and S have a new baby brother at home and talk about him a lot. They miss him during the day and tell me about how they help look after him. We are looking after our daycare babies today and C invites S to come and visit her baby at the hostipal Playing with dolls holds a great range of benefits for children. It encourages empathy and compassion.......children learn from watching their mum or other mums how to gently care for and be responsible for their baby. It also promotes language and imagination as they act out scenarios with their babies.

15.01.2022 Over the last couple of months weve been growing tomatoes and weve also planted some peas and beans and have watched them sprout. Today we started our very own vege garden and we planted squash, tomatoes, zucchini and capsicum. Next week well add strawberries and cucumber. Also, when the peas and beans have grown bigger, well add them too. We are going to find out how our food is grown and where it comes from, rather than where we buy it. Weve also got an exciting excursion to Woolworths coming up where we can find out so much about our fruits and veges and also do some taste testing. LO2.1, 2.4, 3.2

14.01.2022 Continuing with our family activities, we focused today on our own bodies. We used the cut out pieces of our body parts and placed them onto the template where we thought they belonged. We already knew about arms, legs etc, but stomach was a word we havent used much before. We then coloured in our bodies and added a face, shoes etc

14.01.2022 Vacancy update I currently have a 3-4 day vacancy. If you are looking for family daycare please contact me for details.

13.01.2022 Our new and improved fairy garden

12.01.2022 Out and about in our community this morning with our shopping lists at hand. Today we are making fruit salad and pizza for lunch. We looked for each item on our list and we talked about where we might find them. Are they in the fridge, the shelves or in the freezers? We learned the difference between an orange and a mandarin and that some kiwi fruit were hairy on the outside and some were smooth. We got a lot of positive feedback from people shopping and were given a lot of smiles and "Awwwws". Now we are sitting down with a bickie and are taking about what kind of pizza we are going to make when we get home.

11.01.2022 Did you know that sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste all play an important role in helping our brains develop? Today we had fun making citrus lemonade. We used tongs, spoons, bowls, cups and jugs to stir the fruit and pour into cups to make tea and other special drinks and creations. We could smell the lemons and limes and we tasted the water too and it was yummy but not very yummy. You cant see the water in the bottom, but it was there

10.01.2022 Today we made Easter baskets and after they were dry, we went on an egg hunt and it was a lot of fun running around picking up the bright, colourful eggs. After the hunt, we read a story about going on an egg hunt.

10.01.2022 Our visit to the park this morning. Last week, we washed our babies and their clothes and used pegs to hang them up on the line. Today, we put down a picnic rug to lay our babies down. Each child had their own nappy bag with nappies, wipes, bags, cream, powder, clothes, change mat and a wrap. There were some very lovely moments of the children showing social emotional interactions. This was through talking to each other as fellow parents and talking and singing to, shooshing and cuddling their babies, as well as taking them for walks through the park and helping them on the equipment.

09.01.2022 Cooking with children is a great way to have a positive relationship with food. It shows children how we can use what we have in the fridge and pantry to make a delicious meal, snack or treat without having to go to the shops to buy anything else, as much of our food goes to waste. The conversation that is had throughout this process is priceless and it also allows us to practice our maths skills and is also a fun science experiment as we watch the batter turn into cake.

09.01.2022 Fun times at family daycare

09.01.2022 Today, we have been playing games involving listening to instructions, being patient and waiting our turn. We listened to see how many rabbits we needed in each square and recognised their colours and used our fingers to count them. We didnt go round in a circle taking turns, but instead had to wait to see whos turn it was next. We built towers by taking turns to stack and we picked numbers between us to decide how many blocks were stacked each time. The skills we are learning are patience, being able to remember sequences, building our vocabulary, taking part in activities without distraction and being able to hold that effort long enough to get the task done. After the activity was over, the games were left out and the children were continuing to use them.

08.01.2022 Today at kindy gym we made Indian headdresses. We used our fine motor skills to poke feathers into the tiny holes and also counted them as we went. We then used spray bottles to spray different parts of the faces on the blackboard. We practiced balancing teddy bears on our backs and heads as we climbed, crawled and walked, trying not to let them fall. Did you know that using a spray bottle helps us learn to use scissors and poking feathers into holes is a first step to being able to grip a pencil? There are many things that we do at gym and in care that help us with school readiness. We also learn to take turns, wait in a line and listen to the teacher giving us instructions.

08.01.2022 Free construction selection offered including sticky tape, glue, straws, boxes, cotton balls, containers etc. The children were encouraged to work out whether the sticky tape or the glue was the best to stick the pieces together. We also discovered that if we touched the sticky tape too much, it wouldnt stick properly and sometimes we needed a longer piece. It was also a bit tricky pulling the tape out of the dispenser but we got better at it each time. We made some really cool crocodiles and dinosaurs and a bus.

07.01.2022 C is practicing her cutting skills whilst giving this fella a hair cut

07.01.2022 Today I set up various activity stations that really excited the girls as they moved from each table. What I found most interesting, was that they used some of the activities in different ways and even created new games using the pieces. None of the activities set up had any prior instruction or rules, they were just placed there to see if there were any interest and I watched to see how the girls would interact with them, unintentional play.

05.01.2022 Last week we bought some new penguin figurines and that made us go through our box of wild animals and find all the sea creatures we have. We were able to build an entire scene of marine and land animals. Today, we did another excursion to SeaWorld and discovered a lot of the animals we have at home, in real life. We were lucky to touch star fish and C said they were bumpy and that the sea cucumbers were smooth. We visited stingrays and watched them being fed. We also saw penguins jumping and swimming in the water and the sea lion show. We cant wait to use our sea creatures at home and copy what we saw and experienced today.

03.01.2022 Today we are talking about our feelings and how we make our faces go when we are happy, sad, cranky etc. we started with making pikelets faces, then painted and finished with singing if youre happy and you know it. Next time we will make playdo faces.

03.01.2022 Today we celebrated international Pi Day and made delicious apple pies that we enjoyed with ice cream. We mashed the apples in the bowl and noticed the sweet yummy smell of the cinnamon sugar after we added it. Then it was time to cut the pastry and put into the pie maker and add the apple. We were able to spoon it in ourselves, whilst counting the circles and lids as we went. Baking is a good example of an activity where the end result is as fun as the process. We also l...earn how we can make food, rather then it coming from a packet at the shops. It gets us thinking and gives great opportunity for conversation and language development, as we continuously ask the children what they are doing and how they are doing it (rolling, stirring, tipping etc)

03.01.2022 Another great activity for developing fine motor skills and control. C thought that the container had water in it. I asked the girls if theyd like to taste it and tell me if it was sweet or sour. C said it was sweet and as Charli screwed up her face and shook her head a little, she said it was sour. I said it was vinegar and C said that she saw some in the cupboard at her home. It was a little tricky at first to get the vinegar inside the dropper, so we practised pinching the top, putting it in the vinegar then letting go. Sometimes it filled right up to the top and other times it would just get bubbles inside. C said drip drip drip as she squeezed the vinegar into the lids and Charli said she was so excited as they fizzed.

01.01.2022 Role playing camping is a great learning experience for young children. Weve been talking about camping lately, remembering our Easter holiday. So today we set up our own camping ground, equipped with tent, lantern, fire pit, hammocks and kayaks. The girls had so much fun toasting marshmallows and relaxing in the hammock. C said she was "sailing all around the ocean" and Charli said she was cooking her dinner on the fire.

01.01.2022 Welcome to 2019. Its going to be another great year with lots of fun, learning and new experiences
