23.01.2022 How To Stay Young Youth is not a time of life it is a state of mind. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years, people grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair.....these are the long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust. Whether seventy or sixteen, there is in every being’s heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement... at the stars and the starlike things and thoughts, the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing childlike appetite for what is next and the joy and game of life. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt, as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear, as young as your hope and as old as your despair. See more

22.01.2022 Sadly, as you may be aware, many of our young people are doing it really tough at the moment due to the loss of some of their peers by suicide. It’s also a tou...gh time for them (and us all) generally with COVID placing restrictions on them gathering and creating great uncertainty about their futures. Headspace have created greater capacity to support young people from Gerringong, Kiama, Jamberoo and surrounding areas who are experiencing extreme distress due to the recent deaths and have created the attached resource for sharing. We encourage you to reach out if you are struggling yourself or if you need further advice on supporting young people through these times. Lifeline 13 11 14 and Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 are available 24/7. https://www.facebook.com/kiamayouthservices/

08.01.2022 Important Update about COVID-19 At the Little Blowhole Physio, we’re focused on the well-being of every person who steps through our clinic doors. This includes the health and safety of our local communities, which is our patients, as well as our team members. We want to reassure you that we are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, are regularly updating processes according to any daily mandates and recommendations from the government and the Department ...of Health. Following government guidelines, we are asking all people who have travelled in the last 14 days not to present to clinics. We are helping to reschedule appointments, and we look forward to welcoming these patients back following the appropriate period of quarantine. We are asking patients to let us know if they are showing signs or symptoms of the Coronavirus. Should this be the case we are rescheduling appointments and requesting clearance by their GP or evidence of a returned a negative test. We have made hand sanitisers and hand-washing facilities available to all our team members and patients within our clinics. We are following best guidelines from the Department of Health for cleaning our clinic facilities, waiting areas and equipment. Our clinic has been re-arranged to ensure there is less close contact between patients, and as able we are moving our patients quickly through and away from the common areas. This includes implementing the current social distancing guidelines (2m apart, 1 person per 4m squared inside). Other ways we’re asking patients to help us, help them. Wash hands often with soap and running water, for at least 20 seconds. Dry with paper towel or hand dryer. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser if you don’t have access to wash hands with soap and water Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow Call your GP first if you need medical attention. They will advise you what to do Continue healthy habits: exercise, drink water, get plenty of sleep If you have flu like symptoms or you are presenting as unwell, please call our clinic where our reception team will assist you to reschedule your appointment. Practice social distancing and avoid touching, shaking hands, kissing, hugging, and other intimate contact with others We ask that only the individual being treated attend the clinic. In the interests of health and safety for all we are attempting to minimise the number of people in the waiting room at any given time. We appreciate that is a challenging time for all and that some of these measures may create some disruption to our regular treatment processes. We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that keep we can continue to deliver a safe and reassuring service to all of our valued patients.

04.01.2022 SCANS ARE ONLY PART OF THE PICTURE......... When you have had pain and it has led you to having "scans" the result can cause stress and be somewhat confusing as to what to do next. Below are some figures on CT and MRI results from people of various ages who do not have pain. It clearly shows that there is a normal degeneration of our spine that occurs with ageing that is painless. When in pain and your scan shows disc degeneration and/or disc bulging it is a mistake to automa...tically consider it as the source of your pain. Occasionally a scan will pick up a damaged structure that fits in with your current history, your signs and symptoms but more often the scans provide a snapshot of your general spinal condition. Through assessing the dynamic functioning of your body (muscular flexibility, muscular strength, habitual posture, circulation etc.) you are more likely to understand why your body has pain and cannot heal itself. With education and increased body awareness as your tools you can gain greater understanding of the habits you have that add strain and dysfunction to your body and also those habits you do or don't have that help to maintain a functional, pain free and energetic body. It would certainly be easier if the summary section of your scan included all this information, unfortunately it doesn't. That's Where we can help you. By Jamie Valk See more

03.01.2022 With each day our body goes astray, we are training ourselves to stay that way!

03.01.2022 So you may be wondering what we get up to at the Little Blowhole Physio? Most basically we deal with the DIS-EASE of the body. It is our aim to identify the areas of the body not at natural ease which will prevent either the full working or full resting of certain key areas of the body.... Muscles are contracting, tensioning and moving tissues within the body. With habitual physical or emotional overload important areas of the body shorten and constrict leading to a break in the natural flow of movement, energy, blood and lymphatic fluids, various vital nerve signals and of course the breathing. In nature everything must flow. The human body as a natural structure is subject to this law. The physical and emotional ties that bind the body make you un-well in the short term and lead to chronic illness in the long term. We are creatures of habit. At the Little Blowhole Physio we aim to identify these held tensions, discuss the reasons they occur and with various interesting manual techniques assist in the release of these restrains to the life of the body. It is possible with reasonable treatments, home exercise for the body and mind and an improved awareness of cause and effect, to regain personal control of even the most wayward of bodies. We all need to be able to activate and rest our bodies each day. This is an interesting and achievable goal. Conditions treated include: - Pain - Inability to sleep - Headaches - Breathing and circulatory problems - Anxiety - General fatigue - All movement restrictions - Sport and work injuries - Post-Operative care We do both regular maintenance and repair work on people.
