24.01.2022 One of the Masterchef worthy dishes created in our mud kitchen today
23.01.2022 These creatures were found hanging out in my lemon tree pot today
22.01.2022 As someone that (in pre Covid times) travelled extensively, I love teaching my own children and others about the world. I was delighted today when our permitted worker kids showed interest in the world map poster on our wall, so we pulled it down for a closer look. The children wanted to know more about the Russian Matryoshka dolls that were shown on our map. I quickly went in search of my own dolls that I had purchased from a market in Moscow. Everyone had a great time taking the dolls apart, finding smaller dolls, then trying to put them all back together again.
22.01.2022 It's been so much fun over the last month. We are very excited to have some new friends join us soon
21.01.2022 Earlier in the week (before having to take a few days off for illness ) we roped in Pete to help us pull up our potato plants that the children have been so carefully maintaining. It was so exciting, pulling up the plants, digging for the potatoes in the dirt, then sorting and cleaning them up ready to be eaten!
17.01.2022 Lots of fun for National Science Week. We've done 'float or sink', the skittles colour experiment (a number of skittles may have been consumed in the name of science ), sorting animal magnets into land or sea habitats, drawing around our bodies then identifying body parts, explosive volcanoes and magic milk! It was so nice to do socially distanced visits today to some of the local children that can't attend at the moment due to Stage 4 restrictions in Victoria. We left them a pack of items to do their own science experiments.
17.01.2022 We books! Especially on a rainy Friday.
15.01.2022 My Chief Toy Testers are looking forward to welcoming some new friends to our house soon #familydaycare #fdcaustralia #aspendalegardens
15.01.2022 Day 1 of business yesterday. We had the best day with the most adorable little boy. The girls and I had so much fun playing with him and doing some 'farm' activities from our current program. Bittersweet though as I continue to be informed that with the governments new Covid 19 'free' childcare policy and due to the timing of my set up, it makes it not financially viable taking on any other new kids in the short term. I've decided to be as positive as possible and will ...take the time to gain some more experience and get my setting as right as it can be, so that when things change in the hopefully near future we will be full steam ahead. Don't get mad, get political they say... so I spent my morning writing a letter to my local MP. Fingers crossed this will all just be a blip. I'm more than happy to take expressions of interest still. *Mums permission was granted to share photos #familydaycareaustralia
14.01.2022 I've been promising the children new fish for ages. These guys might distract from the Christmas activities this week! My girls have named them Scuba, Goggles and 12345fish
13.01.2022 We celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Children's Day over two days! With some flag making art yesterday and damper making today. The children described the damper as "yum" and "it made me happy to eat it"
13.01.2022 Finally, some clarity! This policy, while great for parents has really been detrimental to the Family Day Care sector. It was the worst time to open my small business. It will be great to proceed with confidence from mid-July.
12.01.2022 Welcome to Little Cockatoos FDC! A brand new Family Day Care in Aspendale Gardens. We have been working very hard to prepare over the last few months. We are all set up and have just been registered with the City of Kingston's Family Day Care unit, having met their rigorous requirements. We are now ready to accept enrolments, for kids age 18 months plus, through to primary school kids that may need care. Clearly Coronavirus means it is a very difficult time for everyone and ...certainly not a great time to set up a new business. However we'd really like to play our part in supporting our community. Family Day Care numbers are small and we are happy to take enquiries for now to assist essential workers, or additionally if anyone is interested once restrictions ease. I am Jade, the owner of Little Cockatoos. I recently decided to pause my Corporate career. I've worked for years within Finance teams in Melbourne and London, largely as a Supervisor or Team Leader for multinational companies and for major cultural institutions. I've got two beautiful girls who are six and 18 months and we live together with my husband, Pete in our property in Aspendale Gardens. We have tirelessly renovated over the last 2.5 years and it provides a very happy, child centred environment. I've always loved introducing my own children to cultural and environmental experiences and after researching it, I decided that Family Day Care would be a great way to combine my business skills with my desire for a creative outlet. While some of the ideas that had been central to my plans such as excursions and community outings will not be able to go ahead during this time of Coronavirus, I will still be doing my best to implement a program that is full of music, art, culture, nature play and most importantly, having lots of fun! If you or anyone you know locally may be interested then please contact me via messenger, or email [email protected] and I will get back to you ASAP. #familydaycare #fdc #aspendalegardens
11.01.2022 Rainy days = messy play with taste safe 'dirt', home made play doh and our own little Farmers' Market
07.01.2022 Nature art by four 1 year olds
07.01.2022 Thanks so much to everyone that has shown an interest in my business since my first post. Despite suffering isolation cabin fever, the girls and I were excited to see in the arrival of our new vegetable planters this week. We can't wait to include planting and maintenance of veggies as part of our Family Day Care routines. I am all set up and ready to go, when the time is right. I thought it would help to explain what this involves so that you can be assured that children ...will be safely looked after and engaged in appropriate educational programming: Registered with the City of Kingston Family Day Care Service ABN registered (89266746967) CCS (Child Care Subsidy) approved First Aid trained including Asthma & Anaphylaxis Completed Infection Control Training - COVID 19 Working With Children and Police Checked (for myself and my husband) Studying the Certificate 3 in Children's Services and receiving ongoing training and support from the Kingston Council FDC team Fully insured through Family Day Care Australia My house has been extensively safety checked and approved by the Kingston FDC team. Recently completed Fire Safety and Child Protection courses Medical clearance
06.01.2022 I'm so sorry to confirm that we will be closed for a little while (with the exception of permitted worker parents), in line with Stage 4 restrictions throughout Melbourne. It's been a great month of finally opening up to full capacity and building up relationships with all our new kids. It will be heartbreaking to not see them now for several weeks. I will do my best to stay connected, so to my families, prepare for some videos and care packages once I get myself sorted. ... As tough as this is, I do wholeheartedly agree that we need to get on top of the virus in Melbourne, so I'll support what needs to be done! On the upside, by the time we reopen Spring will be upon us, presenting us with some wonderful play and intentional learning opportunities. All those plants that the children have been so carefully tending to will begin to flourish!
05.01.2022 Anyone else spending stage 4 lockdown doing lots of online shopping then lots of impatient waiting for things to arrive?!! So excited to finally have our new sandpit and trikes. We had one version of this trike already but it is always in hot demand amongst the children, so now we have more. I expect we'll have some races this week! Now I am just hanging out from a message from Bunnings to tell me that the extra play sand I've ordered is ready to collect...
04.01.2022 We LOVED having big Primary School kids join us recently over the holidays and wish them the very best as they head back to school on Monday. They were very kind and helpful role models for our little kids. We had fun with biscuit and pizza making, obstacle courses, reading, cracking ice blocks to free toys and my personal favourite, painting garden rocks with a salad spinner!
02.01.2022 Thank you so much to all who have contacted me in the last couple of weeks expressing interest in my Family Day Care. I've had quite a few queries. We are currently away on the NSW South Coast while my husband is here for work. Upon our return I will almost be at FULL capacity but I will have a few tours for the limited places remaining. Thank you for your patience! Very much looking forward to our new families starting soon.
01.01.2022 Thank you so much to Emma from Music with Mummies, for delivering an online party today for our Friday toddlers
