11.01.2022 Creating Welcoming Spaces // At LEA, our space is your space. We place significant emphasis on ensuring our learning environments are warm & inviting for the children as we endeavour to create spaces where children feel safe and secure. But our families and visitors don’t go unnoticed either! Presently our team are working on tweaking our environment to ensure the big people who engage with our service have a safe and secure place to just be too. Whether this means rea...ding through our array of brochures and resources, our policies, catching up on your emails, having a chat with our team and enjoying adult interaction or just doing nothing for 5 minutes we are creating spaces for you to do this. We have introduced water and glasses to our reception, specifically as the weather warms because we know that as parents it’s not often you put you or your needs first. We will continue to adapt our space to suit your needs and your feedback and ideas are always encouraged to support us in this process.

07.01.2022 Australia/Survival Day // Today at the academy we've learnt lots about our country and its rich cultural history. Across our learning environments today the children have engaged in cooking experiences where they have made lamingtons and vegemite and cheese scrolls. They enjoyed some Aussie themed meal times including enjoying a yummy sausage sizzle for lunch with a fresh salad. ... We have learnt about our National Anthem, and traditional songs such as Waltzing Matilda and listened to these throughout the day. We spent time acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land in which we learn upon here at LEA, The Dharug people and engaged with singing "We are One" in Mabu Yawuru Ngan-Ga language. Through our interactive smartboard the children engaged in further exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and Australian History alongside their educators. The children also engaged with stimulus pictures to create their own interpretative adaptations of both the Australian and Aboriginal flags through creative art experiences. A busy day of learning to be extended upon when we all returned back on the 27th after tomorrows Public Holiday.
05.01.2022 Always was, Always Will be - NAIDOC WEEK 2020 // Our educational focus at the academy this year for NAIDOC week this year is to highlight and unpack our embedded practice. 2020 has taken both the Little Explorers and our Educational Team on a cultural exploration journey as we have immersed ourselves in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. ... This has included the creation of our reconciliation action plan and ensuring our embedded learning and practices are culturally appropriate and respectful. It is our strong belief that every week should highlight and pay respects to our nations traditional custodians and it is for this reason in each our our classrooms we recite of Acknowledgement of Country as we pay respects to the Dharug People, the traditional custodians of the land in which we are so privileged to educate and care for some of our littlest community members. We have been exploring story telling through symbols, learning Aboriginal Language, discovering the meaning behind the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, discovering traditional instruments and learning about Corroboree's, imitating traditional dance and discussing music amongst much more. As our learning journey continues we would love to take this opportunity to extend an invite to our wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to work in partnership with our centre to support us in our cultural development. Please feel free to either message us or call us on (02) 4737 1437.
