25.01.2022 It's been a busy few days in the Little Gems clinic as we have welcomed back some 'pre-covid' clients. Loving my new necklace handmade by one of the little gems- perfect start to the day! #speechtherapy #happythursday @adventuresinspeechpathology

24.01.2022 Happy Autumn! Its hard to believe we have already hit the half way mark of Term 1! All of our clients have been working so hard on their therapy goals, and we absolutely love being apart of their progress. Term 2 is already gearing up to be a busy one, so I have opened my calendar for Term 2 a little earlier this year to ensure we can get your preferred appointment spot locked in. Appointment days will continue to be Wednesday and Thursday.... I look forward to hearing from you!

23.01.2022 A very big thank you to all of our wonderful families for being so dedicated during Term 2. We are taking a little time off over the school holidays to spend some quality time with our families, and plan for Term 3. We look forward to seeing our Little Gems return for plenty more fun in mid July. Happy Holidays!!!

21.01.2022 Little Gems will be closed tomorrow for Ekka Wednesday. We hope everyone has the opportunity to get out and about to enjoy the warm winter sunshine Appointments as usual on Thursday.

20.01.2022 We hope you were all able to navigate learning at home today, and were able to find enjoyment in spending a little extra time with your little ones. If you are on the hunt for additional resources to support the activities set by your childs teacher, twinkl has an endless supply of wonderful resources. https://www.twinkl.com.au/... Best of luck for day 2!

20.01.2022 Happy Easter Holidays! I hope you are all adjusting to the new way of living and most importantly enjoying quality time with your family. Following instruction from Speech Pathology Australia we have moved our service to the telepractice platform. We commenced sessions on Saturday and the sessions were well received by our Little Gems, with many of them enjoying the opportunity to navigate the mouse on their own. ... At this stage we envisage the continuation of our service via telepractice throughout Term 2. Therefore, if you are interested in therapy for your child during Term 2 please make contact with us asap so we can schedule a suitable appointment time. Please note: Current clients will be offered appointments prior to taking on new clients. Here at Little Gems weve been enjoying time with our own kids. Weve developed a loose routine which has included an art activity each day (white paper plates have been my saviour). We look forward to doing this activity as we head towards Easter. Enjoy! https://www.simpleeverydaymom.com/handprint-bunny-craft-f/

20.01.2022 Term 3 appointments complete for another term! Therapy sessions will continue during the school holidays for our eager Little Gems. Thank you to all of our families who have demonstrated endless commitment to your childs communication development throughout the term. We look forward to supporting many more children in Term 4. Enjoy the holidays!

19.01.2022 Love a fresh sensory box! We use this box in almost every therapy session because our little gems just cant get enough of them. Last week water beads this week good old shredded paper and sparkly pom poms. #sparkle #sensorybox #littlegems #happythursday #letskicksomegoals #lovewhatwedo @bjoremspeech

18.01.2022 Teletherapy!! It has certainly been a big few weeks with a lot of changes in everyones household. Here at Little Gems we are currently preparing to commence our online sessions. 17.01.2022 Four days of (the best) training completed! Feeling confident to finally have a quality evidence based program to offer my clients who require additional support with their literacy skills. #soundality1 #soundswrite #alisonperry #amustdocourse

17.01.2022 A wonderful resource at a great price for all of the early readers out there. Decodable readers provide a valuable platform for children learning to decode words. Every word (other than a few sight words) can be sounded out by the child. Download and enjoy a little shared reading with your child.

16.01.2022 A touch of voice education this morning. Enjoying a mixed bag of therapy today! #voicetherapy #fluencytherapy #language #articulation #welovehelpingourclients #atempovoice #lidcombeprogram

16.01.2022 Home learning kicked off at our house this week. As a speechie I regularly use this wonderful website, and they are currently offering it for free. Plenty of wonderful resources and ideas to keep minds active during this uncertain time. Check it out!!! 14.01.2022 Hello Holidays! I am kicking off the holidays with a little professional development as I participate in a four day course called 'Sounds Write'. I am already excited about delivering this program in clinic. I look forward to having yet another evidence based tool to assist our little ones through the challenges of learning to read and spell. Enjoy this beautiful weather and I look forward to welcoming you all back next week!

14.01.2022 A very different Term 2 is on its way! Little Gems has thoroughly enjoyed seeing many familiar happy faces pop up on the computer screen during the school holidays, and we look forward to continuing to support our Little Gems in Term 2. Enjoy the rest of the school holidays!

14.01.2022 There is no better feeling than: Establishing an interaction with a child who is non-verbal. Observing that little tear of joy in a parents' eye as they hear their child utter their very first word.... Seeing the smile on a child's face as they vocalise 'yes I got it', when they stimulate a target sound for the very first time. Hearing a child say a long sentence without stuttering. Observing a child move from non- verbal to greeting me at the door with 'Hello, how are you?' There really is no better feeling than giving a child the right to communicate with confidence. Happy Speech Pathology Week to all of my wonderful clients and their families (past and present). You all hold a special place in my

12.01.2022 There is no doubt Term 2 was one wild ride, but we strapped ourselves in and made the most of a difficult situation. Thank you to all my wonderful clients who stuck by me and continued their sessions via Telehealth. Term 3 is almost upon us and is looking a little brighter (at this point). We look forward to welcoming back little ones who have had a short break and continuing sessions with our current clients. We remind all families to continue good hand hygiene when attend...ing sessions and to stay at home if any members of your family are unwell. See you all soon!

11.01.2022 After a touch of professional development and a few days off to enjoy some time with my own babes, I am feeling refreshed and ready to jump into Term 4. 11.01.2022 Kids a little unsure about why they are cooped up at home all day. This provides a child friendly explanation of this crazy time we are all experiencing. Enjoy!

10.01.2022 Firstly, a big thank you to all of my wonderful clients for attending their therapy sessions over the last week, despite the uncertainty within Australia at this point in time. I have always strived to provide a clean and sterilized environment to ensure the health and safety of my clients and their families. I am currently taking additional measures in line with the recommendations by the Department of Health. Whilst I currently remain open for face-to-face sessions, I am... conscious that my ability to continue this mode of service delivery may change within the near future. Therefore, I am in the process of setting up the option to provide our services via Telehealth, i.e., Zoom. If you are interested in continuing therapy sessions during these uncertain times I highly recommend you ensure you have the appropriate device, i.e., iPad, computer with video etc. and familiarise yourself and your child with Zoom. Currently, clients on care plans through Medicare are unable to claim telehealth sessions through Medicare, and families who claim through private health are encouraged to check with their provider to determine if telehealth sessions are covered. NDIS clients are entitled to telehealth services. I will continue to keep you informed as further updates are provided. Whilst I prefer and thoroughly enjoy our face-to-face sessions, I am confident that I can continue to provide fun-filled and goal driven therapy sessions via the telehealth platform. If you have any questions or concerns please dont hesitate to contact me. Wishing you all health and happiness, and enjoy a little extra down time with your little gems.

10.01.2022 Rocking and rolling with R on this beautiful Wednesday. Plenty of our Little Gems will be excited to see these water beads back in action- thank you @waterbeadsaustralia. Also loving these build a robot articulation activities from @pandaspeech and threading mats from @adventuresinspeechpathology Accurate articulation of /r/ is expected by 5 years of age. If you have any concerns with the development of your childs speech wed love to hear from you! #littlegemsspeech #welovefreshactivities #keepingthemmotivated #speechpath #speechie

09.01.2022 A brand new year is on its way! As we wrap up 2018, we would like to thank all of the wonderful families who have dedicated their time to supporting their childs communication skills. We have set goals... we have taken steps forward and then backwards and then forwards again... we have played (a LOT)... we have smiled and laughed... we have shed a tear or two... and we have absolutely smashed goals... and this, makes it all worthwhile. We love doing what we do, and we ca...nt wait to do it all again in 2019. Wishing you all the most wonderful celebrations as you bring in a brand new year with your wonderful little people. See you in 2019. x The team at Little Gems Speech Pathology

06.01.2022 We love finding activities that target a variety of goals at the same time. Here we are working on /ir/ in bird as we group them into small, medium and big birds. We are also working on /ch/ so why not feed the chick while we are at it! Vowel errors can significantly impede on speech intelligibility. Vowels are expected to be correctly articulated in single words by 3-years of age. /ch/ is expected by 4-years of age. #activitymom #bjoremspeech #welovespeech #funintherapy #recreateathome #playbasedlearning

04.01.2022 Winter holidays are done and dusted, we are feeling refreshed and ready to get into Term 3. This time of year brings many new referrals with the aim of improving their childs speech prior to commencing school in the following year. Many parents are often encouraged to take the wait and see or theyll grow out of it approach, and then boom their child turns four or five and they are still difficult to understand. Understanding normal speech development is key to avoiding... the desperate dash for a speech pathologist. The tree house diagram below provides a good overview of the sounds that are expected by each age. Generally parents know best, therefore if you have concerns about your childs speech, a chat with a speech pathologist, sooner rather than later, is highly recommended. If you are considering speech pathology for your child within the next six months, we encourage you to start the hunt now to ensure you can secure an appointment with a speech pathologist that works for your child. Happy Talking, and enjoy Term 3!!!

04.01.2022 Wed like to welcome Lilla OKeeffe to the Little Gems Speech Pathology team. Lilla will be supporting students at a number of the Southern Cross Catholic Colleges on the Redcliffe Peninsula. Happy Thursday!

03.01.2022 Its often difficult to navigate this parenting journey, and when faced with challenging behaviour, I have admitted plenty of times that I could do with a course, handbook or flowchart to guide my approach. Every child is unique, and as parents we are the ones who know them best. Strategies are out there, but where do we even begin? This article is beautifully written by a speech pathology colleague Rebecca Reinking- a must read for all parents with young children. Enjoy!

02.01.2022 Its been a mega week at Little Gems Speech Pathology. Thank you to all of the clients who have accommodated for the construction that has been happening around our little clinic.
