25.01.2022 Book week celebrations

25.01.2022 Emergency Evacuation - Fire Drills March 2021 Observation Started: 2021-03-22... This month little people’s place east Fremantle are due to practice their emergency evacuation drills. This is something that we perform every three months, and implement each day for an entire week. A week long implementation is not a mandatory practice, but something we have chosen to embed at east Fremantle as an exceeding practice. We believe that in doing so, it creates more opportunities for the staff, children, families and local community to be actively involved in our emergency evacuation drills and to engage in the evaluation process. After each of our randomly selected fire drills, the nominated supervisor or OHS officer will initiate a group discussion with the participants. This includes staff, children, families and local community members. During the discussion we will revise how the emergency evacuation went and critically reflect on how efficient it was. Then we share ways we can work towards creating a more effective plan for the future. To symbolise our emergency evacuation drills, we will be utilising an A3 poster that pictures a flame and says ‘The Fire Drill’ I have attached a picture for you to observe! If you spot this sign around the centre that means you are responsible for initiating the emergency evacuation procedure! I have also attached photos of our policies Emergency Procedures. We can’t wait to have you help us implement this weeks emergency evacuation procedures! I wonder who will spot the first fire? Where to next: Today we will implement the first emergency evacuation procedure!

22.01.2022 Today you may have noticed that our educators are wearing jeans, this is because today is jeans for genes day! What is Jeans for Genes? Jeans for Genes is the iconic fundraising campaign of Childrens Medical Research Institute. Jeans for Genes was established in 1994 by Childrens Medical Research Institute to fund revolutionary research that helps diagnose, understand, and find cures or treatments for conditions affecting kids, including genetic diseases, cancer, and epilep...sy. 1 in 20 kids is born with a genetic disease or birth defect. You likely know and care about someone affected. Genetic diseases are one of the leading causes of death in kids under four and the main cause of ongoing hospitalisation. To fight this epidemic, we need more research. What is a Genetic Disease? Did you know there are more than 6000 different genetic diseases? While often inherited, many genetic diseases happen out of the blue due to chance occurrences, so they can affect anyone. Most are poorly understood and have no specific treatments or cures. Often called disorders, syndromes and other terms, genetic diseases can be confusing, but put simplythey are conditions caused, at least in part, by changes in our DNA. Random errors that occur naturally, or exposure to radiation and harmful environmental substances like asbestos, can cause changes in our DNA. Our DNA information is massive. If written out, it would fill 1 million pages or 200 city phone books. And changing just one single letter in all those books can cause a genetic disease. At least five thousand disorders are caused by a change in a single gene. Another thousand genetic diseases are more complex in nature. Complex or multifactorial diseases are the result of many genetic changes and are influenced by our environment. Frequently, all the causes are not yet known. https://www.jeansforgenes.org.au/geneticdisease If you would like to donate, you can utilise the link below! https://www.myjeansforgenes.org.au/donate We hope you have a wonderful weekend everyone! 13.01.2022 LETS RAISE FUNDS TOGETHER N A T I O N A L P Y J A M A D A Y The Pyjama Foundation... The Pyjama Foundation provides children in foster care with the opportunity to change the direction of their lives with learning, life skills and confidence. Through the Love of Learning program, volunteers called Pyjama Angels are recruited, screened, trained and then matched with a child in care and spend time with them once a week, focusing on learning-based activities. Most importantly, the volunteers give foster children a chance to reach their life potential, despite a fragile start. Children in care have the lowest education outcomes nationally. By improving their learning skills, The Pyjama Foundation is making a positive, life-long impact. On the 17th of July we are joining our sister centre Banksia Gove towards participating in this event by wearing our pyjamas and asking our children , educators and families to join in We would also very much appreciate your support and help by bringing in a gold coin donation to go towards helping those in need. Or you can donate any amount to our personal link below https://the-pyjama-foundation.giveeasy.org//little-peopl/ Thank you to Little Peoples Place Banksia Grove for involving us in this amazing fundraiser

04.01.2022 Tyrown Waigana, a proud Noongar and Saibai Islander man based in Perth, has been named as the winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC Poster Competition. His ...winning entry - Shape of Land - was judged to have best illustrated the 2020 NAIDOC theme: Always Was Always Will Be. The 23-year-old artist explains his winning entry depicts the Rainbow Serpent coming out of the Dreamtime to create this country and how we are strongly connected to it. The Rainbow Serpent is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - always was, and always will be Aboriginal land, Mr Waigana added.
