25.01.2022 Little River General Store annual Christmas Party has started. Come down and say hello
24.01.2022 Yes, that really is Jimmy Barnes - Official wearing a CFA (Country Fire Authority) t-shirt onstage with Cold Chisel in front of 20,000 people! While it has our brigade name on it, this is a massive show of support by the band for ALL CFA (Country Fire Authority) firefighters for their hard work and dedication, not just in the past few weeks, but 365 days a year. #weworkasone One of our members gave it to one of Cold Chisel's A DAY ON THE GREEN backstage crew and the t-shirt w...as passed along until it reached the man himself, who was apparently touched that he'd been gifted it. Huge appreciation to the backstage crew, Fleur and Spanzy for the awesome photos and all the messages of excitement from people who saw our little brigade on a big stage. And thanks to Jimmy for wearing it! #rockon #bloodmoontour2020 #coldchisel Please donate to bushfire affected communities at vic.gov.au/bushfireappeal
20.01.2022 FYI Night Aircraft Exercise Tonight We have been notified that the night aviation program will be conducting a night exercise in the Western Grassland area North of Quandong and Little River. The aircraft will be over the exercise area after 21.00 and should be clear before 22.30. There will no fire involved in this exercise as it is just a nighttime simulation to practice water bomming activities outside of daylight hours. The major working area is to the north of Argoona Road.
18.01.2022 Yesterday we responded to a small grass and scrub fire in the You Yangs Regional Park Thanks to the work of air support the fire was contained quickly.
18.01.2022 FIRE RESTRICTIONS NOW IN FORCE The CFA Chief Officer has advised the Fire Danger Period (FDP) has commenced from today - Monday 14 December across the City of Wyndham and City of Greater Geelong. All of Little River is covered in this declaration. Please ensure all burn-offs undertaken in the last few weeks are fully extinguished. Any council issued permits are now no longer current and cannot be used as authorisation to burn-off. ... Hefty penalties apply if anyone is found to be undertaking a burn-off during the FDP. During the FDP, the police will be called to anyone buying off. CFA takes a zero-tolerance approach. If you need further information; https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/can

13.01.2022 It's warming up, fire season is just around the corner and with restrictions already in place in the Nth West of the state please clean up and take care in the grass... In the last 10 days, we have attended 4 Grass and Scrub fires and 1 Structure fire. Our bulk water tanker has already been back in action this season heading out to Truganina last week. Did you know that a single bulk water tanker load can fill 5 to 6 standard CFA tankers? At the Truganina job, it completed 6 full loads of water which is about 36 CFA tanker loads. The Bulk Tanker crew were able to fill tankers quickly on the fire ground, reducing their need to travel for water. This saves significant time and allows for more and faster fire suppression.
11.01.2022 If you're not aware our fantastic volunteers at Lions Club of Little River still have a number of locally made masks available for FREE to Little River residents (No matter what side of the River!) Please reach out to them via FB for details. Stay safe everyone!
10.01.2022 Happy mothers day to all the mums today! In tribute to all the mums and ladies who have served the Brigade over the years, we have a small story on the women of the Little River Fire Brigade; In the days before radios, the Brigade was alerted to fires via the Little River Manual Telephone Exchange. Along with several other women, whose names have been lost to history, Mrs Myra Bull staffed the exchange to do a ‘ring around’ to alert and guard the community against bushfire, ...a job she did right up to her retirement. When firefighters turned out, they would pick up the phone inside the shed door so Mrs Bull or another operator could provide directions to the fire location. In the early 1970’s the Brigade encouraged local women to obtain their truck licence so they could turn trucks out during the day while other members of the brigade were at work. Mrs Rhona Walsh, who owned a shop on the corner of River Street and Edgars Road, was one driver, however the names of the rest were lost when records were destroyed during a fire at the Brigade Secretary’s house. In September 1980, Miss Caroline McKenzie was elected to the position of Secretary and Treasurer, an appointment that caused some controversy as she was not a registered Brigade member. Mr John Bushby, who was OIC of Region 7, advised that a re-election must be held, which was duly done. Miss McKenzie was elected again, pending acceptance of her membership by the CFA. Over the years there have been countless acts of selflessness by female partners, family and community members to support the Little River Fire Brigade. From tirelessly fundraising for a new bulk water truck, to running supplies to a fire ground, or staffing the station during large incidents like the December 2018 fire, the role of women in making our Brigade what it is today cannot be underestimated. We are proud to currently have two operational female firefighters, Belinda Webb and Emma Sutcliffe, who have been active members since 2017. Lynette Richmond has been an official member since 2007 in an Operational Support role. They all are not only a great asset to our Brigade but have enhanced and improved our team culture. We look forward to welcoming more women into our Brigade to help support and protect the Little River community.
09.01.2022 When you changed your clock did you do the smoke alarms?
08.01.2022 A total fire ban and extreme fire danger have been declared tomorrow. What does extreme fire danger mean? Expect extremely hot, dry and windy conditions. If a fire starts and takes hold, it will be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast-moving. Spot fires will start, move quickly and come from many directions.... Homes that are situated and constructed or modified to withstand a bushfire, that are well prepared and actively defended, may provide safety. You must be physically and mentally prepared to defend in these conditions. It will be windy from early tomorrow so plan ahead and be prepared. We will be on standby with a tanker crew once the fire danger indicator starts to climb.
06.01.2022 Not much to add than what a great idea!
05.01.2022 It's a hot one today - keep hydrated and keep alert via the VicEmergency app. We are now on standby at the station till after the change comes through.
