18.01.2022 My father doesn’t consider himself a creative person. But when I was about 8 he created one of my most cherished childhood memories. He asked me to colour in a cardboard circle.... He then placed it on the end of his drill & pulled the trigger. It swirled colours. It was magical. A drill creating this visual kaleidoscope! I’m pretty sure it only happened once. Today I recreated that for my children who were sitting next to my dad who’d been using the drill. Their faces were something else I’ll cherish. Each child also had a turn of pressing the drill trigger to make it spin. We discussed safety & rules first. My toddler’s mind almost exploded with joy- I could feel every cell focussed on the task & his entire body responding to the power of the drill in his little hands. (He was on my lap). It made me proud. Children should be safely supported to work with tools as they ARE creative. Fixing, building, stacking, designing... it’s something I always found fascinating as a child & loved helping my dad build or fix things. 10.01.2022 Today we made... - STORMS with our finger tips, palms, fists & feet. We listened to the different sounds we could make & felt the vibration through our bodies. - we made a STORM ARTWORK using MARK MAKING techniques similar to how we made the sounds. - we created CLAY CREATURES using a blend of potters clay & air dry clay.... Faces, tails & hair were created using little gifts from the garden. - we explored RAINBOW RICE. Eacg Little Art Lab class is an invitation to both parents & children. It’s an offer to let your inner child play as you watch your own child be the master of their ship & make their own decisions. Sometimes we don’t need to ask what should I do? We need to ask ‘what happens if I do this...?’ & take those reins! I am loving this term- the parents & children are a special bunch. 08.01.2022 If children naturally rebalance themselves... what are we doing? What are the messages our bodies are sending that we have been taught to ignore? Taught through neglect (school requires us to sit for long periods. Work often does too.) What signs & signals are we missing that could provide a light to numerous other emotional, mental or physical niggles we experience?... How do you move? Do you move in a certain way? Does your body tell you or do you do it out of habit? A desire for fitness? To look a certain way or for sport? What if we just MOVED FOR FUN? Because it releases endorphins & makes us feel good.
