24.01.2022 Family day care is special. On Saturday my daughter and I were lucky enough to be able to attend Kwinanas Summer Symphony with two of our day care friends. Last year they also attended during daylight hours and we had so much fun watching the stilt walkers and listening to the pre show entertainment that all three girls asked to go to the concert for months. ... So when it came up I again asked for permission- and this time mum and dad decided to stay and watch too. We all had a fantastic time listening to the music and dancing. A huge thank you to our families, who trust me with their little ones (I only do what I feel Im capable of) and to Kwinana Council, who once again have provided our community with such an amazing opportunity. #familydaycare #learningtogether #learningisfun #healthymovement #childsplay #kindyplay #toddlerplay #childrenarepeopletoo #healthybodies #letthemplay #funlearning #learningthroughplay #discoveringislearning #music #toddlermusic #musicfun #summersymphony #summersymphony2019 #kwinanacouncil

23.01.2022 I didnt even know this was possible..... One of my families gifted a chrysalis for my birthday. What an amazing gift! For a few weeks we loved everything butterflies as we watched and waited. Finally the day came- our chrysalis began turning black as our monarch butterfly prepared to emerge. As the weather cooled we hoped for a nice warm afternoon so that we could release it. (Did you know butterflies need temperatures of at least 20c to fly?)... #familydaycare #learningtogether #learningisfun #sciencefun #discoveringislearning #naturelearning #funlearning

22.01.2022 Did you know that rolling down hills provides essential vestibular (balance) input that helps children know where their body is in space? It also helps with sup...porting and organizing all of the other senses (vision, listening, etc.) -- for improved brain and body functioning. Let the children roll down hills! 18.01.2022 Today we found out where coconut comes from . We carefully drilled a hole and poured out the milk to try. We then watched from a safe distance when we used a hammer to open the nut. 18.01.2022 I have a lot of children starting Kindy next year so have been thinking about how I monitor learning in preparation and found this Hello Kindergarten document for parents from WA Education Department. We do all this and more in family as part of our daily routine. With a maximum of 4 children under school age (and never any more than 7 children) at any given time, children have plenty of one on one opportunity to learn and grow. http://det.wa.edu.au//hello-kindergarten-wh...at-to-expect-wh #familydaycare #learningtogether #learningisfun #kindylearning #kindyplay #kindyreadiness

18.01.2022 I am loving this app. Anyone who knows us knows we love to be out in the garden and my children have been finding bugs and creepy crawlies for a long time. Whilst I am loving my garden and everything that comes with it, I am still somewhat of a learner myself and this app has been fantastic. It enables us to scan so many items and find out what they are - Insects... Spiders Birds Plants Fungi And in only a a couple of short weeks we’ve learnt the names of a number of new species. #familydaycare #learningtogether #learningisfun #kindylearning #toddlerlearning #childsplay #kindyplay #toddlerplay #sciencefun #naturelearning #learningthroughplay #discoveringislearning #thegreatoutdoors #steam

16.01.2022 It really is SO important for children to move and test their bodies. We dont like to see them hurt but minor injuries now are much easier to heal when younger than older and children learn their own bodies boundaries and limitations. https://www.raepica.com//making-a-mess-of-human-developme/

15.01.2022 I have been grateful for the opportunity that is family daycare since the day I started. Since then, so many things have happened where Ive thought I couldnt be more grateful than I am now. But I am. So VERY GRATEFUL. This past few weeks have been crazy for everyone. So much change. Together we continue. We follow all health and hygiene guidelines- we always have. We spend most of our days outside, in the sun and fresh air. We eat lots of healthy foods and get plenty of... exercise. Family daycare means a maximum of 7 children in my care on any given day. Most of the time we are capped at 4. I value my relationship with the children I care for.... and the families who trust me even more. We are here. We are open. And we will continue to learn and grow together for as long as we can. #familydaycare #learningtogether #healthymovement #childrenshealth #mentalhealth #childsplay #healthybodies #letthemplay #coronavirus

14.01.2022 But they need to go to Kindy for socialisation. This is a comment I often hear. Yes, we are a small group. At the absolute most we have 7 children at once and only 4 under school age. So how do we socialise? The short answer is together. With a smaller group I have more time to support the children in learning appropriate social skills. ... The long answer? We have regular outings to the library and Kwinana Marketplace for stories and craft. We go to playgroup. We invite other educators and their children to visit. We go to Kwinana Adventure Park. We have groceries delivered and have technicians attend when required. All of these experiences provide children with many, many different types of people to interact with. Our children work together amazingly well. From all different backgrounds and lifestyles, they have come together to form beautiful bonds. Can you see the concentration and determination on their faces? They chose to move these tyres themselves- and achieved what they wanted without any assistance from me. #familydaycare #learningtogether #learningisfun #healthymovement #kidscanhelp #kindyfun #kindylearning #childsplay #kindyplay #discoveringislearning #naturelearning #letthemplay #funlearning #learningthroughplay #discoveringislearning

11.01.2022 Could you see your child playing here? Room to run, gardens to explore and lots of everyday learning. Some of our precious chickens are about to start school so places are available.

11.01.2022 What a fantastic initiative! Fitness and movement play such a big part in both our ability to learn and, as covid-19 has highlighted even more to me, our mental and emotional health and well-being. 08.01.2022 We really do thrive on risk..... as long as it it supervised, discussed and safe options are encouraged. By doing this early in life, we are teaching children how valuable they are.

07.01.2022 Loose parts is the phrase used to describe pretty much any loose material you can think of- the idea being that by doing away with toys that have a specific purpose you create wider imaginations. This was built by 4 (not yet kindy) & 5 year olds. One called it a house, another a castle. One described how it was designed so you can go inside it. It was then decorated using cars and natural items we’ve found on various trips out- seed pods, bark, sticks and rocks. What are we... learning? 05.01.2022 Merry Christmas from all of our family to yours. Have a safe and happy break.

03.01.2022 How do meal times become reading practise? By adding placemats with our names and introducing a helpers roster (we were beginning to argue over whos turn it was) we now have two more tools to practice letter recognition, sounds and name recognition. Each day, one child sets the table while the others finish playing and/or packing up. This one on one time allows me to help the children at their own individual pace. ... At the same time, we are learning valuable life skills. #familydaycare #learningtogether #learningisfun #letterrecognition #toddlerfun #kindyfun #kindylearning #toddlerlearning #childsplay #kindyplay #toddlerplay #childrenarepeopletoo #sciencefun #readingisfun

02.01.2022 Why? Because physical activity strengthens the muscles required for all the school activities that we put so much value on.... drawing and writing our names to name a few. Physical activity also helps us regulate our emotions and gives us a sense of value in ourselves. Restricting physical activity causes sleep disturbances, emotional outbursts, issues with balance..... and these are just the ones we see in the early years. Later in life we see many, many other health probl...ems. Im a mum too, we are busy and we dont want to see our children hurt. But the issues that come later in life are far greater. Build resilience NOW. Allow your children to move NOW. Encourage it, embrace it, enjoy it. Learn together, be together. And watch your little ones flourish with strength and confidence. #familydaycare #learningtogether #learningisfun #healthymovement #childrenshealth #timbernook
