21.01.2022 BLANKET FUNDING OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE RELIEF PACKAGE (CRP) COULD KILL FAMILY DAY CARE IN AUSTRALIA The ill-advised Early Childhood Education and... Care Relief Package (CRP) could destroy the small ratio, high quality Family Day Care sector. The government funding hasnt considered how Family Day Care operates, only taking into consideration the well-funded corporate Child Care Centre models while ignoring the pivotal model of Family Day Care. Family Day Care offers small ratios which means hygiene standards are easier to maintain and it offers an unmatched flexibility in the outside of traditional hours of care for essential workers. Though welcome that the government highlighted the essential role of early childhood education during a pandemic to keep essential workers in the workforce, the funding and legislation is lacking the detail and sophistication that the sector demands. The blanket CRP funding penalises Family Day Care educators who, in the past two weeks have experienced higher demand as their bespoke and intimate offering supports families who work outside of the traditional nine to five hours, largely health care workers and shift workers. Through the CRP package announced yesterday the government showcased a severe lack of understanding of the complexities and demand in Family Day Care. While Long Day Care centres and Child Care Centres have been forced to close because of loss of care, Family Day Care operators have remained open due to the small ratios and flexibility. While the Family Day Care industry has experienced its fair share of absences, withdrawals and closures, the past fortnight has seen a spike in efficiency with higher volume of children in care in some areas, within the operators who are continuing to operate. With the Government now promoting "FREE CHILD CARE", it is expected our hours of care will increase, in that case are our Educators expected to work for nothing? #FDCA #familydaycare #childcarereliefpackage #fdc #kidsathome #kahfdc

13.01.2022 This was written by one of our Educators..so very true We are hearing so much about schools, what about Early Childhood Education Settings - Please dont forget... Family Day Care. I have heard many of the specialists & politicians say that it is difficult in schools to ensure that young children are practicing social distancing & cough etiquette to assist in limiting transmission. As I type this I am hearing that covering coughs is paramount to covering the spread of this virus. Mr Prime Minister & Co, I direct this to you. How on earth do we as Early Childhood Educators in Centres & Family Day Care settings keep not only the children in our care but ourselves & our own families safe? Please dont tell us that you understand it is difficult, but possible. Lets be real for just a second, please. We are working with large groups of babies & children in close contact, all under the age of 5 years. We have no way of knowing if any precautions have been taken to keep these kids healthy & safe for a start while not on in our care. We have no clue who they have been in contact with or where they have been. We frankly cant even trust that they are being sent to us, free of Panadol to aid or mask fevers before being put into our care by desperate parents, needing to go to work. With these factors in mind, add to that, that 1 yr olds will not stay still, will not stay away from others, will not refrain from putting everything in their mouth at any given moment, they will get up very close & personal to all the other children, they will not & can not be expected to cover random or continual coughs & sneezes, they do drool on everything indiscriminately & they do want & need care, love, touch & cuddles from us; their Educators; Your Child Care Workforce. All in all we are the pinnacle of potential germ factories even with our very best efforts in place I have heard plenty Mr PM, about adults opting to work from home should they be able to. I have heard the rhetoric that schools & child care will remain open in order to keep essential workers working. I have heard plenty about teachers & school children keeping safe & all the implementations for schools to foster in order for this to happen. What I havent heard Mr PM, is how on earth we are expected to keep these groups of very young children safe & ourselves & our own families that we go home to each night! I also havent heard one ounce of concern for our welfare as ECEs, your Childcare Workforce. How can we keep ourselves safe Mr PM as we sit with children on our laps reading a book, giving a much needed cuddle or even just speaking with a 3 year old for example & then out of nowhere we get a face full of cough? How do we manage that, seriously? We really cant ware a mask to protect ourselves in this setting, so what do we do? Suck it up? In a global health crisis, where everyone is being told to take extra precautions to stay safe, for us, its business as normal. For most of us, keeping our environments healthy & bug free is our normal practice. We work with the only age group in the world that has no care whatsoever about covering a cough or sneeze & not spreading germs because shocker, theyre babies! These babies & toddlers however need to be in care though so that the Essential Services, can continue to work & so that our elderly are kept safe. How do we stay safe? Many of us a feeling like the dispensable & forgotten workforce With this in mind, casual workers in centres are being laid off in droves. Family Day Care Educators are in an even worse situation! If we decide to close as a precaution-we get nothing. If get shut down, we are able to apply for a grant through our schemes that we may or may not get & we have no information about what this grant might provide us with, if anything at all! If we get sick ourselves or our household family, we must close immediately & we receive nothing! The nature of our business means we have larger homes which means substantial rent or mortgage & we have larger vehicles than average for carrying large numbers of children. These are huge financial burdens that many FDC Eds carry on top of other business expenses that wont stop & we have no idea if we will be able to pay these as there is no information, with real tangible numbers of how much if anything we will be able to get access to. Mr Prime Minister, I have been listening so much about safe gaurding peoples health & income. I have heard talk of mechanics, hairdressers, shop keepers ect being eligible for monetary assistance. I hear you when you say we need to keep are heads & remain calm. I hear you say that schools & childcare must stay open & I understand the reasoning & agree with the reasoning. Please understand though, everyday we all go to work or accept our Family Day Care babies into our family homes, please, please be aware that we are putting ourselves in immediate danger of contracting this virus & passing it onto our own families. Add to that, especially for FDC the uncertainty of our income, being that we are self-employed, & for most of us, not employing other employees, it seems that we miss out on a lot of the income safety nets & what we do have seems to be very sketchy. Unlike most other workforces Mr Prime Minister, -Early Childhood Educators dont wear masks to protection themselves like medical staff, as it will frighten the little ones we care for. The children are our priority, even over ourselvesimagine the hearts of people like that! -We cant safeguard ourselves by practicing social distancing regulations & please dont tell us that it may be difficult but is possible, its not! -Most Childcare centres are unable to get hand sanitiser & Family Day Care Educators definitely cant. -We also dont have the luxury of opting to isolate & work from home. Its definitely hands on for us. Early Childhood Educators around the country are also trying to do the impossible right now & are also risking our own health to do so. We may not be Medical Services or Emergency Services but we are a very important part of what makes those services possible. Please dont forget about us! Please dont make us, your dispensable workforce. Our health does matter too & we also deserve some financial security.

11.01.2022 A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does love mean?' The answers they got were broader, deeper, and more profound than anyone could have ever imagined! 'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore... So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.' Rebecca - age 8... 'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy - age 4 'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.' Karl - age 5 'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.' Chrissy - age 6 'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.' Terri - age 4 'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.' Danny - age 8 'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and just listen.' Bobby - age 7 (Wow!) 'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.' Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) 'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.' Noelle - age 7 'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.' Tommy - age 6 'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.' Cindy - age 8 'My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.' Clare - age 6 'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.' Elaine - age 5 'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.' Chris - age 7 'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.' Mary Ann - age 4 'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.' Lauren - age 4 'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image!) Karen - age 7 'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross...' Mark - age 6 'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.' Jessica - age 8 And the final one: The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry.'

08.01.2022 Admin Approved DONT JUST UNENROL YOUR CHILDREN FROM THEIR EARLY EDUCATION AND CARE CENTRES PLEASE !!!! There is so much uncertainty in the world at the moment a...nd so many people are losing their jobs, please dont add your childs educators to that list. I am NOT saying you should send them if you dont feel comfortable. What I am saying is DONT UNENROL THEM. Talk to your centre first. There are a number of things in place from the government to help families and to stop centres from going bankrupt but these measures are only helpful if the children STAY ENROLLED. Firstly, if you or your partner has lost their job or had your wages cut, you can go on to your mygov page and apply for temporary financial hardship. This means that the government will pay your childcare fees in FULL for 13 weeks. The government has also committed to paying the CCS portion of the fees in the event that the centres do go in to lock down. What this means for centres is that we can keep paying our educators, our rent, etc etc etc. It means that at the end of all of this, there will be centres to send your children to. I implore you, please speak to your centre director and Family Day Care Educator. Find out your options, BEFORE just pulling your children out. It will make the world of difference to our sector. To all my friends, can you please share this as much as possible

06.01.2022 Our 1st Capsicum grown in our Day Care Garden! Its coming along nicely. Its such a wonderful feeling to grow foods yourself. Weve grown strawberries, tomatoes, carrots and potatoes in our garden a few years ago then due to not having sturdy garden beds, over time we stopped with the intention of building bigger and stronger ones. We now currently have snow peas, capsicums, strawberries, mixed lettuce, coriander and chives! ... The snow peas and lettuce have been picked many times and eaten by day care children during care plus we picked and made up 9 bags of lettuce and 4 large portions of coriander for our families so far! Our strawberries are starting to ripen and so far 8 capsicums are growing (the pic is showing the biggest so far) We also have gardens in our back yard (seperate to the everyday day care space) that has tomatoes, onions, shallots, many herbs, strawberries, rocket, string beans, carrots and a few aloe varieties #growingourownfood #lifeskills #providingforourcommunity #satisfaction #tastebetter #zeropesticides #sustainableliving #plantlifecycles #gardening #gardeningwithkids #kidsathomefdc #littlecubsfdc #littlecubsclubfamilydaycare #familydaycarepacificpines #familydaycareaustralia
