19.01.2022 After our last series of tests, we wanted to look deeper into the dangers of covering prams incorrectly, and stopping air circulation/increasing temperature. Pl...ease share with family and friends who have little ones. Many parents innocently do this, not realising that it is potentially harmful - especially as the weather heats up. #pramsafety #pramcovering #PRAM #spreadtheword

19.01.2022 "I did a lot of prep for the postpartum period and knew I'd have to manage my anxiety but as everyone tells you, you can't prepare for the effects of sleep deprivation."

12.01.2022 #Repost @alexandrasacksmd @joolsannie | Some of us with anxiety, depression, and other conditions keep a poker face around doctors, either because were... embarassed of the symptoms they are experiencing or they are worried about being shamed. Some providers unknowingly discourage their patients from expressing the true extent of their suffering. This can happen with jokes like You look better six weeks postpartum than I do six years later! or the wrong type of clinical minimizing: Trust me, youll be fine after a glass of wine and a good nights sleep. If you are suffering from or concerned that you may have Postpartum Depression (PPD, now called Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders- PMADs) try to be as direct as possible in describing how you feel. If youre worried that you might have a PMAD, simply tell your provider in a straightforward way, just like you would say, My knee hurts, can you tell me whats going on? You can say, Im not feeling well emotionally, I need you to help me figure how to feel better. If you find doctors offices intimidating, write your question down on a piece of paper or as a note on your phone so you can reference it in the exam room, or bring your partner or a friend to the appointment. Thankfully, practitioners are becoming more educated about PMADs; hopefully, yours will ask during your postpartum visit how you are feeling emotionally. But if it doesnt come up for any reason, or if you begin to feel unwell before or after that appointment, know that you can call any doctor you trust to discuss. If you cant find someone locally, contact Postpartum Support International (@postpartumhelp) an organization that has a help hotline and connects women to mental health providers all over the world." #matrescence #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodunfiltered #mom #moms #mother #mothers #momma #mommas #matrescencia #matreschka #matrescense #mommy #motherhood #realmotherhood #lifeasamama #mommystatus #motherhoodjourney #mommymode #motherhoodrising #thatmomlife #mymotherhood #motherhoodsessions See more

08.01.2022 Seriously Yesterday my work day started at 10pm once the kids were in bed, dinner cleared, lunches packed and washing folded- writing sleep plans for a sleep deprived family til 2am. Then this morning it was the chaos of getting the tearful toddler to daycare, the nervous first grader to her first day of school, before heading to a consult with a gorgeous mumma and bubba at Bondi. Leaving there in just enough time to collect my first grader from school, toddler from daycare and race to dance lessons - which actually start next week by the way Then home for the dinner/bath/bed chaos and hours of answering emails and messages #infantsleepconsultant #toddler #baby #firstdayofschool #busymum #lovemyjob #imexhausted #whyamistillawakerightnow

07.01.2022 Such an important article. So many times I see vulnerable mums reaching out for help only to be told to have more patience, to put baby first to lower their expectations, to suck it up and just cosleep, and that it shall pass eventually The courage that it takes to speak up should be met with an open mind, love and compassion. Lets all be kind to one another

05.01.2022 I highly recommend this drop in space if youre free on Wednesday. Pop in for a hot drink, a massage and a chat with a Mothercraft nurse - what could be better

04.01.2022 Had to share this

04.01.2022 Me today Anyone relate?

03.01.2022 I cringe when I remember when my sister gave birth, and I was at her house cuddling the baby thinking I was being helpful...while waiting for her to make me di...nner. I never made her a cup of tea. Or ran her a bath. Or told her it was going to be ok. Id bring a teddy bear and think Id done my bit. When it was my turn, I literally had NO idea how to nurture and honour myself after the birth. I remember how I thought recovery was getting out there walking to coffee shops, and doing yoga on the beach...four days after giving birth. Proving to the world I had healed. Like I had something to prove. It has taken FOUR babies for me to finally realise how absolutely vital it is to nurture a newborn mother for those first 40 days after birth. How SHE needs to be the focus, more so even than the baby. She needs warm foods and herbs and REST. How our western society has stolen this sacred time away from women because we think being back out with a hot #postbabybod is some kind of #goalz. Because on top of everything else, women should be expected to push out a baby and look fine five minutes later. We are not fine. We should not be expected to be fine. We are still bleeding. Our organs are still trying to find their way back home. Our babies need us to be focussed on them entirely so we can regulate our hormones. And we need a lot of support from friends and family to do that. Because if, like most of the women in the western world these days, we miss this vital window of bonding and healing and nurturing, it can have long lasting [like, YEARS.] of physical and mental health effects on the mother. I wish someone had told me how to care for my sister better. What food to bring her. What tea she needed. How to massage her. So if there is one thing Id say to a mother of a newborn- Stay in bed with your baby. You have nothing to prove. You are a fucking badass for sitting in your pjs, bonding with your newborn and accepting help. And if anyone thinks youre being dramatic or indulgent. Throw this book at their head.
