19.01.2022 Mirror Play - Playing with a mirror supports your childs healthy development and learning. It helps develop their visual senses. You can also use a mirror during tummy time to keep your baby entertained and give them more time to develop their muscles and physical abilities. Playing with a mirror can help them develop language skills. Even before they can use words, you can point out parts of their face and have back-and-forth conversations. Any opportunity for Smart Talk is great for your little one!

17.01.2022 - Always Was, Always Will Be. For NAIDOC week, Little Ducks children participated in many activities acknowledging and celebrating Indigenous Australians. Our Kindy and Junior Kindy children had a very special visitor, Miss Toni, who previously worked at the service and is a member of the Aboriginal community. Toni read dreamtime stories, played games and lead the children in an art experiences, explaining and showing the children why these are all so importan...t to the Indigenous community. Nursery children explored the Aboriginal flag and it's colours, the meaning behind each, as well as the Torres Straight Islander flag. The children also enjoyed dreamtime stories and listening to children's songs, sung in various Indigenous languages. The Toddler children also enjoyed the music, learning the actions and words to Taba Naba- a traditional song in Meriam Mir, a language of the Torres Strait Islanders. The children also baked Bush Tomato (akudjura) scones, coming together to create a delicious afternoon tea (recipe below). https://www.sbs.com.au//recipes/bush-tomato-akudjura-scones #NAIDOCWeek2020 #NAIDOC #NAIDOCweek #earlylearning #childcare #earlylearningcentre #brisbane #newfarm #newfarmchildcare #brisbanechildcare

10.01.2022 Leading into Summer, our children have been learning about the importance of sun safety, through our dedicated wellbeing program. Kindy and Junior Kindy have learnt what the UV chart is, what the different levels are and mean. They have explored what being sun safe means, what clothes are necessary and how they protect us. Toddler children had a discussion, prompted by the question "how can we be sun safe?" The children responded with 'wearing sunscreen', 'wea...ring a hat', 'wearing sunglasses'. Toddler educators expanded on this, talking about playing in the shade and sun smart clothing. Our Nursery children have also been looking at sun-smart clothing and practices, practicing wearing their hats and helping to put their own sunscreen on with educators support. #sunsmart #sunsafe #newfarmchildcare #brisbanechildcare

02.01.2022 Mealtimes provide an opportunity for children to develop good eating behaviors, as well as learn about nutrition and food variety. They are also an important time for social interaction. It is important to sit with children at meal and snack times, and talk with them in a relaxed way.

02.01.2022 Thank you to all our passionate committed and dedicated Early Childhood Educators, your work is seen everyday in not only the confident happy children whose faces light up each day as they walk through the door, but also in the learning opportunities you foster as we see the children develop into confident and involved learners . 02.01.2022 Who loves Play School?

01.01.2022 Sand play gives children opportunities to develop; fine motor skills - necessary for using shovels, building castles etc; by burying themselves in the sand, and feeling their bodies position within the sand, children engage their proprioceptive sense, or the sense of their body in space; making marks in the sand offers a chance to develop pre literacy and language skills. So many opportunities ! At Little Ducks Childcare New Farm we are lucky enough to have sand play opportunities in every learning environment !
