18.01.2022 If you have a young child at home, you’ll know this one is for you! Feel like the whining is non stop? Keep on reading and we’ll set you up with strategies to wind down the whining ? This is a really important concept for children to learn. It makes them stop and think about their tone and use of language. A great strategy I recently used was using a whining voice and regular voice... during play. Showing my child what each voice sounded like meant it was easy for him to recognise what a regular talking voice meant. It also now means when I ask him to use his regular voice he can. Playing vocal games with your child and trying different tones and volumes also helps children use and recognise language. Get silly and make a game out of it; children learn best through play. : Explaining... It’s easier for me to understand what you’re saying when you use your regular talking voice. Asking... You know so many words, can you tell me in a different way? Helping... I can see you’re feeling frustrated, can you say please help me & Did you know that whining is a low grade form of crying? Children whine to express their wants and needs. It usually happens when children are tired, hungry, sick, feel like they’re not getting enough attention, or have been told no. Remember to stay calm, use an encouraging voice and celebrate that our children are actually trying to express themselves through language Try the strategies above at home this weekend and happy Friday
