19.01.2022 Scribbling! It’s not just nonsense. In fact, it is SO important to embrace scribbling and recognize it as art and creativity! ... Things caregivers can say: I see you moving your hand in a circle. You are moving you hand so fast in a circle I see you lifting you hand up and down! That makes dots! You are holding a crayon. Don’t stifle the scribble. Embrace it as the most important beginning to a wonderful relationship with literacy and creativity! See more

08.01.2022 We collected more bark for the activity I originally had in mind. I set out strips of eucalyptus bark with some light ‘spring’ paint colours. I love setting u...p painting on different surfaces, it’s such a great way to explore shape, the properties of both the paint and the surface were painting on. Things I said to extent thinking; ‘Does the paint look different on different parts of the bark?’ ‘Hmm, the bark feels different to paper when I am painting on it’ I took the time to notice how Barefoot boy (2) painted, he used lots of dots and smaller strokes of the paintbrush. On paper he tends to make big round shapes, it made me think about how the shape of the bark could be dictating his movements. We ended up with a lovely colourful collection of painted bark that I will use in play later on. Have you tried painting on different surfaces? Do you notice your child painting differently on different materials? . . . . .
